I was just in the hospital for a week following a ruptured appendix and subsequent emergency surgery. I’ve only received the surgeon’s bill so far (more on this later)... it is $7236. Although life-threatening, this was only a 45-min surgery with no complications. Prior to the surgery, there was a CAT scan ($?) and anesthesiologist ($?). I’ve put ($?) next to those because I was warned that they will send their own bills, like the surgeon, separate from the hospital bill. I do not know what the 7-day hospital bill is yet, either.
I’m 41 and deemed “uninsurable” by every insurance company I’ve applied to. My employer doesn’t offer insurance. For what it’s worth, I also own a tiny business, which I run at an additional 20+ hrs/week. My dream is to grow it and do that full-time. No help getting insurance coverage with that.
Am I really the only person on FR who is uninsured and can’t get insurance? There are well over a hundred regular posters on FR and it just seems unlikely. I wonder if some are keeping their mouths shut on here.
I’m far from endorsing Obamacare. It’s just that I keep reading that those of us who are uninsured are illegals, transients, etc.
