There are no nonpartisan state polls today for anything. PPP (D) released a poll of Ohio showing it tied at 45% each. Ohio is no doubt going to be a huge battleground again. In Gallup's national tracking poll, Obama and McCain are tied at 45% each. In Rassmusen's tracking poll, Obama is barely ahead, 47% to 45%.A quirk of the schedule this year may benefit the Republicans. Normally each candidate gets a bounce in the polls after his convention. However, the Democratic convention is followed immediately by John McCain's birthday, which will put him back in the spotlight and then...

Democrats Lead by Eight on Generic Ballot Tuesday, August 12, 2008 The Republicans have tightened the gap somewhat in the Generic Congressional Ballot. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that, if given the choice, 45% of voters would choose their district’s Democratic candidate, while 37% would choose the Republican candidate. Support for the Democrats is down just two points from last week, but support for the GOP is up three points from last week.

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The reason so many pundits approved when Barack Obama’s campaign floated the idea of picking pure-vanilla Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana for a running mate this week is that it addressed the biggest concern among Obama supporters in and out of the media corps — that he can’t connect with lunch-pail Democrats in the Midwest. In June, when Obama’s hopes were more audacious, his team was talking about a “new electoral map” in which western and southern states came into play for the Democrat. As they’d say in Biloxi, t’ain’t gonna happen. It was an understandable...

McCain's Lead Among Evangelicals Smaller than Bush's in '04 Religiously Unaffiliated Voters Strongly Favor Democratic Candidate July 17, 2008 Republican presidential candidate John McCain has a smaller lead among white evangelical Protestants than Republican George W. Bush had at a similar point in the 2004 campaign, even though Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has made few inroads into this key constituency. Those who are unaffiliated with a particular religion, on the other hand, are just as supportive of the Democratic candidate as they were at this point in the 2004 campaign and are substantially more supportive of Obama than they...
  • Northup: Time for Rumsfeld to Go (R-Ky)

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld must go. That's the startling declaration made by third district Congresswoman Anne Northup on Newsradio 84's Joe Elliot Show Tuesday night. It's a radical departure for the GOP incumbent from Louisville, since she has been a staunch backer of the Bush Administraton and it's policies, including the decision to go to war. Northup said while Rumsfeld has done a great job revamping the Pentagon, his handling of the war in Iraq has been shaky at best in recent weeks. She compared the embattled Defense Secretary to a coach with a losing strategy, saying it's time for...

The Indiana Democratic Party requested a recount in the 9th District U.S. House race lost by Rep. Baron Hill amid questions over whether optical-scan voting systems used by some counties recorded straight-party votes erroneously. The Indiana Recount Commission called an emergency meeting Friday afternoon to impound election materials in both that race and in the Indiana House District 9 race won by incumbent Rep. Scott Pelath, D-Michigan City. Hill, who lost to Republican challenger Mike Sodrel by 1,485 votes in the southern Indiana congressional district, filed for the recount after a recount Thursday in Franklin County showed about 600 straight-Democratic...

Tim Russert: There have been ten national polls in the past three weeks. They all show one thing – George W. Bush is ahead. Now, you talk to the campaigns privately, they’ll tell you they believe President Bush is ahead five to six points nationally and he’s pulling ahead in the battleground states. The momentum is with the president. There’s no doubt about it. John Kerry has a lot of work to do. MSNBC: There are only 45 days until Election Day. Is that enough time for John Kerry to make that turnaround? Russert: It’s uphill. But the presidential debate...

North Carolina Sen. John Edwards has given the Democratic ticket a boost in the “battle states” except West Virginia, a Zogby International poll shows. “We don’t see [presumed Democratic presidential nominee] John Kerry making any tremendous gains [in West Virginia] now that he’s taken on John Edwards,” said Shawnta Watson Walcott, with Zogby. The latest Zogby polling, completed July 12, shows President Bush leading the Massachusetts senator in West Virginia with 50.6 percent of the vote, compared with 43.9 percent for Kerry. Polling done June 22 had shown Bush with 49 percent and Kerry with 44.2.

June 9, 2004--Based upon our most recent wave of state polling data, Rasmussen Reports projects that if the Presidential Election were held today, Senator John Kerry would win 227 Electoral Votes, President George W. Bush would win 177 Electoral Votes, and 134 Electoral Votes would be in the toss-up category. At Rasmussen Reports, we consider any state where polls show a candidate leading by less than five percentage points to be a toss-up. Feel free to review our state-by-state listing and share your comments. The bottom line is that, no surprise here, the race itself is currently too close to...

Several parents who agreed to let their children be interviewed for an ABC News special on the environment now want them out of it because they didn't like correspondent John Stossel's questioning. They made their wishes known Monday, more than two months after the interviews took place and four days before the special, "Tampering with Nature," is scheduled to air. ABC promised to look into their complaints. It's the second dispute in a year involving Stossel, a libertarian who has rankled environmental and consumer groups with his views. Stossel had to apologize last August for a misleading report on organic ...
