I admit it. It was a cliche´ of a headline, but I opted to use it anyway to announce news that Democrat Charlie Wilson, a long-time Congressman from Texas' 2nd District, has died at 76 in his hometown of Lufkin, Texas.

AUSTIN -- Faculty members at the University of Texas are objecting to plans to create an endowed chair in Pakistan studies in honor of former U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson, the colorful Democrat who was portrayed in last year's movie ``Charlie Wilson's War.''

If you were to ask the average American where Al-Qaeda came from you'd probably be met with a blank stare; not surprising considering the current quality of American education. If you were to ask a slightly better informed American the same question there's a pretty good likelihood that you'd hear that the US helped create them in Afghanistan in the 1980's.
