In the aftermath of Herman Cain’s stunning victory in the Florida Straw Poll, much has been written and spoken by the so-called “experts” trying to explain this unexpected turn of events. Even though none of these “experts” predicted a Cain win, or even considered it a possibility, they feel uniquely qualified to explain an event they never saw coming. Put another way, the “experts” were caught off guard, blind-sided, and were in need of a quick score. I decided to share my experience in the hope of shining some light on what happened, how it happened, and offer an explanation...

I've been given a ceramic flowerpot by my boss, and she says it was her mother's and may be worth something. It is ceramic with a relief of snoopy and a sunflower. Bottom printing list copyright as 1958 but I doubt the pot is that old. Unfortunately I think this is the only one she didn't throw away. Anyway I have googled alot and cannot find it anywhere to try and ascertain it's rarity or value. Any FReepers know anything about this type of thing?

Dear Friend of Wildlife, "It's the most important wildlife conservation legislation in history," said John Kostyack, NWF's wildlife policy expert. "Really?" Could this new global warming bill--the Climate Security Act--truly be as big as the Endangered Species Act...or the Clean Water Act...or the Clean Air Act? If so, how? "Well" said John, "Global warming has the potential to wipe out all of the conservation victories of the last century." Endangered wildlife on the road to recovery could face new challenges as global warming alters their habitat and way of life. Waters that we once fought to protect could dry up...

WASHINGTON — It is against the law for a candidate for federal office to take political contributions from foreigners. But a potential "loophole" could help at least one high-profile candidate in the 2008 presidential race: It is perfectly legal for a candidate for federal office to use personal income earned in foreign countries — or personal income earned by a spouse in foreign countries. The New York senator has access not only to her own wealth, but also to the bankroll of her wealthy husband, former President Bill Clinton, who has capitalized greatly on his résumé since leaving office in...

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A woman and her sister had to go to the hospital after a bartender mistakenly dipped their martini glasses in a caustic substance used to clean the restaurant's fryer. A Simple Thank You Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home. No, he responded. Heading out I asked? No. I'm escorting a soldier home. Going to pick him up? No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq. I'm taking him home to his family. The realization of what...
