SEATTLE — White Sox right-hander Philip Humber made sure to relish every moment commemorating Saturday's perfect game with his teammates. That included spending Saturday night at a sports bar with about a dozen teammates to watch a UFC fight (even though Humber isn't a fight fan) to taping a "Top 10" segment for Monday's showing of "The Late Show with David Letterman.". "You only get one chance to re-live it," Humber said Sunday morning. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and former Sox ace Mark Buehrle were among more than 100 people who sent congratulatory messages to Humber. As of late Sunday...

The Naperville nightclub squabble that ended with the fatal stabbing of a young teacher allegedly began when a well-regarded airport manager was ribbed for drinking his beer from a wineglass, authorities said.

Court records refer to him simply, as Victim One. Outside of a four-and-a-half page section about him in the grand jury indictment of ex-Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, little else has been discussed about him publicly. Last week, his mother (whom I will refer to as "Mother One") removed him from Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall, Pa., where he was a senior and an all-star athlete. In an interview conducted last week, she explained why she pulled him from the school. "They were not helpful," Mother One said of the school's administrators. "They wanted me to...

Following the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's successful hounding last season of the Japanese whaling fleet, there was an air of optimism that the country would finally abandon its controversial "scientific research." "[Sea Shepherd captain] Paul Watson has always said to us, 'I'm probably the only reality star that's trying to put himself out of the business in TV," Jason Carey, series executive producer for "Whale Wars" said, adding that if Japan ceases whaling, "then that's exactly what he would do. I don't think we'd have a series next year." s MNN reported last week, that optimism went out the door...

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s Operation Ferocious Isles pilot whale defense campaign is almost over and it looks like our objective has been achieved. Not a single whale or dolphin has been killed on the beaches or in the waters of the Faeroe Islands under our watch this July and August. Earlier in the summer, the Faeroese police ordered that no grinds (pilot whale drives and slaughter) would be allowed for as long as the Sea Shepherd ships were in Faeroese waters. Thus, our mere watchful presence prevented any killings this summer saving hundreds of whales as a result. Not a...

I am sending out a question to those living in Chicago or Suburban Chicago. My dad has Arab neighbors next door who has their address posted in Arabic (not numbers). Their son was kicked out of school for making a bomb threat. Yesterday, I picked up my father at 2:00 PM and there were 10 cars in their driveway and along the street which was insanely bizarre. My family has lived there since 1990 far earlier than when they moved in and we never seen anything like that. So I was suspicious and took a bunch of photos. Tonight, there...

Do you like a good UFO detective story? Well, here's one for you. And it's ongoing, so we don't yet know the ending. It involves President John F. Kennedy's interest in UFOs shortly before his death and an allegation that he may have angered officials in his administration when he asked for information on the subject. Recently, the FBI opened a new website, "The Vault," that lets you view a variety of documents, including those regarding UFOs. I looked into one document that appears to include a phony UFO story and mentioned how important it is to be extremely careful...

In an interview with NBC’s Jeff Rossen that aired on TODAY Monday morning, Charlie Sheen, the combative star of long-running hit “Two and a Half Men,” demanded a raise from approximately $2 million to $3 million per episode to come back to the set of the show. CBS and Warner Bros. Television have currently halted production for the show’s ninth season in the wake of Sheen’s very public rants against “Men” creator Chuck Lorre and Alcoholics Anonymous. “I’m not angry, I’m passionate,” Sheen told Rossen. “It’s everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back, and I’m just going...

VSO Day Victory in the Southern Ocean Day for the Whales Pilot Chris Aultman and crewmember Mark Cullivan in an emotional embrace. Photo: Barbara VeigaPilot Chris Aultman and crewmember Mark Cullivan in an emotional embrace. Photo: Barbara VeigaIt’s official – the Japanese whaling fleet has called it quits in the Southern Ocean, at least for this season. And if they return next season, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be ready to resume their efforts to obstruct and disable illegal Japanese whaling operations. “The Nisshin Maru made a significant course change immediately after the Japanese government made it official that the...

The Sea Shepherd scout vessel Gojira found the illegal Japanese whaling ship Sea Shepherd calls the Cetacean Death Star at 2115 NZST on February 9th. The Nisshin Maru was caught in the process of unlawfully flensing a whale on their aft deck at the position of 74 degrees 16 minutes south and 149 degrees 2 minutes west. The Gojira immediately gave chase as the Nisshin Maru attempted to escape by entering a field of ice. The Gojira attempted to block the huge factory ship to buy time for the Bob Barker to arrive from some 28 miles away. Captain Locky...

Riding a Storm in Pursuit of a Black-Hearted Sun It is Day Seventeen since finding the Japanese whaling fleet, and it is a wee bit uncomfortable today after the whaling fleet supply vessel Sun Laurel decided to lead us into a storm to try and shake the Bob Barker and the Steve Irwin off its tail. We are now over 300 miles north of the Antarctic Treaty Zone Boundary and the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary as the Sun Laurel wanders northward and eastward hoping to unload her cargo of heavy fuel for the Nisshin Maru and diesel fuel for the...

When Mark Kirk is sworn in this afternoon, the U.S. Senate will once again have no African-Americans. Since Reconstruction, there have only been four black senators. Three of them -- Carol Moseley Braun, Barack Obama and Roland Burris -- have held the seat that Kirk is about to occupy. For reasons that go back more than a century, all the way to the First Great Migration from the South, Illinois has led the nation in black political empowerment. We’ve elected more black statewide officials than anyone else. We produced the first black president. And it was a matter of pride...

JAPAN has attracted 27 countries to a summit of pro-whaling nations to be held next week. This comes as the Japanese whaling fleet prepares to leave port for its annual hunt in the Southern Ocean. The Japanese Fisheries Agency announced it would convene the summit after the collapse in June of international talks on a compromise plan to phase out the Antarctic whale hunt in return for a resumption of limited commercial whaling. The contentious Antarctic hunt - expected to again be the target of protests from the Sea Shepherd conservation group - is carried out under Japan's officially sanctioned...

U.S. Senate candidates Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk both say they want tougher enforcement of U.S. border security, but they disagree on what to do with immigrants who are already in the country illegally. Giannoulias wants to move forward with a broad plan to legalize illegal immigrants across the country. Kirk says any such reform attempt must wait while Congress focuses on ensuring the integrity of the U.S.- Mexico border.
