“My gun was 100 feet away in my car, completely useless to me,” she says.

“I was angry at my legislators because they had legislated me out of the right to protect myself and my family.”

That’s a good example of why stupid laws should be broken.

“The theory: Unwanted children are more likely to become troubled adolescents, prone to crime and drug use, than are wanted children. When abortion was legalized in the 1970s, a whole generation of unwanted births were averted, leading to a drop in crime nearly two decades later when this phantom generation would have come of age.” This is what is written in Freakonomics. How can anyone take this seriously? And David Dinkins helped cut crime? LMAO!!!

I just had to comment on those. Other than that, I think it’s an “emotional” thing with Rudy. He was “America’s Mayor” during our darkest hour and people will support him no matter what. Unfortunately, I cannot support anyone who advocates gun control. Just my two cents worth!

Thank you for the welcome. I can certainly understand your concern over trolls!

Now that the shock has worn off, I suppose it's time to get off of this thread and just let it die.

My next concern is how to get to DC next weekend! ;-)

"Regardless, all the historic violence committed by the Hebrews and recorded in the Old Testament is just that—history. It happened; God commanded it. But it revolved around a specific time and place and was directed against a specific people. At no time did such violence go on to become standardized or codified into Jewish law."

Unlike Islam, which commands Muslims to keep fighting and killing for all time. Terrorist sympathizers have a hard time understanding that one.

They also say that the translations are incorrect. It does not preach violence, but peace and love.

How can so many translations be wrong?

"You can speculate about conspiracies all you want.... Who knows the truth. I do know the guy was crazy. As the article says, which is correct, this guy was well read and versed on constitution, history, etc. I got sucked into a number of debates with him. He was loaded for bear to support all his opinions. He never waivered from his positions was rigid and didn't want to hear anything that was in conflict with his beliefs. He was very paranoid HATED police of all types. He claimed he wanted a confrontation with them. He probably set this up with his bragging about his arsenal, his hate for Leos, and his paranoia. He may have created the very scenerio he feared by his bizarre behaviour."

I know this article is 5 years old, and I probably shouldn't be commenting on it, but I feel like I need to set the record straight. I am shocked and saddened by this story. I ran across this article trying to locate a friend. Mike McMoil was the friend I was looking for.

Mike and I met in 1986, and we lived together for several years. I moved from Raleigh in the early 90's and we didn't see each other very often because it was quite a long drive to my house and it was hard for him to get a ride, since he didn't own a car. After relocating several times and then finally getting married, we lost contact altogether. The last time I saw him was when I was working in Raleigh, running a route servicing ATMs, and we made plans for him, my husband, and I to get together. Unfortunately, that never happened.

Blackbag, I don't know who you think you're talking about, but Mike was NOT as you describe him. Yes, he was well read and extremely intelligent, but he was NOT crazy, nor was he paranoid. Paranoia is an IRRATIONAL fear. There was nothing irrational about his concern over losing our freedoms. If you think it's not happening, then you're either not paying attention or you're brain-dead. And for the ultimate slap in the face, I see that after his death, some moron wrote an editorial that illustrates exactly what the mindset is that he feared most:

    The News & Observer

    March 12, 2002

    Insufficient regulation

    Edition: Final
    Section: Editorial/Opinion
    Page: A12

Two March 2 People's Forum letters about the Michael McMoil case [reported in the Feb. 27 article "Man who killed self intense, well-read'] detailed gun law for us. But both letters blindly ignored the arsenal McMoil possessed and the threat the arsenal represented, and that changes in gun laws are needed.

One letter quoted the Brady Law at length to confuse the public with detail while omitting the fact that gun shows have two types of sellers -- federally licensed dealers and private individuals. The Brady Law applies only to licensed dealers. Since background checks are not required for long-gun sales by individuals, the system guarantees easy access to guns by felons and others who are prohibited from possessing firearms.

The second letter told us that there is nothing illegal in law-abiding citizens obtaining long guns from friends and neighbors. This is correct but also points to the weakness of our gun laws. An AK-15 semi-automatic assault-style rifle is a long gun. McMoil, a felon, had 15 of them. This well illustrates the problem. Because private sales are not regulated, it is easy for felons to obtain guns. There is no sure way to track a gun once it enters the secondary market.

Our lax gun laws made it easy for McMoil to amass an arsenal of assault weapons. It is time we did something about the laws and closed the gun market that sells to felons.

How's that for "paranoia"? "The threat the arsenal represented"? There was no threat---he was NOT a terrorist! His greatest hope was that he would NEVER have to use them!

For the person who made the comment about the anti-gunners loving people like this because they give gun owners a bad name, I will tell you this: He wasn't the one giving gun owners a bad name---that filthy liberal rag of a newspaper was the one doing that. Mike was always the kind of person that minded his own business, and wanted everyone else to mind theirs. He never wanted to hurt anyone. Yeah, sometimes he would talk a big line, but that's all it was, and he admitted that to me. Sometimes he would say things like "If I get into a firefight with the law, I'll take as many of those motherf@#kers out with me as I can." Well, he had the chance, didn't he? But he didn't do it. He didn't do it because he was NOT the violent nutjob that everyone is trying to make him out to be. He did NOT want confrontation with the law, or anyone else. He just wanted to be left alone.

I find it rather difficult to believe that he would take his own life. He always said the Raleigh PD was corrupt...perhaps their report wasn't really as it happened? I don't know. But I DO know this: the "felony assault on a police officer" is total bull. He was "windowshopping" and the cop pulled up and started harassing him, so he booked. He never attacked that cop, it was a set-up. It was a LIE! The Raleigh PD have been harassing him for a long time...why? Who knows? Maybe because he worked nights and was always seen walking at night looking like a shady character that either dressed in all black or camo? He told me he had to start walking home on the railroad tracks just so he wouldn't be bothered by the cops. (The hours that he worked, according to this article, was 7pm to 7am. That wasn't the case when we were together. His hours back then were 3:30 to 11:30pm.) I think they started watching him after the day we went to a gun show, and he bought a rifle. We were driving home and my car broke down. We had to get out and walk on the busy highway to find a phone. (no cell phone back then!) He wasn't about to leave the rifle in the car, so he brought it with him. It wasn't long before we had several police cars surrounding us! After we explained our situation and they were shown the receipt for the rifle, everything was fine. BUT...that's when they started keeping an eye on him.

Blackbag, he never "bragged" about his "arsenal", and if you truly knew him, you would know that. And don't try to convince people that he was "off his meds". He wasn't taking any meds because he didn't need any. As for "bizarre behavior", what does that mean? Because he had strong beliefs that you didn't agree with? Because he dressed differently? Or maybe because he didn't have a whole lot of friends? I don't understand that comment. If you really knew him like you say you do, you would know that he was no more "bizarre" than anyone else. He loved learning, books, kittens, coffee, and yes, guns. He was a kind and caring person. He found a kitten on the railroad tracks on his way home from work one night...it had its tail crushed by the train, and there was a dent in its head. He brought the kitten home and we both nursed it back to health. Because of Mike, that cat had a good long life.

Mike was a good and decent person, and he will always have a special place in my heart. These false accusations of him being a nut and a whacko are sickening. What's even more sickening is what the Raleigh Gestapo finally accomplished. I know they must be proud of themselves for what they did to a totally innocent person that they despised only because he dressed different and dared to walk the streets at night.

And you say MIKE was paranoid?

RIP Mike. I will always love you.
