Even at MSNBC, which gets crushed of course by Fox News in every prime-time slot, Cenk Uygur manages to come in dead last in ratings among his liberal peers. So when Cenk claims that he covers Donald Trump not because he wants to--suggesting he'd rather be reporting on Pawlenty/Romney's latest doings--the baloney-meter starts screaming. View video here.

One more sign the Age of Civility is over: an MSNBC host urging Dems to be more "vicious" toward Republicans. Oh, and to engage in more "name-calling." Apparently writing off any career ambitions of succeeding to the Miss Manners slot, Cenk Uygur issued his recommendations last night in the course of disagreeing with a Dem congressman who was insufficiently coarse for Cenk's taste. Q. How does a liberal describe giving seniors choice over their health care coverage? A. Murder. On Cenk Uygur's MSNBC show this evening, Jonathan Alter claimed that in proposing to issue Medicare vouchers, Republicans want "to throw granny into the snow." For good measure, Cenk came out in favor of the "Robin Hood" approach to taxation--robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. View video here.

Cenk Uygur can't figure out why accused Army leaker Bradley Manning isn't being treated like a "hero". Seriously. [snip] On his MSNBC show this evening, Cenk whined as to why Manning isn't being accorded the "hero" treatment that Daniel Ellsberg received from some for his leak of the Pentagon Papers back in the Vietnam day. There's an old saw that every time a senator looks in the mirror, he sees a president. Could the same be true of MSNBC hosts? Twice tonight on his TV show, Cenk Uygur fantasized himself as president. We all know that since Barack Obama was elected, dissent has gone from being the highest form of patriotism, as those liberal bumper-stickers liked to remind us, to being downright unpatriotic, as we've chronicled here and here. Robert Reich has now added another item to the list of things that are unpatriotic: resenting higher taxes if you're rich. Not that Cenk Uygur has to worry. He has classified himself as "one of us," rather than a member of "the rich." But can that be right? The interesting dialogue went down on Uygurs's MSNBC show last evening. View video here.

On Cenk Uygur's MSNBC show this evening, Bernie Sanders, the socialist senator from Vermont who caucuses with the Dems, claimed that rich Americans "have not contributed one nickel to deficit reduction." Cenk of course failed to challenge Sander's certifiably silly assertion. View video here.

On his MSNBC show this evening, Cenk Uygur argued in favor of decriminalizing marijuana since, 74 years after the feds made it illegal, people continue to smoke it, or as Cenk put it, the War on Drugs is unwinnable. Yo, Cenk: Cain killed Abel more than 5,000 years ago. Murder has been illegal ever since, and yet people continue to commit it. By that logic, since the War on Homicide is also unwinnable, should we decriminalize murder? Be sure to view the video here. January 20, 2009 Latest evidence: on his MSNBC show this evening, Cenk Uygur suggested that opposition to President Obama's Libya policy is "unpatriotic." Do people's politics color their views on the issues, even on life-and-death ones like war? Yeah. Happens on all sides. But for Cenk Uygur to rip Republicans for having supported Pres. Bush on Iraq while criticizing Pres. Obama on Libya is nothing short of grotesque . . . given that Uygur now supports Obama on Libya, while when it came to Iraq and its aftermath he wanted W . . . imprisoned for at least ten years. Adding fuel to the bonfire of Uygur's hypocrisy is his failure to mention that as a senator-cum-presidential-candidate, Obama himself laid out a doctrine...

Wouldn't blame you for doubting this, so fantastical is the proposition. But Cenk Uygur has claimed that given the chance, unborn babies would oppose restrictions on their mothers' right to abort them. Cenk made his grotesque suggestion in the course of discussing an Ohio bill that would forbid abortions as soon as a baby's heartbeat can be detected. Robert Reich has actually argued that the rich should welcome redistributing more of their income to prevent an angry American populace from turning on them. Every day at his Best of the Web at the Wall Street Journal online, Taranto turns out an original, often unconventional, conservative take on the news, managing to leaven it with humor. Rush today rightly extolled Taranto's column of yesterday, in which he made the point that there is a vast, inherent difference between private and public sector unions. In the former case, unions are negotiating against corporate interests. In the latter, unions are, by definition, organizing against the interests of the public itself. Surely even Cenk Uygur understands this. So when...

MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur sat down with news magazine AlterNet to talk about MSNBC, Fox News, and his web show “The Young Turks.” Uygur described the difference between the web and MSNBC — where he was named a contributor and substitute anchor in October 2010.
