I ran across a couple of documents relative to the meaning of Natural Born Citizen, a concept that was a matter of serious discussion in recent presidential elections. The first of these were 1783 notes by Thomas Jefferson on the meaning of "natural subjects", i.e., when people fit the definition of natural subjects of a country and when they did not. Jefferson’s notes were in part to answer the status of a lady’s son with respect to whether he could inherit property in England. The second item I found was a 1790 US law that defines people born outside of...

Hope. Change. Jihad. Iyman Faris, 49, was sentenced in 2003 for aiding and abetting al-Qaida by scoping out the iconic New York bridge as a part of a plot to cut through the cables supporting the structure. He had met with Osam bin Laden in Afghanistan and worked with 9/11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. Faris is set to be released on Dec. 23, 2020, but a court filing last year in a U.S. District Court argued that Faris lied on immigration papers and that his terrorist affiliations demonstrated a lack of commitment to the Constitution.

A B.C. father is blaming Canada's citizenship rules for keeping his kids separated from him and his home country. Patrick Chandler was stunned to learn despite being a Canadian citizen, he wasn’t able to pass on his citizenship to his four-year-old and nine-year-old children, who were born in China while he was working there. He attempted to bring his kids to Canada but was stopped at the last minute by Canadian officials. “(The worker) starts stamping the documents and says at the very last second, ‘Oh wait a second. You weren’t born in Canada and neither was your daughter. We...

Alabama has reportedly filed a lawsuit challenging the federal government’s practice of counting undocumented immigrants in its official Census Bureau population counts. The state filed a lawsuit in federal court Monday arguing that the new census numbers for 2020 will result in Alabama losing a congressional seat and a vote in the Electoral College to a state with a bigger “illegal alien population,” according to the Associated Press. The state of Alabama and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) are the plaintiffs in the suit. Citizens and noncitizens with a residence in the U.S. are included in official census and apportionment counts.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is leading a multistate lawsuit to block the Trump administration from adding a question about citizenship to the 2020 Census. The 54-page complaint filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York was brought by 16 other states, Washington, D.C., six cities and the bipartisan United States Conference of Mayors. In announcing the lawsuit Tuesday in New York City, Schneiderman called the citizenship question dangerous and damaging. “This is a blatant effort to undermine the Census and prevent the Census Bureau from carrying out its clear constitutional mandate,” he...

It's a federal crime not to answer census questions or to give false information. But here's why you shouldn't worry about being prosecuted. Article I, Section 2, of the Constitution requires the enumeration of people in the U.S. every 10 years for the purpose of apportioning congressional representatives. The "Census Clause" also requires that representatives be apportioned among the states "according to their respective Numbers." Federal law provides that anyone who refuses to answer or willfully neglects to answer any of the questions in connection with any census or survey shall be fined a maximum of $100, or a maximum...

A Utah police officer who was being attacked on Friday was saved by a passerby with a concealed pistol, officials said. The unidentified police officer confronted the attacker, identified as Paul Douglas Anderson, after spotting feet dangling from a donation bin in Springville, FOX13 Salt Lake City reported on Saturday. Judge Tanya S. Chutkan of the US District Court for the District of Columbia required the department to give the American Civil Liberties Union access to the unnamed detainee to determine if he wants the advocacy group or a court-appointed attorney to challenge his detention. Last month, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit requesting that the man be given access to counsel and demanding that the Trump administration justify his continued detention without charges. The Justice Department says the ACLU has no standing to sue because the group has not proved that the individual wants it to sue...

America deserves much better than the jealousy-driven, dirt-digging, gossip-monger called Arizona Senator John McCain Following in the footsteps of his outgoing leader President Barack Hussein Obama, Senator John McCain is trying to plaster the sudden status of ‘citizenship’ as his end all and be all. In his ‘GoodBye but I’m still here’ Farewell speech on Tuesday, Obama proclaimed that now that he’s one himself, citizenship is the strongest pillar of democracy. McCain, who admitted yesterday it was he who passed the dirty dossier of claims of a Russian blackmail plot against president elect Donald J. Trump was only doing ‘what...

Someday soon there’ll be a harpy, hippie-looking guy who bears a striking resemblance to that citizen whose real name has always been Barry Soetoro, ‘King Citizen’, screaming at us in protest The Greeks gave us the Trojan horse, President Barack Hussein Obama, what he thinks all will buy as a shiny, new pony. This pony’s aways been there, but Obama is taking credit for having discovered it: Citizenship.

The latest story about an NFL player and a flag began Tuesday morning just after 11, in the great hall of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Frances Perkins building. All 45 candidates for naturalization held miniature American flags as they sat in plastic chairs and listened to government officials deliver paeans to the power of immigration. Those included the first two candidates in the front row, perhaps the smallest and the biggest of the 45. There was tiny Dahlia Lyons, a native of the Philippines and the only military spouse in the ceremony. And next to her was the 6-foot-5...
