  • WSJ: Iranian Forces Reportedly Help Iraqi Army Retake Tikrit

    Re:
This was their only play. Let the Iranians fight for them. Waiting for Obama to act would only get them beheaded.

Why is it the responsibility or obligation of our brave soldiers of our seriously overstretched Army of the past decade to save Malaki from his blunders of purging Sunni from his regime? Shouldn’t it first be the responsibility of Iraq’s neighbors to step up and then we can supplement their coalition action? Iran, Turkey, Jordan etc.

It is grandstanding fools like McCain who keep wanting to inject our Army into Middle-Eastern religious conflicts, when his record is rife with blown calls and ignorance about the region. For instance:

April 23, 2003 McCain claims that the Sunnis and the Shias have no history of conflict in Syria and will be able to get along in the post war. Wrong. And when questioned he predicted that there would be no signifcant Sunni/Shia violent conflict in Iraq.

Re: “It is easy to understand why the Syrian opposition would be motivated to do this and attach blame to the regime.”

That is sort of a moot point, Katana, now that Israel has revealed that they have intercepted Syrian messages, real-time, about the chemical attacks. Is Israel lying to help Obama? That doesn’t quite make sense. You can read the news here:
    http://www.latimes.com/world/worldnow/la-fg-wn-syria-israel-intelligence-chemical-attack-20130827,0,1940412.story

Germany’s Focus magazine said Saturday that Israel’s secretive signals intelligence agency, Unit 8200, eavesdropped on a conversation between senior Syrian officials about use of chemical agents.

On Friday, Israel’s Channel 2 reported that rockets containing chemical agents were fired by the 155th Brigade of the 4th Armored Division, a division under the command of the Syrian president’s brother, Maher Assad.

The shells were reportedly fired from a military base in a mountain range west of Damascus, the news channel said, without disclosing its sources.

If this pans out, there is even less reason to believe that the rebels somehow stole the Russian missiles that carried the chemical warhead — and then aimed it at themselves? That’s a bit of a stretch, isn’t it?

    Chris,

    1) This young man is not being deported.

    2) As several news stories point out, both the president and the first lady visited the injured at several hospitals, not just this one man. There is zero evidence that Michelle Obama or the president specifically went to the hospital to visit this man.

Obama has many things to answer for. But Beck’s “most important revelation in his career” is turning out not to be one of them.

RE: Whatever the case may be, this government owes the people of this country a detailed, truthful and immediate explanation of exactly what is going on here, because right now it looks like they are covering for Saudi terrorists.

Actually, no it doesn’t. Reporters and researchers were puzzled by Beck’s claim that this young man, Alharbi, was on a most-wanted terrorist list. Except that he is not, as they discovered. What they discovered is that his surname is very common in the region with thousands of people related to that clan. So they checked and they found that sure enough, there are a number of Alharbis on various terrorist lists and at Gitmo, but none of them are this man. Either Beck or the congressmen or his researchers or whoever fed him the material apparently did not look behind the similar name. Check out the list if you need convincing.

Many from Al-Harbi’s clan are entrenched in terrorism and are members of Al-Qaeda as identified by the Islamic governements.
Out of a list of 85 terrorists listed by the Saudi government shows several of Al-Harbi clan to have been active fighters in Al-Qaeda:
    #15 Badr Saud Uwaid Al-Awufi Al-Harbi
    #73 Muhammad Atiq Uwaid Al-Awufi Al-Harbi
    #26 Khalid Salim Uwaid Al-Lahibi Al-Harbi
    #29 Raed Abdullah Salem Al-Thahiri Al-Harbi
#43 Abdullah Abdul Rahman Muhammad Al-Harbi (leader)
    #60 Fayez Ghuneim Humeid Al-Hijri Al-Harbi
    Source: http://aalhameed1.net/vb/showthread.php?t=1565

Then you have Al-Harbi clan members in Gitmo:
    Salim Salman Awadallah Al-Sai’di Al-Harbi
    Majid Abdullah Hussein Al-Harbi
    Muhammad Abdullah Saqr Al-Alawi Al-Harbi
    Ghanem Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al-Harbi
    Muhammad Atiq Uwaid Al-Awfi Al-Harbi

Imagine of his name was Tommy Thompson. See the point?

BOSTON(CBS) President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama visited victims of the Boston Marathon bombings at several hospitals Thursday afternoon.

After attending an interfaith service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the president rode to Massachusetts General Hospital where he met privately with patients, their families and hospital staff.

People keep mentioning swing states. Here are the latest average of polls in all 11 “swing states” as recorded in RCP. Keep in mind that almost all these state polls are taken 2d and 3rd week of August, pre-September, almost all taken in the period when Romney surged by three points after choosing Ryan. Most state polls waited until after the Dem convention to update so we will see a slew of polls from the swing states over the next 7-10 days, which will show either Romney tightening the gap and taking over the lead within MOE in some states. Or they might show that Obama is returning to his early-August leads. Who knows?

    9/9 swing states
    • New Hampshire (4 electoral votes) +3.5 average for Obama, last poll in August +6 Obama... 2008 Obama +9.6
    • Wisconsin (10) +1.4 Obama, Ryan selection brought it up to a Romney advantage but last two polls back to • Obama lead... 2008 Obama +13.9
    • Colorado (9) Obama +3.4... 2008 Obama +9.0
    • Florida (29) Obama +1.7... 2008 Obama +2.8
    • Iowa (6) Obama +.02... 2008 Obama +9.5
    • Michigan (16) Obama +4.0, polls average Obama +3-7 with one tie... 2008 Obama +16.4
    • Nevada (6) Obama +3.3... 2008 Obama +12.5
    • Ohio (18) Obama +2.2... 2008 Obama +4.6
    • Virginia (13) Obama +0.6... 2008 Obama +6.3
    • North Carolina (15) Romney +2.0... 2008 Obama +0.3

Some people keep mentioning that Maine could give one electoral vote to Romney since it is a state splits EV. High doubtful
    • Maine +15.4 Obama... 2008 Obama +17.3, not in play by any definition

    RE:
“El Rushbo called it the Doug Wilder factor but IIRC it was about the LA mayoral election with Tom Bradley the black candidate; he lost but the phone polls had him so far ahead that the conclusion was that people called by pollsters were fearful of declaring for Bradley’s opponent for fear of being labeled “racist” and that info somehow entering a permanent database.

If Obama’s ahead in Rasmussen, how does anyone know that’s the result of a lot of false answers from people who will vote for Romney but feel that they dare not say so to an anonymous voice calling them out of the blue?”

Well let’s test-drive that El Rushbo theory with the 2008 results, El Cid. I study stats of elections, so I know his theory sure did not work in that Obama election:

    2008
    Final poll
    Gallup 55-44
    Rasmussen 52-46
    RCP Avg 53-46

    Final results
    Obama 52.9-45.7

Is it possible that Romney/Ryan and the RNC just blew it? They had a terrific chance with the convention, but even conservative sources are noting that the RNC convention was a bit of a dud in comparison.

Both the conventions are circuses and we taxpayers get billed for $50 million for each of them. How about we stand up and tell both parties to pay for their own da*n conventions? No more taxpayer-paid conventions for any party. Period.

Re: “Obama is nowhere near as popular as he was in 2008, but he is going to hold Florida and likely Ohio and that spells trouble for team Romney. Romney will likely regain Virginia and North Carolina for the Republicans but not having Florida and Ohio means he is going to have to pull off a miracle win in Wisconsin and New Hampshire and Maine all 3 are in play for him.”

That too will be tough. According to realclearpolitics.com average of polls, here is the present situation in those three states you named, my favorite headache:

Maine +15.4 Obama, not in play by any definition
New Hampshire +3.5 average for Obama, last poll in August +6 Obama
Wisconsin +1.4 Obama, Ryan selection brought it up to a Romney advantage but last two polls back to Obama lead

This is a turnaround from +4 for Romney last Sunday, of eight points. And Rasmussen also reports Obama's job approval up to 52-45 in favor of Obama as of today.

Gallup showed a rise of six points for Obama from +1 Romney last Sunday to +5 Obama today.

Does this foretell an actual bounce for Obama?

Compared to Romney's convention bounced of exactly one point from his Sunday to Sunday? A lead now vanished?

I think that other vets (I’m US Army, 1963-66, will join with me in disputing that Ben Smith’s behavior is either heroic or fitting with the code of the Navy SEALs. For instance:

In Facebook postings, OPSEC spokesman rips ‘Communist-in-Chief Hussein Mao-bama’

The lead spokesman for OPSEC Education Fund, a group of former special operations soldiers attacking PresidentBarack Obama’s national security credentials, has a long record of questioning the president’s birthplace and religion, and calling him names like “Commander-in-Chief Hussein Mao-bama,” trumpeting conspiracy theories, and insulting Muslims.

Former Navy SEAL Ben Smith is often quoted representing OPSEC Education Fund , a group of former special operations members who accuse the president of allowing leaks about classified military operations and taking undue credit for the work of special operations forces, such as the May 2011 killing of Osama bin Laden.
In Facebook postings, OPSEC spokesman rips ‘Communist-in-Chief Hussein Mao-bama’
The group claims to be non-partisan, although the New York Times has reported that several of its members have been involved in Republican campaigns or have been associated with the Tea Party in the past.

Smith, who is featured in OPSEC’s 22-minute video “Dishonorable Disclosures,” was not only a spokesman for the Tea Party Express, he has a long record of writings that seek to portray the president as a foreign-born imposter bent on driving a socialist-Marxist agenda.

Following the president’s January 2012 State of the Union Address, Smith wrote on his Facebook page , “This speech was given by the Heir Communist-in-Chief Hussein Mao-bama.”

Smith then wrote that Obama had used “some bad tan lotion because he looked like an old bruised Banana which made me think that Harry Belafonte was walking out to give his rendition of ‘Day-O’ before ‘ole’ suck and blow’ was to come out and enlighten us with his blasphemous spew.”

“You are an Imposter, You are a Muslim (Cassius Clay, Lew Alcindor, Barry Soetoro), You are the Manchurian President and may you go back to the country you were born in when you are deposed you little, little man (and take all your communist sympathizers with you),” Smith wrote. “You insult everything that was considered American. May you and your administration be a lesson to history and your posterity be lost to the rebirth of AMERICAN PATRIOTISM!”

The Navy SEALs are among the bravest military units of history and have been showered with admiration and respect, by people all over the world, especially after the Bin Laden raid. But people like Smith, and Matt Bissonette, who will pick up nearly %5 million for his tell-all book, have succeeded in one thing. They have driven a wedge between Seals, causing to fracture and morale and cohesion both are heading south. The Secretary of the Navy has a huge job on his hands, trying to restore morale in this proud military unit.

I posted my questions on the other thread with the Enquirer smear about Boehner, but no one seemed to be able to answer. Maybe someone here can. First of all, your general anger seems to be misplaced. Neither the NY Times nor Politico nor any of the national MSM have made this their #1 story, as predicted here. The only cable network that has is MSNBC and they kneejerked as usual. The ones pushing this are the editors of the National Enquirer. And then the blogs have milked this Boehner smear, the same blogs who milked the Enquirer exposes about Edwards and Gore.
Could someone explain to us how the charge here seems to go -- that the liberals, Obama and Enquirer teamed up to smear Speaker Boehner and bring him down. The New York Post was the medium that broke these charges last September and put Boehner in the uncomfortable position of having to defend himself. Do any of you really think that the NY Post is also in league with Obama, the liberals and the Enquirer to bring him down? That seems like a pretty wide conspiracy from the liberal to the conservative. I’d like to see something to back up those kinds of conspiracy claims other than opinions and blogs and YouTube videos. Looks to me like Boehner is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Regardless of the smear techniques by the tabloids, Post and Enquirer.
