Most Texans are not accustomed to freezing weather like they have up North. And, this winter has been a rough one all over the nation; even in Texas. Today, it's colder than a well digger's butt here in Southeast Texas (Wind chill has to be in the 20s). And, tomorrow is going to be worse. FORECAST FOR PRIMARY DAY: Rain with a "high" of 43 in Houston; wind chill in 30s, and a "high" of 30 (below the freezing mark and wind chill in mid 20s) for Dallas. WHY IS THIS BAD NEWS FOR CORNYN? It's a known fact that...

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, facing a field of GOP primary candidates running at him mainly from the right, set the bar low for next Tuesday’s election, telling Texas reporters that his main goal is to avoid a runoff. “My goal is to win the election without a runoff, and I think we’ll achieve that goal,” he said in a phone conference Wednesday. He added: “I realize runoffs are a unique animal unto themselves, and my goal is to win without a runoff, and of course I’ll enjoy every vote I get above that.” Cornyn reminded the press corps that he’s...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The sniping between establishment Republicans and tea partyers resumed Thursday as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz refused to endorse his state's senior senator in next week's Republican primary. Sen. John Cornyn, the Senate's second-ranking Republican leader, faces tea party-backed Rep. Steve Stockman in Tuesday's election. Cruz declined to tell reporters how he plans to vote "I am not supporting any of the senators from my party or their opponents" in this year's primaries, Cruz said, adding that he might change his mind later. Cruz, a tea party favorite and potential 2016 presidential candidate, has infuriated fellow Republicans by...

These results come from a telephone poll conducted by Gravis Marketing between 2/10/14 and 2/12/14. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, spoke to students of KIPP San Antonio's University Prep high school during a short visit Friday and told them the most difficult part of his job is his schedule. Trying to organize fellow Republicans in Texas might be a bit tougher. Fellow Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has not publicly endorsed him for re-election. "This is all more or less to be expected and it's manageable, but I hope after the primary is over we can all come together and be unified, because then we're much more likely to be successful," said Cornyn. "The Republican...

United States Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) enters the final weeks of his reelection campaign with the backing of one of the nation's largest business lobbies. The senior senator from Texas received the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Friday morning. "There's so much uncertainty about the policies emanating from Washington, D.C., whether it has to do with regulations or whether it has to do with taxes or whether it's new burdens that are placed on employers like Obamacare," Cornyn told media and supporters at the Austin headquarters of the Texas Association of Business. Cornyn faces renewed criticism by some...

New rankings of lawmakers’ votes show that that Sen. John Cornyn ranks as more conservative among senators than Rep. Steve Stockman ranks in the House, despite the latter’s contention that Cornyn is too liberal: How they rank: National Journal, a public-policy magazine, ranked all members of Congress on a conservative/liberal scale based on votes on key legislation in 2013. Cornyn ranked the 14th-most conservative of the 100 senators. Stockman ranked 138th among the 435 House members. He was behind all but two of the 24 Texas Republicans and in the middle of all House Republicans. How it works: The particular...

Bad news for John Cornyn: Early voting down in Texas. Low turnout always benefits the "crawl over glass" Conservatives and die-hards. The first day of voting in Harris County (Houston) Texas was 15,000; and that includes the all mail in ballots that had been received. Now, this total includes those who voted in the Democrat Primary as well as the GOP Primary. You can figure only 50% of the votes were GOP (This is Houston after all.) That's worse news for Cornyn. Only 7,000 GOP in person, and mail, votes in Harris County the first day???? Wow! On the two...

Nothing captures the political impact of Ted Cruz’s ascension in American politics like a comparison of public sentiment toward him and fellow Sen. John Cornyn in the wake of last month’s government shutdown. Cornyn’s ratings in the electoral sweet spot where conservatives and Tea Party Republicans overlap have fallen at the same time as Cruz’s have risen. With the shutdown behind him, Cruz’s net favorability (his favorable rating minus his unfavorable rating) among Tea Party Republicans in Texas has risen from +85 to +90, while Cornyn’s have fallen from +38 to +5, according to University of Texas/Texas Tribune polling. While...

It’s the epic GOP primary that wasn’t. Tea party activists hoped to oust Texas Sen. John Cornyn this year in an early-March contest that could have burnished their credibility heading into the midterms. Instead, Cornyn’s best-known challenger, Rep. Steve Stockman, has gone missing on the campaign trail, dogged by unflattering stories about his past and his ethics. It’s a disappointment for many national political watchers who had pulled out the popcorn for this race. Stockman has a penchant for making inflammatory statements — one of his bumper stickers read: “If babies had guns they wouldn’t be aborted.” In December, he...

The campaign for Dwayne Stovall, Texas candidate for U.S. Senate, brings attention to the voting record of Sen. John Cornyn. Sen. Cornyn votes for unconstitutional legislation and then attempts to mislead Texans about his votes. This is part of an ongoing series of press releases exposing the Congressional Record of Senator Cornyn. Stovall said in a statement, “Senator Cornyn betrays the trust of Texans who sent him to Washington. He voted ‘YEA’ on the FY 2013 FUNDING BILL (March 23, 2013) that gave the Obama Administration the money needed to implement Obamacare. Subsequently, he also voted ‘YEA’ on ‘CLOTURE’ (September...

Dwayne Stovall, a Tea Party candidate challenging Senator John Cornyn for his seat in the United States Senate, has brought the controversial aspects of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into the primary race. Stovall is not alone in challenging Senator Cornyn in the primary; U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman is also in the primary, but his chances have been severely damaged by the candidate's decision to remain quiet in light of numerous ethics and financial questions. Breitbart News has provided our readers with the first look into the Stovall campaign press release, sent to us on January 25, 2014. The...

A dozen members of the Texas congressional delegation reaped state retirement benefits while collecting their federal paychecks over the last two years — a much higher rate than other states’ lawmakers. Thirty-five percent of the 34-member delegation reported dipping into state pension funds in 2012 or 2011, according to recently filed financial disclosure forms. That is nearly twice the one-fifth of all members of Congress members who reported drawing public retirement benefits last year, according to an analysis by the National Journal released Friday. Texas Sen. John Cornyn dipped into three retirement funds in 2010 — more than any other...

I heard, here on FR, yesterday that Farm Bureau had endorsed John Cornyn for Senator. I had it confirmed this morning. I called and left a message on the phone line to the office from which the endorsements come. I told them that I had 2 houses and 3 cars insured with Farm Bureau (which is the truth) and I did not appreciate my insurance premiums being used to help reelect one of the most Liberal Republicans in Washington, D.C., John Cornyn. I told them I would be cancelling my policies. You don't have to threaten to cancel your policies,...

Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tx.) loves to heap praise for his buddy, Karl Rove, a GOP Establishment political operative, who is calling for Republicans to play nice with Hillary Clinton. Cornyn has described Rove as "my friend for a long time." Rove explained that Sen. Cornyn is a true friend of the liberal elite in Washington D.C. Rove is quoted as saying that, “His colleagues like him a...
