Now that Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett has proclaimed that jail inmates will be called “residents” from here on out, so as not to stigmatize and dehumanize them, we have a few humble renaming suggestions for him to consider. After all, why stop there? As Rep. Sheila Stubbs said, it’s “critical that we recognize people as decent people and as citizens.” Even people accused of heinous things like battery and sexual assault, apparently. And even those who aren’t, you know, actually citizens.

A newly-released YouGov survey shows that the vast majority of Danes are vehemently opposed to a Donald Trump presidency. Of the seven nationalities surveyed in the Eurotracker survey, Danes were the least optimistic about how Trump would do in the White House. Only one percent of Danish respondents said that Trump would be “a great president” if elected and only an additional two percent think he would be “good”. A full 73 percent think he would be “terrible” while another 14 percent said he would do a “poor” job. …

Running, riding bikes and even walking had always been a challenge for 11-year-old Bella Burton due to a rare genetic condition she was diagnosed with when she was 2 and a half. MADISON, Wis. -- Prosecutors on Friday charged a former Wisconsin sheriff's deputy suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease with shooting his wife and sister-in-law to death this month. Former Dane County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Steele, 39, faces two counts of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his wife, Ashlee Steele, and his sister-in-law, Kacee Tollefsbol of Lake Elmo, Minn. Madison - The state Supreme Court on Thursday declined - for now - to take up lower court orders blocking Wisconsin's voter ID law, the latest sign the law likely will not be in place for the Nov. 6 presidential election. A prosecutor asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday to reopen his lawsuit challenging Gov. Scott Walker's contentious collective bargaining law, contending a justice who voted to dismiss the suit earlier this year got free legal help from the firm defending the law.
