On Sunday, the field goal pictured above gave the Cincinnati Bengals a last-second overtime victory over the Cleveland Browns. It appeared pretty routine at the time. Shayne Graham booted it through the uprights, the officials positioned under the goalpost raised their hands to signal the kick was good, the Bengals celebrated, the Browns sulked and Rich Gannon was disappointed there was no kickoff afterward.

An Oakland Raiders cornerback claims he was penalized on Sunday for making a religious display while celebrating an interception. After picking off a Matt Schaub pass in the end zone, Oakland Raiders cornerback Chris Johnson celebrated by dropping to his knees and raising his arms in triumph. He was instantly flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration. Johnson later complained that he was whistled for thanking God:

New Jersey homeowners put 7 percent of their paychecks toward property taxes in 2008 — the highest in the country, a tax group said today. The state, with the highest property taxes in the nation, is home to six of the nation’s 10 most expensive counties, according the Tax Foundation, a nonprofit group that analyzed Census data released this week. But this year’s list was better for New Jersey than 2007, when the state claimed seven of the top 10 spots.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS -- The Toms River man charged in the hit-and-run death of former American Idol contestant Alexis Cohen is scheduled to be in court this afternoon in Ocean County for an initial hearing in the case. Daniel Bark, 23, has been charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident in the Saturday crash that killed Cohen, a 25-year-old Allentown, Pa. resident. Cohen, a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol, was struck by a car as she was walking near the intersection of Bay Boulevard and Dupont Avenue in the beach town of Seaside Heights.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. – Authorities say a 25-year-old former two-time "American Idol" contestant has been struck and killed by a car in a New Jersey shore town. The Asbury Park Press reports that Alexis Cohen, of Allentown, Pa., was killed early Saturday in Seaside Heights.

ATLANTA (AP)—Former boxing champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed during an apparent robbery in Atlanta, police said Sunday. Atlanta Police Sgt. Lisa Keyes said in an e-mail Sunday that Forrest may have been robbed and was shot “multiple times in the back” Saturday night in Atlanta.
