Former World Wresting Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon won the formal endorsement of the Connecticut Republican Party on Friday night at the state’s GOP convention, however former Rep. Rob Simmons has decided he will challenge her on the August primary ballot. McMahon’s victory came as the result of a massive delegate shift after the final round of balloting in which she picked up most of the delegates who supported anti-tax activist Peter Schiff, who came in third behind Simmons. Simmons secured enough votes to appear on the August ballot and he had decided to pursue the primary nomination, even though he...

Connecticut's Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is taking heavy fire for a series of statements he made over several years in which he either explicitly or implicitly claimed to be a Vietnam veteran, when in fact he is not. His defense is that he misspoke - using the word "in" instead of "during" the war, according to a spokesman. This implies that he repeatedly made an innocent and unconscious mistake. But anyone watching the video of him in 2008, touching his heart when he earnestly says "we have learned something very important since the days that I served in Vietnam,"...

Blumenthal told truth on same day he fibbed Now this sheds a bit more light on the Richard Blumenthal mess. The Associated Press has now obtained a longer version of the 2008 video that surfaced yesterday showing Blumenthal making a speech and fibbing about his military service, leading to a huge forestorm. In the same speech, he also describes his service accurately, saying he served in the Marine Corps "during the Vietnam era." In other words, he got it right before he misrepresented it:

By Christopher Keating on May 18, 2010 8:17 PM | Permalink | Comments (4) The Cook Political Report - one of the most highly respected, non-partisan national analyses - is now saying that the U.S. Senate race in Connecticut is a toss-up. The change for the report comes on the day that The New York Times published a front-page story and released a video that shows that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said that he served in Vietnam when he did not. The change in the rating for the race is a major turnaround from the conventional wisdom, which placed Blumenthal...

Connecticut attorney general Dick Blumenthal (D) has seen his double-digit lead over former wrestling CEO Linda McMahon (R) collapse in the wake of the New York Times expose on his self-professed "misstatements" about his military record. A new Rasmussen poll of the race, taken Tuesday night -- about 24 hours after the Times story broke -- shows Blumenthal ahead by a margin of 48-45. The last Rasmussen poll of that matchup, taken May 4, showed Blumenthal decimating McMahon by a margin of 52-39. In the new poll, Blumenthal's lead over the other two Republicans in the primary race -- Rep....

In this March 2, 2008 video, current Connecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal (D) touts his service in the Vietnam war. However, the New York Times reports: At a ceremony honoring veterans and senior citizens who sent presents to soldiers overseas, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut rose and spoke of an earlier time in his life. "We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam," Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. "And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it, Afghanistan or Iraq -- we...

Did attorney general and senate hopeful Richard Blumenthal ever serve in Vietnam? Well, no. But according to The New York Times, Blumenthal is suggesting the opposite. Blumenthal also claims he served as the Captain of the Harvard swim team, despite records at the college showing that he was never on the team. “We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Blumenthal said to a group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. But Blumehthal according to the Times, obtained five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took steps to avoid going to war. “In 1970,...

Hartford Tea Party, One Year Latter, February 27th, 2010. Sucessful, yet PUSHBACK must continue. A year ago about 150 people showed up for the first Connecticut Tea Party in front of the Capitol Building. Just few months later more than 3000 made their way to the capitol and the movement in New England took off. Yesterday 300 turned out for the one year anniversary of the people’s movement, in part to let the representatives know we’re still around, and in part to celebrate the achievements of young and growing grass roots movement.

Greenwich cable television entrepreneur Ned Lamont will officially announce Tuesday morning that he is running for governor. The announcement will be made at the Old State House in downtown Hartford, which is the same site where Lamont launched his candidacy against U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman. Lamont is best known for defeating Lieberman in the August 2006 primary, but he lost three months later in a three-way race in the general election. Lieberman pulled 50 percent, while Lamont had 40 percent and Republican Alan Schlesinger scored only 10 percent. One of the key factors was the state's Republican establishment failed...

Retard-gate is growing, apparently, and it's coming to the Connecticut Senate race over the mistreatment of a developmentally disabled wrestling character that Senate candidate Linda McMahon's entertainment company created in 2004. For those of you unaware, wrestling queen Linda McMahon, former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, is running for the Senate in Connecticut against conservative Rob Simmons. As it happens, starting in 2004 McMahon's wrestling shows once featured what was presented as a mentally handicapped wrestler who was stage named "Eugene." Through the course of this character’s story arc he was savagely beaten in a "cage match," and was regularly...

The Doddering Old PartyIs there a Scott Brown hiding out in Connecticut? Call him “Senator.†Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut’s attorney general, beats his Republican opponents — Rob Simmons, Linda McMahon, and Peter Schiff — by 20 points in Rasmussen Reports’ latest poll. BY ANDREW LARSON REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN WOLCOTT — It happened in Massachusetts. Could it happen here? In light of last week's election of Scott P. Brown, a little-known Republican state senator, to fill the U.S. Senate seat held for decades by the late Edward Kennedy, that's a question GOP leaders and political hopefuls in Connecticut want to answer in the affirmative. No one has pondered the question as deeply as Brown's younger brother, Wolcott resident Bruce W. Browne, 43. Browne, who declined to say why he spells his last name differently, may try to follow his brother's lead. Last Tuesday, Republicans and...
