  • Weather Channel.com's sponsored ad: Obama's official 2012 website

    08/13/2011 7:32:18 PM PDT · by HGSW0904 · 44 replies · 1+ views
I wish I knew how to do a screen shot, but I'm technologically challenged. I went to check my local forecast on weatherchannel.com, and saw to the right in the sidebar a 'sponsored link' to Obama's 2012 official re-election site (complete with that annoying logo). I immediately sent them feedback (via the feedback link at the bottom of the page) informing them that if they're going to support Obama in 2012, and post his ads for him, I've made my last visit. If enough of us say so, they may drop it.
  • Poll to Freep: What do you think of gay marriage?

Here's a poll to Freep. A 'marriage equality' group on Facebook has been hard at work...let's outdo them. How do you feel about gay marriage? I'm opposed due to moral beliefs. 51 Votes ( 2% ) I'm opposed due to religious beliefs. 60 Votes ( 2% ) I just think it's wrong. 114 Votes ( 4% ) All of the above. 488 Votes ( 18% ) I'm "OK" with gay marriage. 2039 Votes ( 74% )

  • Vanity: ATF stopped transfer of gun -- store manager says no transfer between states due to new law?

    05/31/2011 4:10:58 PM PDT · by HGSW0904 · 48 replies
This is a vanity post, and I'm hoping I put it in the right place...if not, I'm sure y'all will redirect me. (I'm hoping any redirection is kind.) My husband ordered an R-25 from Dick's months ago (February) and has been playing phone tag with them since. They said they ordered it and that it was on its way. Today, he called again and spoke to the manager since he still hadn't heard anything. The manager said they couldn't transfer any gun from CO (that's where they had one in stock and we're in TN) because the ATF came in...
  • How to respond to 'we already have socialism and you participate in it'? (vanity)

    04/23/2010 5:59:33 AM PDT · by HGSW0904 · 48 replies · 964+ views
The common argument from the left in defense of O's policy and socialism in general is that our system is already chock full of socialism. Commonly, lefties reference the police and fire departments, public education, social security, and even insurance plans as evidence that those who espouse free-market ideology are hypocrites. What say you all?
  • Vanity: advice wanted from Freepers about valuing/selling German Luger/holster

    02/04/2010 5:40:38 PM PST · by HGSW0904 · 51 replies · 1,097+ views
My father's father served in WWII, and brought home with him a German Luger (with holster). My father wondered how he'd go about finding its value, and I told him I'd try to see if I could get some answers here. So...any ideas on where to take it or what to do to find the value? Or, suggestions on how to sell it? Thanks!
  • Looking for assistance on charitable donations for military families.

Hope this is the right spot for this. My husband and I would like to assist the families of fallen soldiers with our charity monies. However, there are several different charities, all claiming to provide money to widows/ers and children of fallen troops. I want to be sure that we send money to a viable charity who really does get as much of the money as possible where it needs to go. Do any of you have experience with any charity of this kind? I've been looking at Fallen Soldiers Fund (http://www.fallensoldiersfund.com), Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund (http://www.cfsrf.org) and Fallen...
