  • Feminism has left middle-aged women like me single, childless and depressed

I increasingly feel that feminism has failed my generation. It is a peculiarity of the West that it is divided into sets which differ profoundly in their beliefs. This state of affairs began with the Reformation and has grown more pronounced ever since. There were Protestants and Catholics who differed fundamentally not only on faith but on practical matters. It was among Protestant communities that feminism first emerged, and it is in Protestant countries such as America and Britain in which feminist beliefs have been at their most vocal and strident in tone, like a religion with no dilution of...

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - On Thursday, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced a lawsuit against Sheetz, alleging the convenience store and gas chain of denying employment to a class of job application due to their race. The U.S. EEOC alleges that Sheetz has a practice of screening all applicants for records of criminal conviction and then denying them employment based on said record. The EEOC's charge claims that Sheetz disproportionally screened out applicants who are black, Native American, and multiracial.

JOHNSTOWN — Joe Burkhart is busy working at his job as a maintenance manager at a processor here in Cambria County. Like many people who have spent their career working with their hands, he knows that unexpected layoffs and companies who have been around for decades suddenly shuttering their doors is part of today’s technological revolution.Like many people around here born in the 1960’s, Burkhart says he was born and raised a Democrat. “Everyone in my family was a Democrat, its just what you did,” he said, adding when he first started looking for work as an adult being a...

This is very scary. Anywhere I stopped for more than a couple of minutes in the last few years is shown as a red dot on a world map. The level of detail is very creepy when you zoom in. I didn't recall being in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles or Seattle . . . but zoom in and I'm at the airport.

Canada's largest pension fund sold a stake in a New York building for $1. Crashing office values have led investors to turn cautious on the sector. Office buildings have suffered from the pandemic's work-from-home boom. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, the biggest pension in Canada, has completed a string of recent deals at discounted prices, including a sale of its stake in a New York building for $1, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.Commercial real estate concerns have escalated thanks to the pandemic's work-from-home boom and high interest rates in the wake of the Federal Reserve's inflation fight, and the gravest fears...

The payment company's CEO Alex Chriss told staff on Tuesday that another 9% of the workforce — about 2,500 positions — will be slashed. The news comes after PayPal said it would reduce its headcount by about 2,000 in January last year."We are doing this to right-size our business, allowing us to move with the speed needed to deliver for our customers and drive profitable growth," Chriss wrote in a memo. "At the same time, we will continue to invest in areas of the business we believe will create and accelerate growth." The cuts will come from current positions as...
  • How unpopular are return-to-office mandates? 99% of companies who had one saw a drop in employee satisfaction, study finds

Executives spent the better part of three years enticing, coaxing, cajoling, asking, and then finally demanding their employees return to the office. White-collar employees wanted the flexibility to work remotely, while companies decided coming to the office was non-negotiable, and lax suggestions to return to the office eventually became clear directives—even threats. In the latest example of the latter, Bank of America recently sent “letters of education” to workers who repeatedly skipped out on the office, warning them that a failure to come in within the next two weeks could lead to “further disciplinary action.” For as much as some...

  • Why Have Western Feminists Been So Slow to Condemn the Hamas Rapes?

    The Nation ^ | 15 December 2023 | Katha Pollitt
Israel’s war in Gaza is an atrocity. But we can deplore its actions while also condemning the atrocities perpetrated by Hamas. On October 7, Hamas fighters raped Israeli women and girls. Whatever may have been unknown in the immediate aftermath of the attack, the rapes are by now as substantiated as anything ever can be in an ongoing war. There is eyewitness testimony. There are reports from doctors and others who saw bodies of women who had been sexually abused. There are photographs. You have to be a conspiracist or rape denialist to dismiss all that as fabricated. And yet,...

Two Chicago suburbs rejected busloads of immigrants that arrived from El Paso, Texas, over the past week as the city and Illinois as a whole continue to face an influx of illegal immigrants from the southern border. Several buses arrived at the Metra stations in Cicero, Illinois, and Rosemont, Illinois, near the O'Hare International Airport's remote parking area, according to the Chicago Tribune. Rosemont police allowed the immigrants to get off the bus if there was someone picking them up, but officers threatened to impound the bus and arrest the driver for endangering the passengers if he let them out,...

Whistleblowers have accused senior officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation of retaliating against agents who express conservative or Christian beliefs by conducting unnecessary security clearance investigations, and in some cases, revoking their privileges. The allegations were made by at least three FBI agents in disclosures to the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month. According to the Washington Times, among those targeted were current employees who had any association with former agents who were interviewed for Dinesh D'Souza and Dan Bongino's recent film, Police State, which attempts to prove that the Democrats worked with FBI, CIA, and Justice Department officials to...

Freepers are the best and I need some information. My daughter has scored a big corporate promotion and isn't happy with the corporate agent assigned to help her and her family find a place to live/rent in SW Montgomery County, Maryland. There are websites that measure crime and most of them correlate quite well with voting patterns, which are easy to research. i.e. high concentration of Democrat voters = high crime. But as you know, Maryland is almost all blue, especially this part. Even if outside the target area by a little, we would appreciate guidance to where should be avoided...

We are thinking about staying in the Greenwood Village/Tech Center of Denver overnight on a road trip. Generally, I try to avoid Communist controlled cities, but there is a reason I need to be in southeast Denver briefly. I'd appreciate advice on avoiding the worst the city has to offer including traffic, crime and stoners.

There is all kinds of crap I need to overcome to get him enrolled in the local public school and I am not sure it is in his best interests anyway. A TikTok video showing a massive queue of people waiting to attend a McDonald’s job fair has gone viral, highlighting the difficulty of finding work. The video, posted by user cshibz on July 28, shows a long line of people stretching down the street outside the St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centre in Kitchener, Ontario, where the fast-food chain was holding a hiring event. The on-screen caption reads, “When you come for a McDonalds job fair and there’s like 300 people lined up down the street.” She continues: “Its literally impossible to find a job here! This was...

Happiness is a difficult thing to measure, but one initiative at the United Nations has been trying to figure it out. Every year since 2012, the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network has published its World Happiness Report—a study that examines the connections between happiness and development, all while encouraging policymakers to place more of an emphasis on the former. Around 1,000 people in each U.N. member state rate their quality of life on a scale from 0 to 10, while researchers cull data from six areas: GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support, trust and corruption, perceived freedom to make...

The return to in-office work has not gone well. As detailed by Entrepreneur, companies that have forced workers back into the office are currently facing a litany of issues ranging from employee dissatisfaction to difficulty hiring. “Unispace finds that nearly half (42%) of companies that mandated office returns witnessed a higher level of employee attrition than they had anticipated,” writes author Gleb Tsipursky. “And almost a third (29%) of companies enforcing office returns are struggling with recruitment.” For the companies who are considering returning to the office, the outlook isn’t great. “According to the same Greenhouse report, a staggering 76%...
