    CBS DFW ^ | October 5 2011
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The anti-Wall Street protests happening across the country are about to spread to North Texas. A group is planning a huge march and demonstration in downtown Dallas Thursday and they’re willing to go to jail to get their point across. The group called Occupy Dallas is an offshoot of a group staging a protest in New York City called Occupy Wall Street. Groups are demonstrating and protesting government bailouts of big Wall Street institutions, joblessness, global warming and the influence of corporate money in politics among a host of other issues.
  • Military Rules of Engagement question (vanity)

    My own question | 07/30/2011 | hushtx
I am trying to locate information regarding some bizarre rules of engagement that were discussed on the forums a few months ago. Specifically, there was a concern about military patrols being required to keep their safeties on or not being allowed to load their magazines until combat started, or something to that effect. Does anyone remember this? And can anyone help me track it down? I have already scoured the archives using the search for keywords such as "military patrol rules of engagement" "unarmed patrol military afghanistan" and other such combinations, but I haven't had much luck. Any assistance would...

I had a lot to say about the MoveOn.org sponsored rally in Dallas this past Saturday, but honestly there is nothing I can say that compares to just seeing the images and video for yourself. They billed it as "Restoring the American Dream." In reality it was "Advancing the Socialist Agenda." Don't believe me? See for yourself. Click on the images to enlarge them.  Listen closely to what this guy says. He wants to do away with the Republicans and the Democrats and bring to the fore a "Worker's Labor Party." That is socialism, through and through. The most...

MoveOn is staging a protest in Dallas on Saturday the 26th. I was going to post the "call to action" from their site, but when I tried I got a message that informed me that MoveOn material is not wanted. So instead I will just put the location information up and give the rest of the material to those who specifically request it. It can be found at the bottom of this post. I remember the gathering we pulled off at the Cindy Sheehan circus down in Crawford. Can we do that again? Or improve on it? We can put...
  • HUD to rental policy groups: Sign agreement, stay quiet

Obama administration officials told a group of housing proponents this month that they must sign a confidentiality agreement to continue participating in talks — a highly unusual request that has drawn criticism from a top Republican lawmaker who is investigating the matter. The agreement, obtained by POLITICO, bars participants from disclosing details discussed at meetings of a rental policy working group, but it has angered some lobbyists and drawn congressional scrutiny. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/49696.html#ixzz1EHAesWxY “How can they go around and pat themselves on the back as the most transparent administration in history and then turn around and ask lobbyists to...
  • US: NASA rocket to bear name of Egyptian woman killed in anti-govt protests

Cairo, 10 Feb. (AKI) - The United States space agency NASA has okayed the naming of one of its spaceships after a young Egyptian woman killed in late January during an anti-goverment protest, according to Egyptian daily Al-Masry-al-Youm. The paper quoted Essam Mohamed Haji, a young researcher at NASA as saying on Thursday he had received approval to put the young woman Sally Zahran's name on a spaceship heading for Mars. Zahran, a 23 English graduated and translator died after she was beaten about the head on 28 January with a truncheons during clashes with security forces in in the...

The world has been watching Egypt for over a week, waiting with baited breath to see what the outcome of the Day of Rage would be. As Americans, a people so sentimentally attached to the idea of liberty, it is easy for us to get caught up in what appears to be the struggle of an oppressed people. Perhaps a little too easy. We cannot let our heartstrings pull us away from our own struggle. While the developments in Egypt and the rest of the Middle East will have lasting consequences for us all, there is really very little...

There's another infamous shooting of a nine-year-old girl that is making headlines this week in Tucson. This time, we wonder if the rest of the media will bother to cover it. Brisenia Flores_0df9d.jpg The little girl's name was Brisenia Flores. She lived near the border with her parents and sister outside the town of Arivaca, Arizona. On May 30 of 2009, a woman named Shawna Forde, who led an offshoot unit of Minutemen who ran armed border patrols for patriotic "fun". Forde's gang had decided to go "operational," which meant they concocted a scheme to raid drug smugglers and take...

Before I get slammed with the usual "use the search function," let me explain that I HAVE attempted to use the search function. I did every combination of the following keywords that I could think of: Glenn Beck Kill Michael Moore Nothing came up. I am trying to find a full transcript, or better yet audio, of Glenn Beck saying "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself." Actually, I can find that on youtube. What I CAN'T seem to find is anything that has the FULL quotation, because if you listen to...

Right now, the FCC and Department of Justice are preparing to approve the NBC/Comcast merger -- something that would have dire consequences for years to come. It’s up to each one of us to do everything we can to stop big corporations from gaining control of our media. _________________________________________ Dear Attorney General Holder and Chairman Genachowski, We write to urge you to reject the merger of Comcast Corporation and NBC Universal. This deal would mean higher cable rates and less freedom of choice for American consumers, and it would give a single media conglomerate unprecedented control over the flow of...

I do not believe that Sarah Palin was intending to use surveyor symbols on her campaign map. I like guns, I play video games that have guns which use crosshairs, I have done at least a little research on guns and gun accessories. Even still, when I saw the symbols on the map I thought they were simplified images representing targets. I did not think she was trying to send a message that anyone should be shot or killed. I did not think that Sarah Palin wanted anyone to carry out an attack on a public figure. I did not...

I remember which party defends tax breaks for corporations that moved operations and your job overseas (0:17)Before I really dive into this issue, I want to address a related concern. This anti-Republican, anti-conservative, pro-Democrat advertisement begins with a complaint about moving jobs overseas. The creators of this ad are the same people who believe in and promote a global community, one world, and potentially even one world government. They want an international economy, but for the purposes of this election they are trying to look like supporters of job security within the United States. Don’t be fooled. So what are...

Two Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector were assaulted by illegal aliens near downtown Calexico early Friday morning. According to Agent Keith A. Croxton, of the El Centro Sector Public Affairs Office, at approximately 2:30 a.m., agents were attempting to rescue three illegal aliens from the All American Canal, which is located approximately three miles west of the U.S. Port of Entry at Calexico, Calif., West, when the assaults occurred. “That area is one of our most dangerous areas when it comes to assaults on agents,” Croxton said. “They get rocked there quite frequently.”

In 1968, Congress passed a law that prohibited desecration of the United States flag. This was in response to the actions of the so-called “Peace Movement.” Because flag burning was often associated with anti-establishment rhetoric and behavior that was often considered sedition, it became synonymous with anti-Americanism. It was often assumed that burning the flag was akin to burning the United States in effigy. In some cases this may have been a correct assumption, but it cannot be fairly stated that it was always true. Much to the dismay of patriots and pro-American sentimentalists, the law prohibiting the desecration of...
  • New York Mosque Should only be a community center, ‘not’ a mosque: A Muslim’s point of view.

As a Muslim it is my sincere wish Park 51 ‘not’ be used as an official mosque. This decision must be made immediately to save the nation from an anxiety ridden divisive debate and also to spare the 9/11 victim’s families ongoing anguish. I believe I am not the only muslim who feels this way about this difficult issue. We all know everyone is well within their rights to establish a place of worship virtually any place they wish but there is something far more important in this particular case which is getting sidelined as we all get caught up...

This weekend I'm going out of town to visit family. First we're going to see my wife's side of the family, and following that we're going to see my parents and younger sisters. Part of me is looking forward to this, part of me is dreading it. I will be telling both sides of the family that I am joining the Army. Seems like a good thing, right? Here's the problem: My wife and I have decided that she will be moving and taking a job near her family. This means giving up her current job and taking a $10K...

A child has been denied entrance into an Episcopal school in Bedford because her parents are married lesbians. Jill and Tracy Harrison, lesbians married in 2006 in Canada, applied to enroll their daughter into St. Vincent's School, in June. Jill gave birth to Olivia, thanks to a sperm donor. On the application, they crossed out the word father on the application and wrote mother and put Tracy's name on that line. Jill was written on the mother line. They attended the school's parent night on Tuesday, and now, just a few days before school starts Monday, the school is denying...

Supporters of gay marriage have been celebrating the honeymoon of their recent victory over Proposition 8 in California. In what they believe is a move towards greater freedom and liberty, Judge Vaughn Walker repealed the California law banning same-sex marriage. But as with all marriages, the union between gay rights activists and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California brings with it unexpected baggage. In order to fully understand that issue, one must be familiar with the structure of government in the United States. Unfortunately, the liberal influence over education has stunted the intellectual growth of...

I have recently experienced an epiphany that is frustrating only in its delay. I go to great lengths to be gentle and treat the topics discussed in my blog with kid gloves. I try to be “fair” and “considerate” in expressing my opinions and attempt to maintain a moral standard marked by courtesy and understanding, even when I address topics about which I am set in my position and often reach the grounds of intolerance. I do this out of respect for some of my friends, whose views and opinions are markedly more liberal than my own. It is an...
