  • EVERY VETERAN Needs To Act Today<br> Honor Frank Buckles, Last WWI Veteran

How will they send off the Last Doughboy? A Texas congressman who worked with the last surviving World War I veteran to try to create a national memorial to “The Great War” is calling for the late Army veteran Frank Buckles to lie in repose in the Capitol Rotunda — a setting usually reserved to honor those who have been president. Honoring Buckles at the Capitol “is our chance to say thank you to the last of a generation,” said Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, who served in the Air Force Reserves in the 1970s. “It is the final legacy of...

I'm looking for some help from my FReepers. I'm trying to find an internet video of a political ad. The ad features Uncle Sam digging a hole, deeper and deeper with every shovelfull. At the end, a little girl comes up to the edge of the hole, looks down, and says "Please stop" or "Please stop digging." Can anyone find this ad on the net? Thanks
  • FR Amendment Proposal: Limit Congress' Power Under the Commerce Clause

We have a LOT of smart people at FR. I'd like to tap some of that brainpower, and come up with language to be included in a new Constitutional Amendment. We've seen how all three branches of our government have perverted the Commerce Clause of our Constitution. (Article 1, Section 8) That clause reads "Congress shall have the power ... To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;" The list of abuses of this clause is too long to enumerate here. Rather, I'd like to enlist your help to limit that power....

A news story tonight reported that only 40% of those surveyed knew someone who had died in the service of Ameica. SAo, this being Memorial Day weekend, I'd like to ask my fellow FReepers to list the names of those you personally knew who have given their lives in the service of their country. I will start. • Is Anything Short of Deportation Still Amnesty?

    April 28, 2010 | mukraker
I have a question I’d like to ask of my fellow Freepers. Would anything short of deportation of illegal immigrants still be considered amnesty? Realistically and logistically, how are we going to deport 12+ million illegal aliens? What can actually be done? A partial solution, one that I think would work, would be to allow anyone who is here illegally to come forward, on their own accord, by a date certain, and admit they are here illegally. They would appear in a court of law, and plead guilty to entering the country illegally, or overstaying their visas, or whatever the...

Roger Roth, Wisconsin Assemblyman and Candidate for Congress, Wisconsin’s 8th District, had this observation about the U.S. Constitution: “The Constitution is a wonderful document. It’s a great piece of paper that’s got a lot of words on it. But you know, at the end of the day, it’s just a piece of paper that’s got a lot of words on it. And we need to elect representatives that believe in that.” “It’s not so much ... I asked a class of, of, uh, you know, I go around to my local schools and talk to fourth, fifth, sixth graders, and...
  • Google Goes Black For Martin Luther King Holiday

Has anyone else noticed that today, Martin Luther King Day in America, Google has gone black? The Google logo, which puts up a turkey and pilgrims on Thanksgiving, a Christmas tree and snow for Christmas, has made their GOOGLE logo all black today. I seem to recall something about judging by the content of one's character, not by color....something I heard once long ago....could it be I am the only one who remembers such a crazy notion?

OK, by now you've heard about the late-night television wars heating up. NBC is trying to get Jay Leno back on late night, while Conan O'Brien ponders his future. IF Conan goes to FOX, what would be a good title for the new show? For years, Johnny Carson joked about the number of women who went to bed watching him on tv. So i thought a great title for a late night show would be "Going To Bed..with [name of host]" What other creative titles can we FReepers come up with?

In the rush to pass the so-called “healthcare reform bill,” U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) stamped his feet and held his breath until he extracted his presents from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One such gift exempts Nebraska from paying the $45 million dollar increase in Medicaid imbursement costs. Nelson was the 60th Democrat to get his stocking stuffed. Smart parents know not to give in to petulant children trying these shenanigans. If we gave kids everything they demanded, our family budget would be as busted as last year’s toy under the couch. You know, the one with batteries that...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - It was announced today that noted radio reconteur Rush Limbaugh has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, for his life-long work inspiring countless entrepreneurs to take a risk, start their own businesses, and improve their economic status without government interference. After initial ballot counts showed Barack Hussein Obama had won this award too, a re-count in the Norwegian state of Minnestoa showed Limbaugh had actually won the award by some 312 votes. In an exclusive interview conducted after his national radio program had finished for the day, Limbaugh seemed surprised at the award. "I didn't even...

Is it time for Congressional term limits? Here's my proposal: Proposed Amendment to the United States Constitution ~ Congressional Term Limits Section 1. No person shall serve as a Representative in the United States House of Representatives for more than three terms. No person serving any portion of a term in the United States House of Representatives shall serve more than two subsequent terms in the United States House of Representatives. Section 2. Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Government is too big and it spends too much. I know, I know. We’ve been hearing this same old refrain all of our lives. But since the Democrats seized control of the nation’s purse strings in 2007, and with Liberals now in control of both the Congress and the White House, the people we’ve chosen to govern our Republic have turned up the flames fueling this smoldering cauldron of debt even beyond maximum. And now, on Friday August 21, the Obama White House announced that over the next ten years America will spend...

I have a simple question I'd like to ask of my fellow FReepers. Has the time come for We, the Peiople, to recall EVERY Member of Congress? Should we then move also to IMPEACH President Barrach Hussein Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden? Taking a look at what this bunch has done to America in the last 6 months, can We, the People, wait another 18 months for the next election? Can America afford to wait?
  • Would You Choose Palliative Care?

Palliative (pal·li·a·tive): soothing; soothing anxieties or other intense emotions; treating symptoms only; alleviating pain and symptoms without eliminating the cause; symptom-treating medicine; something that palliates, especially a medicine that treats symptoms only. H.R. 3200 America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 is the “health care reform” bill that’s making it’s way through the House of Representatives. While there are more than 561 bills enrolled in the House that deal in one form or another with health care, this is the bill the leadership is referring to when they talk about “the bill.” Here’s just one little section of this legislation,...

Methinks Wisconsin State Senator Jim Holperin doth protest too much. In his attempts to rebut a critique by Tom Tiffany of his first six months in the Democrat-controlled Wisconsin Senate, Senator Holperin parrots the Democrat talking point that the Democrats “eliminated a $6.6 billion deficit, and left the state with a $270 million surplus.” Two observations here: If there’s going to be a $270 million surplus, that means Wisconsin taxpayers will be paying $270 million more in taxes than it will take to pay for Democrat spending. I don’t suppose the taxpayers will get any of that surplus money back,...

Regardless of political party or ideological persuasion, there are limited resources and outcomes possible with H.R. 3200 America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009. There is no doubt that the stakes are high for individuals and businesses. It is critical that citizens engage in the discussion and that ‘we the people’ read the bill and act accordingly. ‘Politics as Usual’ bedtime stories, when combined with chicken cordon bleu in the home of large political contributors, does not a good healthcare policy make. What it makes is a rather redundant kettle of ‘Status Quo Soup’ stirred with the spoon of insider...
