16,000 GOP Voters Crossed Over CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is investigating whether any Republicans broke the law when they switched parties in the March 4 presidential primary to back the candidate that they perceived to be a weaker opponent for GOP nominee-in-waiting John McCain. The board expects the results of the investigation March 31. The board wants to know if voters lied when they signed statements pledging allegiance to their new party. About 16,000 GOP voters crossed over to vote for Democrats in the primary. It's not clear whether the board will try to prosecute voters....

The 2005 Rally for the Troops, Cleveland is now history, and I have spent enough time beside the fire at home that I am thawed out enough to report that it was a cold, wet, drizzly SUCCESS for every veteran, active duty military personnel, or parent of same that turned out on the late winter day on the North Coast of America. Free Republic's own Nikki Mendicino was there with Mark Mix, a 33 year old soldier from Columbus Ohio who was recently paralyzed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and is confined to a wheelchair. Nikki got a great reception from...

Last week was the KerryLied Rally in Washington, D.C. that many Vietnam veterans had been waiting months for. It was a good rally, Free Republic was well represented, especially with Tax Relief constantly sitrepping Huber, who was keeping the world updated through Free Republic. The weather was great, and everybody went home feeling good about coming together to repudiate the lies, treachery, deceit and traitorous behavior of John Forbes Kerry in 1970, 1971, and 1972. For some of us it was only the start. Mentor, Ohio is a bedroom suburb of Cleveland, snuggled up under Lake Erie 25 miles to...
  • Bush's National Guard yearsBefore you fall for Dems' spin, here are the facts:

What do you really know about George W. Bush’s time in the Air National Guard? That he didn’t show up for duty in Alabama? That he missed a physical? That his daddy got him in? News coverage of the president’s years in the Guard has tended to focus on one brief portion of that time — to the exclusion of virtually everything else. So just for the record, here, in full, is what Bush did: The future president joined the Guard in May 1968. Almost immediately, he began an extended period of training. Six weeks of basic training. Fifty-three weeks...

Voinovich jabs Bush on trade, Ohio jobs Friday, July 16, 2004 Stephen Koff Plain Dealer Bureau Chief Washington- He's in the same political party as the president, but Sen. George Voinovich sounded much like a Democrat on Thursday when he accused the Bush administration of not doing enough to stop Ohio from "bleeding jobs." The Ohio Republican complained on the Senate floor that, despite his protests, the Bush administration has yet to "take any significant action" against China for currency manipulation and counterfeiting American goods, which rob Ohio factories of thousands of jobs. "The state of enforcement is nothing short...

The John Kerry bus tour rolled into Cleveland about right on time. Conspiratoristo, DollyCali, Oliver the Wonder Dog and Bill the almost FReeper were there to see it, but if the police had nor sounded the sirens you wouldn't have thought anything of it.We were there to protest the Senator, some deaf individuals were there to support EEOC/ADA issues, and there wasNO ONE ELSE!!!It's true that there was a twenty mile and hour wind, it was 35 degrees out, (what does that make the wind chill?), and we first got there at 5:00 and stayed until 6:20, so I guess...

A Vietnam veterans organization and a Vietnamese-American group have united in opposition to Democratic presidential front-runner Sen. John Kerry. "We represent hundreds of thousand of American veterans who do not want to see John Kerry anywhere near the Oval Office," said Ted Sampley, founder of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry. Sampley is a U.S. Army Green Beret and veteran of two combat tours in Vietnam. Said Sampley: "I have personally dealt with John Kerry on the issue of U.S. POWs left behind in Vietnam. Kerry is not truthful and is not worthy of the support of U.S. veterans. Many Vietnam...

Politics is a new investigative subject for me, but it didn’t take long to uncover evidence that the traditional Conservative political movement is stalled. Important agenda items are moving very slowly, or not at all. And on some key issues, the Movement suffers a total loss of momentum, and even policy reversals. The vast grassroots, which the Conservative movement depends on for much of its funding and other support, may be perplexed that anybody would claim that a Republican President and GOP control of the House and the Senate equals a negative. But consider the recent signing of the partial-birth...

The Patriots' Rally - Cleveland went off without a hitch, but we still don't know where Badray from Pittsburgh is. *VBG* If he turned down the wrong street I guess we will find out when we read the Police Blotter. We had 11 brave souls who were prepared to face the brisk November winds off Lake Erie that wound up getting sunburned instead. An absolutely perfect day, and we got a great reception from the fans except for one or two tailgaters who got there at approx. 7AM and were pretty well gone before they started walking to the game.I...

American businessmen and farmers are finally waking up to how they were sold a bill of goods by those who promised that China would be a profitable billion-mouth market if we just gave that developing country Most Favored Nation trade privileges and assisted its admission into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Like Claude Rains in "Casablanca," the Bush Administration is "shocked, shocked" to discover that Communists don't play by the rules or keep their promises. Chinese behavior is so blatant that U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans just went to Beijing for a week's visit to complain about China's trade...

VOTE “NO” ON ISSUE 1 Ohioans have the opportunity to vote against the expansion of Governor Taft’s transforming economic development plan, Issue 1, also known as the Third Frontier. A frontier, according to Webster, is a new field for exploitive or developmental activity. The first frontier was taming the wilderness, the second, the industrial frontier according to some, or the exploration of outer space according to others. For central planners to put the transformation of our economy on par with those frontiers is fair warning that Issue 1 is a big deal. Proponents say it will create jobs (as though...

Will Cajigas showed NewsChannel5 the notification letter sent to dozens of his neighbors. The school district informed them that a sexual predator has moved within blocks of Thoreau Park Elementary School in Parma.
