The 2-year-old hound was one of four animals slated to be put down by the Liberty County Animal Shelter last week. But she cheated death -- surviving a chamber filled with carbon dioxide for 30 minutes. Deborah Palpal-Latoc made the discovery when the door opened: "The dog above it... its body fluids were dripping over it. She was foaming at the mouth and scared. We pulled her out of the chamber." Palpal-Latoc -- who works at the Humane Shelter next door to the county's shelter, rushed the dog to the vets. Amazed workers named her Amazing Grace.

My sports-loving husband and kids know I'm no baseball fan. But I finally realized that if I don't drum up at least a mild interest in the Red Sox, my relationship with my 9-year-old son, Simon, is bound to suffer.Snip.We arrived at the stadium early and maneuvered our way toward the field. I expected someone to check our tickets and shoo us to our seats, but nobody did. We joined a few other diehard Sox fans alongside the dugout and watched in awe as Terry Francona, Jason Varitek, Coco Crisp, and Mark Loretta filed out onto the field. We got...

We lost our beloved Beagle back in September from cancer, The wife and I had felt enough time had passed to get another dog and she felt the way to go was to adopt one from a shelter. I'm more inclined to go to a breeder, starting with a clean slate rather than starting out with possible damaged goods. (Who needs to deal with that with children in the house) I agreed and here is the following exchange between my wife and the following rescue service. Okay, we all have tips for saving money. Some are obvious like cutting coupons, buying in bulk, swapping the price stickers on packages of steaks (Just kidding!) Post you novel ways of saving money. I'll start it outMy wife insists on exchanging cards on our birthdays, Valentine's Day etc. When the event is near we'll stop at a store, pick out some cards and exchange them right there! We then return them to the rack and leave. Another favorite of mine is I head down to the store on a Saturday or Sunday morning when I know their marking down...

The pathetic program known as Countdown With Keith Olberman just aired a segment with some putz by the name of Craig Crawford, the exchange went something like this Keith:Why does the president only speak in front of military audiences whenever he speaks about the war? Crawford: (Verbatim) It's always easy to appear in front of people who can be court marshaled if they don't applaud.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A Washington psychiatrist believes there is a link between exposure to cats in childhood and schizophrenia. Dr. Fuller Torrey says that he has noticed that schizophrenics were more likely to have had cats when they were very young or mothers who had cats while pregnant. Torrey told the New York Daily News that his wife thinks he is going to be killed by cat lovers. But he still believes that there is a link between early exposure to Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite found in cats, and schizophrenia. "Not only cats, but virtually all animals carry...

My Father and a friend went to a Redsox Yankee game at Fenway park, as they were leaving the park my dad's friend Jack pointed at a man passed out in one of the seats "Oh my god that's my next door neighbor." "Your kidding" We have to take him home." "You don't even know how he got here" Must have been a bus trip." They proceeded to carry him to the car and drove from Boston back to Connecticut, Jack's neighbor never made a peep. Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine: Report Reaction CBS News Anchor Dan Rather (search) says he has read yesterday's report on CBS' now-discredited Bush National Guard story and "My strongest reaction is one of sadness and concern for those [four] individuals" who lost their jobs. As topics swirl across the Internet, our language changes Dan Rather went monkeyfishing for a story to make President Bush look bad. But he ended up jumping the shark so badly that the pajamahadeen forced him to resign as CBS Evening News anchor a full year ahead of schedule. Oh, you may not have heard about "monkeyfishing"? And what the heck do "jumping the shark" and "pajamahadeen" mean? If you spend time on the Internet, you've probably learned these new words. But for those who haven't, their meanings and origins are fun.

U.S. Soldier Ended Up in Soviet Army Joseph Beyrle recalling his trip from Michigan to France, Germany and finally Moscow. Of the million World War II veterans who will celebrate Victory Day on Sunday, few, if any, can say that they fought for both the U.S. and Soviet armies. Joseph Beyrle is an exception. Beyrle, the 80-year-old father of John Beyrle, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy, will be on hand Sunday for the Victory Day parade on Red Square, a stone's throw from the monument to a man who helped bring him back to life -- legendary...

Bronx Brushoff Calhoun Heads Back To FenwayThe additional visibility from setting foot on the biggest stage in sports could only help Jim Calhoun's efforts to recruit players from New York City. That didn't matter to the UConn men's basketball coach. The Yankees wanted Calhoun to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming game. But as a lifelong Red Sox fan who grew up in Braintree, Mass., the coach of the national champions didn't want anything to do with the Evil Empire.
