Abstract Objectives: While COVID-19 has a relatively small direct impact on infant mortality, the pandemic is expected to indirectly increase mortality of this vulnerable group in low-income and middle-income countries through its effects on the economy and health system performance. Design: We construct a sample of 5.2 million births by pooling retrospective birth histories reported by women in Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 83 low-income and middle-income countries between 1985 and 2018. We employ regression models with country-specific fixed-effects and flexible time trends to estimate the impact of gross domestic product per capita on infant mortality rate. We then...

With one day to go, Donald Trump extended his lead over Hillary Clinton, 43% to 41%, according to the latest IBD/TIPP presidential tracking poll. That comes after a third bombshell from FBI Director James Comey, who announced Sunday he would not indict Clinton for her email scandal. Trump's two-point lead now matches his largest so far during the 20 days of polling. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson gets 6% of the vote, Green Party candidate Jill Stein just 2%. In a two-way matchup that excludes the two third-party candidates, however, Clinton still holds a 43% to 42% lead over Trump, with...

Libertarian Party pick Gary Johnson is at 5% while the Green Party's Jill Stein is at 2%. The readings for all candidates are the same in the unrounded IBD/TIPP poll data. A day earlier, Clinton led by 0.5 point. In a head-to-head matchup excluding third-party candidates, Clinton is ahead by...

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A cliff-hanger presidential election, major issues at stake, an estimated $6 billion spent in the 2012 campaigns and an eight million person increase in the eligible voters all failed to sustain the upward momentum for turnout from 2004 and 2008. Voter turnout dipped from 62.3 percent of eligible citizens voting in 2008 to an estimated 57.5 in 2012. That figure was also below the 60.4 level of the 2004 election but higher than the 54.2 percent turnout in the 2000 election. Despite an increase of over eight million citizens in the eligible population, turnout declined from 131...

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson gets 5% in the poll, while Green Party standard-bearer Jill Stein remains stuck at 2%. From:brentbbi@webtv.net To: john.podesta@gmail.com, roy.spence@gsdm.com Date: 2015-09-13 21:25 Subject: Clintons go to church Gentlemen, when the Clintons suddenly emerge with a televised photo op at church when her poll numbers are down, and this is broadcast on television news alongside the latest that the Clinton emails may not have been wiped, it does not make television viewers regard HRC as a woman of faith at church, it makes her look like an insincere politician going to church when her poll numbers are down. And a new television ad about grandma will fare no better than the last television ad about mom....

Hillary Clinton's edge over Donald Trump remained at 1 point – 45% to 44% – in a four-way race as Friday's latest revelations in the email scandal continued to shake the Clinton campaign, according to the latest IBD/TIPP presidential tracking poll. This continues a three-day slide in the IBD/TIPP Poll for Clinton after FBI Director James Comey announced Friday that he's reinstating the bureau's investigation into Clinton's homebrew email server while she was secretary of state. In just three days, Clinton has largely lost a 4-point lead. But not to third party candidates. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson gets just 4%...

This is floating around the internet as one of those "pass-it-around" emails. Excuse the ALL CAPS, that's how it was sent. I THINK IT IS REMARKABLE THAT WITHIN A WEEK OF TIGER WOODS CRASHING HIS ESCALADE, THE PRESS FOUND EVERY WOMAN WITH WHOM TIGER HAS HAD AN AFFAIR IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, WITH PHOTOS, TEXT MESSAGES, RECORDED PHONE CALLS, E-Mails etc..... AND, THEY NOT ONLY KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE FIGHT, BUT THEY EVEN KNOW IT WAS A CLUB FROM HIS GOLF BAG THAT HIS WIFE USED TO BREAK OUT THE WINDOWS IN THE ESCALADE. NOT ONLY THAT, THEY...

Where does this presidential race stand? Unfortunately the plethora of public polls does more to confuse than to clarify. Contorting and distorting the data with absurd “likely voter” models only makes matters worse. Cutting through the clutter, a few facts are clear: • Averaging the recent polls together gives George W. Bush a one-point lead, 47 percent for Bush to 46 percent for John Kerry. • About 5 percent of the electorate remains undecided. • Almost every poll that has released battleground-state results shows Kerry ahead there. For instance, the ABC/Washington Post poll that had Kerry four points behind nationally...

When will the other websites decide to post this headline? November 3rd? Yesterday, the Halliburton story was posted on these same websites within minutes after AP broke the story.
