"There are several reasons why Obama’s executive action on immigration has put Republicans in a terrible bind. There’s the fact that conservatives are likely to respond by demanding a hardline position from the party’s 2016 nominee, torpedoing his or her electability. There’s the growing risk that conservative anger will force Republicans to do something epically stupid in the near term, like shut down the government...."

The Partnership for a New American Economy today launched a new ad campaign calling on Congress to act on immigration reform this year. (SNIP) The ad will premiere tonight at the PNAE, FWD.us, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce event, “#iCodeImmigration: Accelerating Immigration Reform,” in Washington DC, featuring Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL-25) and Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC-5).

Immigration Law Is Broken? I wasn’t clear how I would ask this question because it can be misunderstood. Is it better to make this statement, The Immigration Law is Broken. Or Is it better to ask this question, Is the Immigration Law is Broken? I hear the president and others in government using the expression, immigration laws are broken and therefore in need of reform. Comprehensive reform as they express it. This creates a conundrum because when I read the law I don’t see anything broken. What does appear to be broken is the enforcement of the Immigration laws....

President Obama gave a passionate, moving speech last night (full text here) and made a powerful appeal to our emotions on behalf of illegal immigrants. And it might make us feel good to abandon the law in the name of compassion. But what about the facts? Alas, as politicians are known to do, he veered ever so slightly from the Natural Truth. Here are three "If you like your doctor" moments: DEPORTATIONS WAY UP? Even as we are a nation of immigrants, we are also a nation of laws. Undocumented workers broke our immigration laws, and I believe that they...

AUSTIN, Texas -- "It's a very real possibility" that the state of Texas would file a lawsuit to block President Barack Obama's plan to enact sweeping immigration reforms by executive order, said Texas Governor Rick Perry in a speech at the Republican Governors Association's (RGA) annual meeting in Boca Raton, Florida on Wednesday. Obama is scheduled to unveil his plans in a prime time speech on Thursday evening, to allow millions of illegal immigrants to avoid deportation by what is known as "deferred action," a move that was also strongly opposed by the other Republican Governors at the meeting, leading...

Reps. Ted Poe (R-Texas) and Diane Black (R-Tenn.) have introduced legislation to prohibit funding to implement President Obama's executive action on immigration. Their bill, titled The Separation of Powers Act, would block the use of funds for deferring deportations of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally or providing work permits. Poe said the legislation would reinforce the constitutional principle of checks and balances. "This legislation will allow Congress to exercise its 'check' on an out-of-control White House that treats the Constitution as a mere suggestion, not the law of the land," Poe said. Black said the measure could be one...

Lie #1: Every President has Taken Executive Action on Immigration: No other president has ever issued an amnesty of anywhere near this scope, created it out of thin air, or built it upon a prior executive action instead of a statute. And in the case of President Eisenhower, his executive action was to deport 80,000 illegal immigrants. Lie #2: Illegal Immigrant Crossings are Down: Actually, this is the third straight year that border crossings have gone up, not to mention the entirely new wave from Central America. Lie #3: It does not grant citizenship or the right to stay here...

Amnesty: Pundits warn that a funding fight over the president's move to grant de facto amnesty to illegal aliens threatens a politically risky government shutdown. But there's something much more important at stake here. The Founders had good reason to give Congress the power of the purse: Short of impeachment, it's the most effective way to stop a lawless president from disobeying the will of Congress and usurping powers not granted by the Constitution. The question is: Will Congress use this power to thwart President Obama's shredding of the Constitution with his executive amnesty plan? Incoming Senate Budget Committee Chairman...

The Supreme Court may have sided with Hobby Lobby in its case against the Obama administration over the pro-abortion HHS mandate, but one leading pro-life group says the Obama administration’s religious discrimination continues.Defending the First Amendment conscience rights of Americans, Americans United for Life filed two amicus curiae (friend-of-the-court) briefs today in the Fifth and Eighth Circuits challenging the Obama Administration’s anti-life edicts in Obamacare.“Despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s clear directives favoring freedom of conscience in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, the Obama Administration has doubled down on its coercive, anti-life policies, refusing to respect the beliefs of those who do...

Aside from the pouting and lawsuits that won't amount to anything, nothing is going to happen to stop Obama's decree on immigration. Why? Because, as RINOS, McConnell and Boehner want what Obama wants. They really don't give a hoot about this, but to console their base, they feel obliged to step out and shake their fists. This is just an attempt to shut-up those extreme TEA party types. That's all that's gonna happen here. What do you think?

There are soon to be thirty-five Republican governors. What prevents them from exercising Prosecutorial Discretion and simply ignore Obama’s executive order?

Dana Perino, the Fox News co-cost and former spokeswoman for George W. Bush's White House, said that President Barack Obama's executive amnesty is well within the law. She admitted on Thursday's The Five that though she "might be an outlier on this," she believed "Republicans are really boxed in" on Obama's amnesty. "I don’t think that we’ll have the answer to the constitutional question for years," she said. "And at this point, I think the President has the prosecutorial discretion to do what he’s doing.” Hours before Obama formally announced his executive amnesty, Perino said Republicans "cannot stop the President...

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas leaders are united in opposition and ready to battle President Barack Obama over his unilateral attempt to protect millions of illegal immigrants from being deported. In a televised speech to the nation Thursday evening, Obama announced he was issuing a series of executive orders to enact immigration reform, and will likely soon face a lawsuit from the State of Texas, as well as other states with Republican leadership. As Breitbart Texas reported, Obama declared that he would be taking "actions that I have the legal authority to take as President" that would liberalize the rules for...

As “Emperor Obama”—to cite a title applied to Barack Obama by House Speaker John Boehner, Senator Jeff Sessions, and others—proceeds with his plan to trample the Constitution by issuing an Executive Order on amnesty for illegals, perhaps it’s worth looking back to see how the authors of the Constitution might have reacted to such a crisis. The short answer is that the Founders worried about presidential power-grabbing, and so wrote a proper response into the Constitution. However, the longer answer is that Emperor Obama might be setting in motion a process that actually undermines the Constitution. Although he was defeated...

It might take a little political jujitsu to pull it off, but Barack Obama may have inadvertently opened the door for Republicans to move forward in their incremental approach to immigration reform. Until now, Obama and his fellow Democrats have argued that the humanitarian aspects of the current illegal immigrants in the US demanded a comprehensive solution rather than a deliberative and sequential strategy that could make sure that one piece worked before adding another to the mix. Republicans are pushing back hard on Obama’s declaration of executive amnesty last night, but it might have removed the argument for...

It doesn't matter what you think of Mark Reckless. It doesn't even matter what you think of UKIP. Whether you love them or hate them their victory last night in the Rochester and Strood by-election was a victory for (almost) all of us. Let me explain why by way of reference to two characters who embody almost everything wrong with our current political class.

WASHINGTON — Republicans predictably came down hard on President Obama’s address announcing his immigration executive order, with House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) vowing to “work with our members and protect the Constitution.” How they were planning to funnel their outrage into legislative or judicial action was less clear. “First, we’ll build on our progress at the border with additional resources for our law enforcement personnel so that they can stem the flow of illegal crossings, and speed the return of those who do cross over,” Obama said in the White House’s Cross Hall during the primetime address. “Second, I’ll make...

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced Thursday evening that he is filing a lawsuit against President Barack Obama for the executive action he is taking on immigration. [snip] “He speaks a good game and I understand where he’s coming from in a way. On the other hand, let’s not con the American public. How are we going to keep track of these 5 million people?” Arpaio said.[snip]rpaio stated that his lawyer was filing the lawsuit following Obama’s speech and that no taxpayer funds will be used in the lawsuit. “We have to understand whether this is constitutional or not, whether...
