  • Archeologists discover St. Paul's tomb

The term " thorn in the flesh" or thorn in my side as used in the old testament most often stood for persecution from your enemies. Paul is asking the Lord to remove the Judaizers from coming behind him, and trying to put his converts back under the law. It was'nt sickness, and it wasn't homosexuality for God's sake!

An excellent article. Being in the ministry for the last eighteen years, and ministering here and overseas, I have seen evil first-hand. There is a "mind" behind evil and his name is satan. I have personally cast his demons out of people. I remember one time a lady who came to us for help, began to shake and dropped to the floor. The temperature in the room immediately dropped and she began to speak and three maybe four different voices were coming out of her at the same time. They were speaking all kinds of foul things and saying they were going to kill us etc. My wife and another couple from our ministry, dropped to the floor to hold her down so she would' nt hurt herself thrashing about. She was laying prone, I was on one arm , my wife sitting on her ankles, and one holding her other arm. She was exhibiting super human strength and it was almost impossible to hold her down. My wife, who at the time weighed about 140lbs, was thrown over the lady's head into a cabinet. Well, as we began to command these demons to leave in Jesus' Name, they began to leave one by one until 13 separate demons left in all. When they were all gone the lady got up and said "they are gone, I''m free!"

Yes, I believe that Islamic militants have opened the door to demonic possession, and willfully given themselves over to real evil. The Bible says that we are not at war with flesh and blood but with principalities, evil powers and wicked spirits that are waging war against humanity in their vain attempt to overthrow the Kingdom of God. I believe that GW has an understanding of this to a certain degree and it is indeed influencing him.

It seems to me that the church will always look foolish to the world. God has chosen it to be so. And their will always be well meaning christians who err from time to time, thus bringing out the cries of those who hate the cause of Christ to condemn christianity as a dangerous, radical, religion. But, in reality as christians, there is nothing that we can do that is wrong, that will truly hurt the cause of Christ, because it is Christ Himself who is building His Church. Our ability to mess up does and cannot trump His eternal victory. No one will be able to stand before God on judgement day and say "Well, I rejected Your Son because of a report on "Dateline", and saw how unreasonable Your christians were. It's their fault I rejected You! " Jesus will just say "I offered you a relationship with Myself, not them. Depart from Me, I never knew you!"

Anyway, the churches call is to know Him and let Him pour His life through us to the lost. We have missed it in thinking that we are here to be His policemen against evil. We must return to preaching the gospel of Peace and not a gospel of Law. Grace has come! Now, go tell!

The Bible also clearly states that it is a wicked generation that seeks after a sign. In other words if you want to find God, you must find Him by grace (God's own ability to enable you to do what you cannot naturally do on your own) through faith. (the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen) . Of course God has placed evidence of Himself in His creation. The perfection of the Universe etc. No one is going to be able to stand before God after they die and say to Him, "Hey, I got a raw deal, How was I suppose to know you were real?" The Bible also says, "Those who come to Him, must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Faith, not science is the proof of God's existence because the faith you need to believe comes only from Him. sorry man, no other way!

The article as with most Calvinist doctrine misses the one crucial argument put forth in scripture. That is that God is Love. God wanted a bride so He created man. He wanted His Love returned or in others words to be loved back. This is the nature of relationship. But, in creating man out of love in order to have a relationship he had to give man the ability to choose to love God back. That is why He place the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden. Man chose unwisely and was forced to live by rules laws morals and values to be with God. These things could never satisfy the demands of a relationship based on Love, love is not obeyed it is chosen. God chose to love us, we choose to love Him.

The other thing that love requires is risk. This is very important. Everyone of us that has ever fallen in love with someone has put themselves at risk that the object of that love might reject them. God knew this as well. He created us with the right inherent in love to turn to Him and reject His offer of Love towards us. Mankind rejects Him every second of every day yet He still loves us. Some people find out that He loves them and accept Him as their God, Jesus as their God and savior and He frees us from our sinful conditions and marriage to the law, causes the death of our sinful nature, and gives us a brand new nature capable of loving Him back through His own love in our hearts. To me a God Who puts Himself at risk of being rejected by the one He Loves is a much much bigger God than one who merely preprograms some lucky ones to be His bride. That sounds like the prearrainged marriages in third world countries. No choice. Just do it.

No, we are all predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus, to be saved, to be Loved by a God who understood that Love was a choice. But, unfortunately, many will reject His love proposal. And to be honest with you, this kind of Calvinst doctrine portrays God to the world as more of a Geppetto than a God of Love

Spurgeon was sincere, but, sincerely wrong. It is hard to convince a calvinist otherwise, But, love requires freedom to choose and freedom to be chosen. Freedom requires risk and God put Himself at risk when He created angels & man. They had the freedom to look into God's eyes so to speak and say "I reject you" God doen't make men say it or predestine them to say it. It's there own choice. There is no more self serving belief or prideful doctrine than election. God predetermined all mankind for relationship with Himself, even at the risk of knowing many would reject it. He does not want anyone to perish, but they will by choice.

StacyMac to Who is George Salt?
Obviously George, you, like many christians do not realize that as Paul said in Romans chapter 7:1-4 that christians are to consider themselves dead to living by law. That is to say that we are no longer judged by the law that God gave to the Jews. Law, living by rules of right and wrong come from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" First Corinthians 15:56 says that the power of sin is the Law. Romans says that law causes sin to arouse in us. Trying to convert someone to christianity by preaching law to them will just bring them under the law of sin and death. We are to tell them about Christ and why He died for mankind so that they could know that God loves us, his creation. We are to live by His Life and not by rules, values or moral law. When a Christian understands that God loves them not because of their obeying His law but because of their acceptance of Jesus, His gift to us, then living a good and moral life will come naturally from knowing and loving Him, not by trying to live by a set of rules and Godly laws that God gave specifically to show us that we could not possibly live by them. The law was given to show us that we are not perfect apart from Him, that we were sinners. The law was not given to make us righteous, but to show us we were not. Galations 3:20 says that "If a law were given that was able to make us righteous, then indeed, righteousness would have come by the law, .." But, as a christian it is important to know that we are made righteous simply by accepting Jesus Christ as our savior. He gets all the glory. Many christians try to teach the law to control others, but as the bible says, "It was for freedom, that Christ has set us free." The Law that gives sin it's power over mankind is what He set us free from. Could you accept a God like that? That is true christianity.

Since The Word is a living thing and dwells in my heart, I am not upset when the printed Word is burned. Jesus is the Living Word and not even death can separate me from Him. They will know we are chrisians because of the love we demonstrate towards God, each other, and the world. If your sense of worth or self-esteem comes from your doctrine or a book even the New Testament , then you will be feel threatened or even angry when someone does something like this school. But, if your worth and sense of self comes from knowing that Jesus died for you and God's great love for you, then you will still be able to walk in love toward those who despise you and your beliefs in Jesus.

It is obvious to me that you are not a disciple of the Word, but more a disciple of Hank Hanegraff and all the other modern pharisees. Believing the Word and using your faith to implement it into your life is not new age. Speaking to the mountain in your life is not new age. Your words when mixed with your God-given faith have the power to change circumstances. Without faith it is impossible to please Him. Doctrine that comes out of the "Calvary, Chuck Smith" camp are making well intentioned believers throw up their hands when problems come and question God's intentions. I have seen it all too often. Word of Faith is by no means perfect, but none of us are. It's just that some of us live by faith rather than reason.

Ray, God is not some cosmic puppet-master controlling everything that goes on here on earth. He is in control of His plans and purposes, but man's sin is not able to change that.

Tell me, which God is bigger? The one Who has to manipulate all events on earth including evil ones to make His plan work, or One Who allows man to make his own decisions to follow Him and righteousness or follow satan and evil, and yet still make His plan work regardless of man's sin? God is bigger than our sin and does'nt have to kill us or punish us to keep His eternal plan on track. He controls the times and the seasons and everything will happen just as He says it will, regardless of how wicked man-kind gets. After all, He's God!!!!

Of course, God does allow many evil things to happen. Like abortion, murder, rape, genocide. The question is not "Why does God allow it?". The question is "Is it His will?". The answer to all questions of evil is of course it is not His will. But, He has given man free will of our own so that we may choose to have a relationship with Him not based on His punishing us into doing things to please Him, but based on the knowledge that He loves us and poured out the wrath of His justice upon His own Son, so we could choose to love Him without condemnation or fear of punishment. It says in the Bible that it is His kindness that leads men to repentance. Not punishment.

Angelo, you miss the point. This country is founded on Christianity. The majority of our founding fathers were christians and were keenly aware that for this nation to succeed, God was to be invited to be our "King". Because of this, God has blessed this nation, believer and non believer alike. Remember, God loves all people, but only sheds His blessings where He is invited. America, like Israel or Afghanistan or Japan, is a people... a nation. Our nation started out as inviting Jesus Christ to be our Lord. Hence, "God shed His grace on thee". One need not be born-again to enjoy God's rainstorm of blessings, just be sure to been under the rain cloud. People of the world recognise we are blessed and risk life and limb to be under that "cloud".

Remember when King David of Israel brought the ark of God's presence back to Jerusalem, The Bible says that during the time that God's Presence was there and being celebrated and praised, that there was no war, no poverty, no sickness, and even the non-Hebrew people were blessed because of it. It is the same way here in America. Maybe, you are'nt a christian, but it is because Jesus is Lord over America that you enjoy this countries God given blessings and creativity.

<>Actually, America is the most prominent country ever founded on Christianity. God's blessing has been upon this land and as a result, America is responsible for most of the creations and inventions of benefit to the world at large. I believe it is because we are hooked up to the Creator. Just look at Moslem or Buddist or Hindu and pagan god societies. Have they contributed anything comparable in inventions to humanity? You may say "Well, look at Japan and electronics." However, Japan largely has taken American technology and improved or worked with it to bring their products to the world. Most of the beneficial inventions of humanity have come from America or christian Euroean countries. For example, the Gutenburg printing press. No, we would be doing these backward Moslem countries an eternal service by bringing christianity to them.

I know that some here will bring up the crusades and other christian blunders, but those were not justified by christian biblical teaching. They were men acting apart from the leading of The Holy Spirit.

We must not be ashamed to embrace our christian heritage as Americans. Because of that heritage, the world has greatly benefited.
