The weaponization of Maryland’s red flag law by a county official in a long-running personal dispute with a local resident could be the beginning of the end for red flag laws across the land. Donald Willey, assisted and joined by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), filed a lawsuit (Willey v. Brown) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland’s Northern Division on Tuesday, an action brought against not only the local county official who had it in for Willey, but the county sheriff who assisted her and the state’s attorney general.

Aerial flood maps of Britain are revealing more than just at-risk regions - they have also led to the discovery of several Roman roads. Amateur archaeologists have been able to use the flood-mapping technology to trace the paths of Roman roads which have remained buried under the land for some 1,600 years. The aerial flood maps were created by aircraft equipped with laser scanners which measure the distance between the aircraft and the ground. Using light detection and ranging (Lidar) technology, the Environment Agency was able to detect the areas of Britain which are most at risk of flooding. The...

Republican presidential candidates travel far and wide to meet with casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson, seeking out his generous support. Not as many people talk about the other person in the room — his wife. In the late 1980s, Miriam Ochshorn was living in New York. Already a successful Israeli doctor, she had come to the United States for a fellowship in addiction medicine in 1986. She was divorced, and the mother of two daughters. One day, she got a call from a childhood friend, who was also now living in the United States. The friend, Sara Aronson, had just run...

BOSTON - APRIL 8: Camille Lerner, 21, of Boston, painted the words 'B Strong' on the window of Sugar Heaven on Boylston Street, across from the Finish Line where the first bomb went off, after the verdict came down in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in Boston on April 8, 2015. No victim of the Boston Marathon bombings was more poignant, perhaps, than eight-year-old Martin Richard. It was a photo of a smiling Martin, who was from Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood, holding up a handmade sign saying, “No more hurting people,” that seemed to underscore the callousness of the acts and...

February 3rd is remembered in honor of The Four Chaplains. On February 3, 1943, the USAT Dorchester was torpedoed while transporting approxomately 900 men across the Atlantic. The Four Chaplains - Methodist Reverend George L. Fox, Reform-Rabbi Dr. Alexander D. Goode, Father John P. Washington and Reformed Church Reverend Clark V. Poling - helped organize the evacuation of the ship, then gave up their life vests when the crew ran out of vests for the men. They were reportedly seen praying, arm in arm, as the ship went down. 230 men were eventually rescued from the frigid water that night.

A National Guardsman who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay has sued a woman he tried to rent from, after she told him his war service and her peace activism presented a “conflict of interests” and suggested he seek housing elsewhere — though the Dorchester landlady insists his veteran status “would not impede his chances to rent from us.” Sgt. Joel Morgan, 29, said the two-bedroom $1,220-a-month Savin Hill apartment that property owner Janice Roberts, 63, showed him in April was perfect. But he claims Roberts told him in an April 9 voicemail that renting to him would be...

By March 4, 1776, the American forces had been stationed outside Boston for nearly a year. British soldiers had been there longer. For eight long years, Boston had effectively been under martial law. Ever since the Massachusetts House had objected to the Townshend Acts in 1868, the British forces who arrived that October were a constant fixture around town, a continual reminder that to King George III, the colonists – those of Boston, at any rate – were prisoners in their own city. They may have thought they had the rights of free Englishmen, but England’s monarch thought otherwise. After...

As the site occupies an area near to the southern edge of the Roman town of Durnovaria it was predicted evidence of Roman town life would be uncovered during the works. The prediction proved correct; immediately below the modern overburden, the remains of Roman houses were uncovered. These buildings were built around 100AD and were orientated according to the town's street plan, which it has been possible to map using evidence from other excavations in Dorchester. These houses were in the vicinity of the southern wall of the Roman town and the public baths. They were well built with stone...
