SEATAC, Washington — Two planes have been evacuated on arrival at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport due to what a spokesman called a "security concern." Airport spokesman Perry Cooper says a JetBlue flight from Long Beach, California, and a regional SkyWest jet from Phoenix were the planes involved. The flights arrived late Sunday afternoon. Cooper said that out of an abundance of caution, passengers were bused to their gates from the airport's third runway. He said the matter was under investigation and he did not have further details. The evacuations come a day after bomb threats targeted two jets bound for Atlanta,...

After 38 years in the Washington National Guard, 1st Sgt. Brett Jensen received something new for a change. The citizen soldier belongs to an aviation battalion that’s receiving brand-new helicopters for the first time in five decades. It means the local unit will be able to retire aircraft dating to the Vietnam War era. “It’s kind of nice being able to see new aircraft in the fleet,” said Jensen, 56, a Tacoma resident who has deployed twice to the Middle East and participated in domestic missions ranging from the Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980 to the more recent disaster...

'We've engineered the biographical questionnaire in a way that we think will promote diversity.'" The initial hurdle for all applicants was based solely on a new, online biographical questionnaire that gave test takers instant results. "It didn't ask me anything about my college experience, my grades, my scores, (and) my ability for the actual job. It asked me what sports I played in high school. What was my least favorite subject in high school. Nothing related to aviation," remembered Meryhew

He was traveling — but she was on a jealousy trip. A whacked-out New Jersey woman sent police rushing to Newark Airport yesterday after falsely accusing her husband of plotting to blow up a plane, authorities said. Eunice Ukaegbu, 50, called cops about her hubby, Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, because she didn’t want him to leave the country without her, authorities said. The couple had just gotten into a nasty fight. “It looks like that marriage went up in flames,” a law-enforcement official quipped.

MIAMI — Two brothers have been arrested after being accused of striking a pilot and a flight attendant onboard an American Airlines plane grounded at Miami International Airport. Luis and Jonathan Baez were waiting for their flight to depart to San Francisco when a flight attendant noticed Jonathan didn't have his seatbelt buckled during the taxi on the runway. She attempted to have him fasten it, but he was unresponsive and appeared intoxicated or on narcotics, according to the arrest report.

It's the fear of many air travelers: Step into full-body scanning machines and Transportation Security Administration officers might get an eyeful of their private parts. That is apparently what has been happening on a regular basis — at least during TSA training sessions — and earlier this week it led one Miami International Airport transportation security officer to allegedly attack a co-worker with a baton. The co-worker had been making fun of the size of the officer's genitals, according to Miami-Dade police.

Unlike Julius Caesar, the JSF program will survive March. However, it may suffer a couple more wounds to go with those received earlier this year. The Pentagon’s Selected Acquisition Reports (SARs) will be released and are likely to show a critical breach of Nunn-McCurdy cost-escalation limits, leading to a mandatory program review. Also, the Government Accountability Office is due to issue another report on the program. Given the program leaders’ cavalier dismissal of GAO’s earlier warnings, it is likely to be harsh and seasoned with “we told you so.” Before or around that time, another schedule slippage is almost certain....

A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-16 flashed by.The jet jockey decided to show off.The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch this!' and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that? The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but watch this!' The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 Pilot came back on and said: 'What did you think of that?'Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, 'What...

The department said the arrest of 72-year-old Dongfan "Greg" Chung, of Orange, Calif. follows his indictment on eight counts of economic espionage and acting as an unregistered foreign agent for China.
  • New chill between U.S., Russia freezes Boeing out of jet order

Boeing has lost a huge potential order from Russian state-owned airline Aeroflot for 22 787 Dreamliners, company sources said. The deal was all but sealed last June, requiring only the approval of the Russian government. Worth $3.2 billion at list prices, it would have been about $2.2 billion with standard discounts as estimated by aircraft-valuation firm Avitas. But steadily worsening political relations between the U.S. and Russia have killed it and given Airbus a big, though still-unannounced, win for its A350 rival to the 787. In an August interview, Sergei Koltovich, Aeroflot's head of fleet planning, said "both Boeing and...

This Christmas, it wasn't just chestnuts that got roasted on an open fire. Denver's "all-weather" airport, the one that was built to unclog the Western skies, the one that was going to be the glorious technological beacon for all future airports, got roasted big-time in the national media. Justifiably. Denver International got cooked on something called "the truth." For almost two days before Christmas, the airport was shut down due to snow. At most times of the year, and at most other airports, this would have been not much more than a page three human interest story, with interviews of...
