WASHINGTON (Feb. 28) - Former President Clinton, a reformed overeater, urged state governors on Tuesday to embrace a long-term effort to change the nation's culture of too much food and too little exercise. He warned the governors that failure to change the nation's eating habits will weaken the economy and threaten the lives of its children. "We have a huge cultural problem and unless we change it our children may grow up to be the first generation with shorter lifespans than we had," the former Arkansas governor told the National Governors Association at the last day of its annual winter...

EDINBURGH, Scotland (Reuters) - Their relationships with two of the world's most famous men brought international scandals -- but Monica Lewinsky and Rebecca Loos both used the media onslaught to boost their bank balances. "You'd be an idiot not to get the money," said Lewinsky, the former White House intern whose affair with then-President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) nearly drove him from office. "Advertisers, television stations, news anchors -- everyone else is making money. Your story is a commodity," added Lewinsky, who received a reported $718,800 for an interview with Britain's Channel 4. Loos, whose alleged affair with...

ARTHUR Schlesinger Jr., a lifelong Democratic stalwart, says there is only one Democratic candidate for president he wouldn't vote for - Sen. Joe Lieberman. "He's the most sanctimonious member of the U.S. Congress," the eminent historian tells Avenue columnist Richard Turley in a wide-ranging conversation. Schlesinger says that on the 40th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, "I've always been agnostic about the theory of the possibility of a conspiracy. I've always felt that at some point, someone involved in the conspiracy would have sold out to the National Enquirer for $1 million." Is there anyone whose judgment he respects who believes the Mafia did it? "My wife, Alexandra, does," he tells Avenue. Schlesinger opines that Bill Clinton should not have been impeached because, in his own mind, Clinton was not committing perjury when he denied having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky because the ex-prez is one of the Southern-school types who believes that oral sex doesn't count.

Yep, it's TODAY! Later this afternoon, I will be making my promised trip down to the local Chinese restaurant, and will attempt to eat 100 or more mussels. Why? To raise money for Free Republic, of course! You can still help, too. Here's how. So far, dozens of FReepers have pledged to donate a set amount to FR for every mussel I eat. Some have pledged .10 cents a mussel, some .25 cents, $1.00, and more. What can you pledge? To date, I believe we have a total of $16.05/mussel. If I reach my goal today of 100 mussels, that...

I'm EATING my way to FReedom self | 01/25/03 | dware Posted on 01/25/2003 8:00 PM EST by dware That's right, I'm eating for FReedom. And I need your help. I know, the FReep-a-thon is over, and was a huge success. I extend my personal gratitude to everyone that contributed to help keep the lights on here at Free Republic. You are a force to be reconned with. Now, here's the deal: I have been doing research into the funding of the leftist extremist organizations (such as ANSWER) that have been supporting and even organizing the anti-war and pro-terrorist efforts...

I extend my personal gratitude to everyone that contributed to help keep the lights on here at Free Republic. You are a force to be reconned with. Now, here's the deal: I have been doing research into the funding of the leftist extremist organizations (such as ANSWER) that have been supporting and even organizing the anti-war and pro-terrorist efforts here. One thing is certain - they have more than enough funding to 'keep the lights on'. In fact,...

Folks, I'm having fundraising frustrations. For the past week or so, I have been looking into the funding of left wing extremist organizations such as ANSWER, among many others. One thing is clear: these organizations have some serious sources for funding their communist agendas. On the other hand, Free Republic relies on the generousity of it's members. This is great, considering the fact that FR can raise $65k in just under a month from member donations. However, from what I understand, this simply covers operating costs. As far as I am concerned, this is not enough. The leftist extremists have...
