"Vatican City’s walls allow the Vatican to save itself in order to hold tight to an invaluable culture that exports its generosity and charity and missionary work. Vatican City cannot take everyone in and survive. And it must remain Vatican City or be destroyed at the expense of all the incalculable good it does."

An Irishman named Diarmuid Martin says the Catholic Church in Ireland has reached a breaking point, a crisis that he says results from the sexual abuse of children by priests and the cover-up by the Church. Martin has provided tens of thousands of pages of evidence against specific priests, and his words and actions carry extraordinary weight. That's because Diarmuid Martin is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin. Bob Simon reports.

My DNC delegate uncle told me that the Stimulus bill was pretty much written by June 2008, mostly by a group headed up by Tom Daschle. Well, now I need citations for what I was told, ESPECIALLY the June 2008 timeline. Anyone have any ideas? I need to show where the Porkulus was never designed to be a "stimulus" but was instead sold as such when the economy tanked.

U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer's decision not to have town hall meeting fuels plans for rallies by Chris Gautz | Jackson Citizen Patriot Sunday August 09, 2009, 10:54 PM Members of Congress across the nation are getting lambasted over health-care reform, and U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer is no exception. Three protests, organized by the Jackson County Republican Party, are scheduled to take place outside his Jackson district office this month. The party's chief complaint is Schauer's decision not to have a town hall meeting this month. Schauer's office maintains he's more than available — he's had 17 town halls in the...

And, this person posted the impact on our energy grid. Anyone have any links on this information? Or, would I be lucky enough to find this Freeper?

Attention women: If you live in Michigan and you're a fan of Barack Obama then there's a big party being thrown today just for you. Well, assuming your name isn't Jennifer Granholm. The Ivory Tower reports this morning that the Barackstar's campaign is kicking off their official "Michigan Women for Obama" organization. Here's the trick... the headliner isn't Michigan's first female governor, one of the former "rising stars" of the national Democratic Party. It isn't that female governor who took so many folks by storm only four years ago at the Democratic National Convention. It isn't the woman who cleaned...

CLARK LAKE — As a lifelong Republican and former Republican prosecuting attorney, I am very disappointed in John McCain. In 2000, I voted for John McCain for president because he was an independent, nonpartisan Republican. I could not then tolerate George Bush because he clearly lacked the judgment and wisdom to be a president who could be respected around the world. Time has proven this to be true, to our national disgrace. By authorizing his staff to run television ads trying to link Sen. Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton smacks of desperation. We do not need another desperate...

Drudge was flashing "NOT PERFECT NY GIANTS TAKE SUPER BOWL LEAD" after the Giants scored their touchdown with less than a minute ago. Granted, it might've been over by then, but either 1) Drudge is a psychic, or 2) there is a 10-minute delay in broadcasting that Drudge doesn't have, or 3) Drudge's staff simply exercised bad judgment.

By Chad Livengood clivengood@citpat.com -- 768-4918 A recall effort against U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg is effectively over. Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge Harvey Koselka ruled today in favor of Walberg's lawsuit challenging the constitutional validity of the recall against him. "I don't think he won so much as the people lost, really," said James Carr of Jackson, a retired teacher who has led the recall campaign. Walberg's attorney sees victory differently. "This is a victory for the taxpayers of the 7th District," said Eric E. Doster, attorney for the Lansing firm Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith. The U.S. Constitution contains...

Walberg recall language approved By Chad Livengood The Lenawee County Elections Commission today approved the wording of a recall campaign against U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg. Jackson resident James Carr has 90 days to gather more than 50,000 valid signatures across the 7th District, said Lenawee County clerk LouAnn Bluntschly. An attorney for Walberg, R-Tipton, has said the recall effort violates the U.S. Constitution, which has no provision for recalling presidents, senators of representatives. If Carr can get the signatures and the Secretary of State approves the petitions, a recall election against Walberg would held in either February or May 2008....

Walberg subject of recall Thursday, July 19, 2007 By Chad Livengood clivengood@citpat.com -- 768-4918 A Jackson man has started a recall campaign against U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, six months after the Tipton Republican took office. James Carr, 77, filled a recall petition in Lenawee County, where Walberg is registered to vote as a Tipton resident, said County Clerk LouAnn Bluntschly. Carr submitted petition language earlier this month saying Walberg should be recalled because his support of the Iraq war is increasing the federal deficit. "I wanted to recall him the day he was elected, but you can't do that," Carr...

After firing a transgender professor in February, Spring Arbor University officials pulled out of a contract Wednesday to offer classes at Lansing Community College. LCC officials said Spring Arbor's actions of firing Professor Julie Nemecek violated the university's nondiscriminatory policy, which not only applies to students and staff, but also organizations that contract with them. In a letter to LCC Wednesday, Spring Arbor officials wrote, " ... we had been looking forward to becoming a member, it is clear from the language in the agreement that it would be inappropriate for us to do so and thereby relinquish many of...

LCC may yank SAU contract Tuesday, March 06, 2007 By Chad Livengood clivengood@citpat.com -- 768-4918 Lansing Community College may sever contractual ties with Spring Arbor University over its decision to fire a transgender professor. LCC officials say Spring Arbor's treatment of Julie Nemecek violates their nondiscrimination policy, which applies to students, faculty and organizations LCC contracts with. Spring Arbor is under contract to begin offering classes at LCC's new University Center in summer 2008. An LCC spokeswoman said the college would wait to render a decision against Spring Arbor after the outcome of a mediation session today between the local...
