  • The Voters Who Stayed Home (The Key to Understanding the Results of the 2012 Elections)

    11/10/2012 11:09:43 AM PST · 235 of 335
    DancingMyRainbow to SeekAndFind

Fox put out 2 polls this morning, and if I could figure out how to find anything on their site I would post them. The gist was what voters thought republicans cared about more.

The first was a list of issues. The rich and big business had over 50%. Taxpayers and middle class took less than 25%. The poor only got 3%. There were a couple more issues included but I can’t remember what they were. These were the numbers that really stood out for me.

The second poll was basically the same, but focused on not cutting taxes and cutting spending. They got 65% and 35% respectively.

Apparently, republicans and conservatives have a huge problem. Romney did talk a lot about not raising taxes on the rich. He talked very little about what he would do to help the poor. And although he did talk about the middle class, his message wasn’t clear enough. And his talk on cutting spending was boiled down to firing Big Bird.

Second. The right’s message was so distored and filtered through the media that voters had no clear picture of what Romney stood for, and the message they did get was not good. Unless the right can get ahold of the media, this is going to continue and we’ll never win another election. It’s not good enough to nominate strictly conservative candidates if their message doesn’t get out or gets distorted.

Really sorry I couldn’t post exact numbers.

    >>I’m pretty sure the Cairo embassy didn’t send out an apology until after the embassy was attacked.<<

    Thanks

I could have sworn that commentators and even someone from the WH said they put out the statement to protect the embassy from “being” attacked. I could be wrong, there’s been so much chatter.

Thanks, trying to get all the facts I can before my liberal step-father calls to harrangue me again. :)

Can someone please help me? I’ve been watching the news non-stop since the mid-east blew up and I don’t remember if anyone address this ...

Do we know WHY the Cairo embassy sent out the apology statement in the first place? I mean, did they get a note saying protesters were headed their way and they’re mad about a video?

I haven’t seen an answer to this anywhere, can someone help direct me if there is please? thanks

I must be tired. Why is everyone going after Terry Jones if all he did was promote the film? And why him and not Morris Sadek?

So you could almost say obama shot us in the foot. As long as osama was alive, al quaeda was being run by a sick old man, forced to change his hiding places frequently. Not conductive to planning big terrorists attacks. But now with him dead, al quaeda has a new, younger leader who can stand the strain and a bunch of pissed off followers out for our blood for killing their leader.

It’s too late, it doesn’t matter what he says now. The world will always remember the first thing said out of this administration ... and that was an apology.

It won’t matter how many times he retracts it or how forceful he gets. All the world cares about is that this adminitration apologized! for our freedom of speech.

Did Saturn follow the practice of farming out their componets? I have a 2006 Vue that I absolutely love. We take it in for it’s scheduled oil changes and that’s it. Never had a problem with it. It’s got 28,000 miles, but only because my hubby had to get rid of his brand new truck when he lost his job last year.

I’ve been stocking up for 6 months now ... time to get some more. Primatene’s the only thing I can use. I’m allergic to albuterol. But the enviromentalists don’t seem to want to take into account that albuterol isn’t the first choice for everyone.

I really wonder how concerned they would be about the ozone layer when they’re siezed by an asthma attack that won’t go away with the “accepted” methods of treatment, when their throat and back are on fire from trying to drag a tiny amount of air into their lungs and the even worse pain of trying to expell it. I bet they’d be grabbing for a bottle of Primatene without a thought or care for the enviroment, anything to just make it stop.

Some blacks have to have racism. If there is no racism then they have no one to blame but themselves if they fail. It’s a pity, because most blacks are decent, hard-working people. They probably can’t even imagine that there are people out there who are so malignant that they are deliberately sabotaging blacks efforts to succeed.

So the people voted and gays don’t like the result, so they want the people to vote again. (presumably to vote the way the gays want them to vote.)

So can we try this? Have a do-over on the general election until the voters vote our way?

You can hope for it, but I doubt it will happen. Maybe if 0bama had been a different kind of candidate, maybe if he had won on his socialist merit alone. But he used race throughout the campaign and convinced blacks that if even one person in the United States did not vote for him, the country was still racist.

Blacks wanted not only democrats, but republicans too, to vote for 0bama. Never mind that our ideologies are 180 degrees apart. Never mind that I still cannot find one black who even knew what 0bama’s policies were. Republicans were supposed to vote for him too, and because we didn’t, we’re racist.

Has anyone done a comparison as to how the foreclosures shake out, red state to blue state? Because to be honest, I’m not seeing any of this where I live. I have friends in just about every economic level and they’re all doing fine, some struggling a bit but nothing close to forclosure. I haven’t heard of friends of friends of friends being in forclosure.

So I’m just wondering if forclosures are more prevalent in blue states as opposed to red states, or maybe I just don’t get out enough.

    >>>>Now besides Republicans, conservatives need still more votes, from independents and a few democrats. So it is supremely important to make conservatism highly attractive. And sell it.<<<<

We don’t need to find more voters, they’re already out there, they just don’t realize it. A great majority of this country lives a conservative lifestyle.

Selling it? Yeah, that’s a tough one. Maybe conservatives need to go to marketing firms and get ideas, because right now ours suck. Is it only coincidence that company’s are constantly advertising, constantly repackaging their products? We don’t need to repackage so much as let people know we have a product. And get them to try it. Constantly sniping at someone because they differ with us on one issue won’t get it done. Get them to buy us first, then work on opening their minds.

Oh, I don’t know. Whenever I go to Best Buy I have to look for a sales person. But they’re always nice and friendly. My husband laughs because the salespeople end up talking to me for a half hour or so and he has to drag me away.

I like to ask questions. :)

    >>>Ryan in leadership, Newt at the RNC & let’s get back into the business of ideas. Let’s leave McCain and the “me-too” Republicans in the dust. <<<

I know nothing of Ryan, but here’s a new idea. Stop pushing conservatism as an ideology. It’s not, hasn’t been since Reagan. It’s a lifestyle. I bet 75 per cent of this country lives a conservative life, they just don’t recognize it as such.

People hate being pigeonholed into one ideology, even the more moderate liberals. They like to think they’re tolerant. But people seem to love thinking they’re living a lifestyle.

    >>>The left owns the channels of communication. If the radical leftists called Bush a chimp, how much play did it get? Zero. If you call Obama a chimp, how much play do you think it will get? The entire conservative movement will be so marginalized as to produce an “open season” in the public eye.<<<

You’re right. It’s already happening, in the street, on the blogs, on the news. Anyone who questions 0bama is labeled a sore loser, nutty, extremist.

If conservatives ever want to be elected again, they/we are going to have to start with basics again. It’s no good to tell people that 0bama’s going to ruin the country because they won’t believe you; they don’t want to believe you.

I think maybe start reminding people, one at a time if need be, that for the most part, people live conservative lives. I plan to gently remind the liberals I know that they live the same as I do; work hard, pay taxes, spend time with their children. Contrasting 0bama’s policies with the way they live doesn’t work, because most democrats have their heads in the clouds on how they think the world should be.

But if we can contrast how they live and how it mirrors the way conservatives live, maybe they can make the connection on their own that conservatism isn’t the evil thing they’ve been told.
