NASHVILLE — Sandra Dudley has moved on, free to worry about other toilets in other places. Dudley, you’ll remember, is the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation official who warned employees against flushing shoes down work toilets. TDEC officials are adamant the results of a recent employee engagement survey had nothing to do with Dudley’s departure. Dudley’s replacement — for a job that generally requires a professional engineer — has a background in journalism... [Snip]...

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee official most responsible for maintaining the quality of the state’s water and public works systems has to remind her own employees how to use a toilet. That includes a warning they’re not supposed to flush their shoes down the commode. Sandra K. Dudley, director of the Water Resources Division of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, sent an email Thursday warning employees about the perils of flushing a variety of not toilet-friendly objects while using the facilities at the department’s main offices in downtown Nashville, at the Tennessee Tower

Most people do not believe that complaining about water quality is an act of terrorism, but Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's (TDEC) Deputy Director Sherwin Smith isn't most people. Smith told a group of Maury County residents, on May 29, that baseless complaints about water quality could be considered an "act of terrorism," The Tennessean reported on Thursday. In an audio recording, Smith told the crowd: "We take water quality very seriously. Very, very seriously. But you need to make sure that when you make water quality complaints you have a basis, because federally, if there's no water quality...

The U.S. government is prepared to provide up to $10 billion in loans to finance the development of massive hydrocarbon reserves off Brazil’s coast, a Brazilian official said Wednesday. President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James Jones, discussed the matter with officials this week during a visit to the South American country, Brazilian Planning Minister Paulo Bernardo da Silva told reporters. He said the U.S. Export-Import Bank already has signed a letter of intent in that regard with Brazilian state oil company Petrobras...

As most of us know, we're not bailing out Wallstreet. We're bailing out the foreign Central Banks. Why everyone in high levels of Gov't is being untruthful about "the crisis" is beyond me. And the sad thing is that many in Gov't (junior Representatives) don't even know what's going on. But, you're about to. Here's my idea of what's REALLY going on with that "bailout": Foreign investors, particularly Government Central Banks, love to buy American debt (private and public), because in the past it's always been a good investment. The "Bad Paper" we keep hearing about was initially generated through...

(My comment) The site FiveThirtyEight uses a unique model to crunch the polling data from around the country...and they show McCain with an electoral college lead: Obama 266 - McCain 272.

Greta Van Susteren interviews Major General Craig E. Campbell, a longtime commander of the Alaska National Guard. Major General Campbell provides a description of what is required of a governor as head of a statewide national guard unit, and talks about Sarah Palin’s intense interest and commitment to the unit that she commanded, which made her an excellent Commander in Chief.

Enraged Fatah leaders on Saturday accused Hamas militiamen of looting the home of former Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat in Gaza City. "They stole almost everything inside the house, including Arafat's Nobel Peace Prize medal," said Ramallah-based Fatah spokesman Ahmed Abdel Rahman. "Hamas militiamen and gangsters blew up the main entrance to the house before storming it. They stole many of Arafat's documents and files, gifts he had received from world leaders and even his military outfits." ...

KUTTAWA, Ky. - The Courier Journal, at the behest of its columnist John David Dyche, has called for the removal of the Jefferson Davis statue in the rotunda of the Kentucky State Capitol. Such a supposedly politically correct viewpoint reflects a shallow, selective and even hypocritical understanding of history.

With each passing day, the macabre reality of death and destruction wrought upon the nation by the Palestinians is making one thing increasingly clear: something is dreadfully amiss with the way Israel is handling its affairs. Afflicted by an inexplicable impotence, the country is sliding inexorably into an abyss of self-annihilation. Israel´s continued restraint in dealing with the onslaught upon its citizens is rapidly become morally untenable. It is sending a clear message to both its Arab adversaries and the world at large: "Judacide" is tolerable - and hence morally acceptable - for if it were not, a far more...

Israel Radio reported this morning that Yasser Arafat's security forces moved swiftly in the Gaza Strip, arresting the Al Jazira Gaza correspondent who forwarded an announcement by Yasser Arafat's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades (the illegal military wing of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement) to his station taking credit for the Sunday Tel Aviv bombing that murdered 23. While Yasser Arafat's PA condemned the attack, Yasser Arafat's militia took responsibility for the attack, identifying the two bombers as Nablus residents Burak Hilsa and Samar A-Nuri. "The two martyrs managed to cross all the Zionist army roadblocks and reached the heart of Tel Aviv....

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A federal judge sentenced a 19-year-old Pakistani immigrant to 140 months in prison Thursday for plotting to blow up electrical power substations and a National Guard armory in south Florida. Imran Mandhai had pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas to one count of conspiracy to damage and destroy property with fire and explosives.
