Does it really matter if Romney is worth $250 million, $1 billion or more? Rich is rich after all, right? I think it does, politically as well as substantively. Politically, the alternatives are not great. If he were perceived as the first real billionaire to run for president, it would only exacerbate popular doubts about how someone living so removed from the concerns of average Americans — or even just 47 percent of them — could effectively represent them. And if he is not a billionaire, doesn’t it suggest that he was not a great private-equity investor after all, thus...

Santorum also noted that the revolution that closely followed America’s, the French Revolution, also has parallel sand lessons for today. “The French Revolution was anti-clerical, anti-God, secular, atheistic revolution,” he said. “Rights didn’t come from God. Yes they were for liberty, they were for equality but the government was the one who was going to order liberty not the individual. Government was going to order liberty; government was going to guarantee equality of result. “That’s where you get into this model of the government giving you rights, government telling you how to exercise those rights so government can arrange things....

Canada is getting rich; its GDP is about $1.4 trillion per year. This means that if Obama’s government took everything produced in Canada each year (a 100 percent tax on everything); he would still be running a $400 billion debt per year (more than a billion per day). The average UNI professor would have to work for 61,000 years to pay for what Obama’s government adds to the national debt in one day! One in seven Americans are now on food stamps. In 2008, the average median household income was $54,700/year. It has now dropped to $50,700. At the same...

Sunday, October 07, 2012 The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 47%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and two percent (2%) are undecided. These results are based upon nightly interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, today’s update is the first based entirely upon interviews conducted after the first presidential debate last Wednesday night. The numbers reflect a modest debate bounce for Romney. See daily tracking history. As with all bounces, it remains to...

Mitt Romney's strong debate performance did little to convince more voters he understands them or is a "good person" even though he has narrowed President Barack Obama's overall poll lead, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey released on Saturday. Just a month before the November 6 election, the Democratic president is ahead of his Republican challenger on character attributes that can win over undecided voters who have not been swayed on policy points. [Snip] The online survey of 1,770 registered voters and 1,492 likely voters was conducted from October 2-6. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a...

CARACAS - Venezuelans vote on Sunday with President Hugo Chavez facing the biggest electoral challenge yet to his socialist rule from a young rival tapping into discontent over crime and cronyism. The vote pitting Chavez against challenger Henrique Capriles is an all-or-nothing contest between two camps that deeply distrust each other and question whether the other side will respect the results of the election. The stakes couldn't be higher. If Chavez wins, he will have a free hand to dominate Venezuela for six more years on top of the 14 years he has already been in office, letting him push...

OK, I don't watch a lot of regular network programming. Here's what I watch: Major Legue Baseball College and NFL Football FoxNews Occasional reruns of Frasier, which appear on the Hallmark Channel I believe. My wife, however, watches various things on Bravo like those insipid Real Housewife shows, Top Chef, etc. (Yes, I know...) and Lifetime Channel. Neither of us have seen a SINGLE Romney ad in weeks. Not one. I have seen dozens of Obama ads, and they appear to be generating new ones all the time. The most recent, today, was a rebuttal to the debate featuring Andrea...

Days after American Spectator Senior Editor John Fund warned gun owners about the dangers that voter fraud pose for the Second Amendment this year, September’s job report shows a surprising – and some suggest curious – drop below eight percent for the first time since Barack Obama took office. What’s that got to do with gun rights? Plenty, if one is worried about a second Obama term and what it could mean for future Second Amendment court battles, and the proposed United Nations Small Arms Trade Treaty. While it is good news for those who now have jobs, several people...

Nobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Even when those mistakes are conscious, there is always a chance to reverse them, if one catches oneself in time. Take the wrong route; don’t be afraid to do a U-turn and correct the error. Wear the wrong necktie, dress right the next time to correct the impression. Make the wrong choice; don’t be afraid to make the right one next time. The American news media, known collectively as “the MainStream Media” or MSM for decades now, has made a collective choice: most have been part and parcel of the Democratic Party, either admittedly or...

I like to make informed decisions about candidates, but sometimes it is difficult to sift through sound bites, propaganda and media bias. What do the individual candidates really stand for, and what is their record? It is especially difficult finding any local information about judicial races. I spent long hours looking for voter’s guides, with specific information to make informed election decisions. One helpful resource is Citizens for Community Values (CCV), http://www.ccv.org/resources/election-information/ .Who is CCV? “Citizens for Community Values (CCV) exists to promote Judeo-Christian moral values, and to reduce destructive behaviors contrary to those values, through education, active community partnership,...

President Barack Obama and the Democrats raised $181 million in September — their largest monthly haul since he launched his reelection bid, his campaign announced Saturday. "Some amazing news this morning: 1,825,813 people came together to raise $181 million for this campaign in September," the campaign said on Twitter. "If you gave $5, it helped. 98% of September's contributions were $250 or less, with an average contribution of $53," it said. The figures combine the Obama campaign's fund raising with Democratic National Committee efforts. The amount fell short of the Obama and DNC's single-month record, set in September 08, of...

A week ago, I found BuzzFeed on FreeRepublic. The story was the Down Low club in Chicago. Since then, I have been reading some of the stuff on that blog. My questions to fellow Freepers - how much of that stuff should be believed? And what do Freepers think of that blog?

The Unemployment Rate Drop Does Not Change My Recession Outlook Mike "Mish" Shedlock, Global Economic Trend AnalysisOct. 6, 2012, 6:29 AMThe establishment report of +114,000 jobs was pretty much about what most expected. The four-month average is a mere 120,000 a month (a very weak set of establishment numbers for this point in a recovery). However, the household survey surprise shows the unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a percent to 7.8%. On the surface, this is a solid showing, and 100% certain to boost the Obama campaign. I suggest these numbers will overshadow a horrendously weak performance by the president...

Romney needs to craft a commercial asking this question to rebut the phony employment numbers being released by The Dumb's Bureau of Lies and Spin. You may be unemployed because of The Won, or you might be working two or three jobs because of The Won. The question gets to the heart of the debate.

Ok guys and gals.. so over the last 4 years we've all talked about the scenarios. And now we're here. We're at the tipping point. Obama just got destroyed in the first debate. What will he do in order to hang onto power? We know he's desperate. Will he? Start a war? Declare martial law? Try and cancel the election? Invade Libya? PLUS here's another frightening scenario.. Obama loses the election but still has a little bit of time in office left. He begins to REALLY sell America out by giving our enemies everything he can. Every secret, everything they...

My nine year-old grandson is spending the evening with some friends. It seems that the boys he's with got into a political conversation and my grandson said, "I'm voting for Romney because Obama used too much money and had to borrow it from China, so now we owe China." I'm amazed that he understands so much and would rather talk politics than X-box (his true passion!). In the course of the conversation, one of the other boys shared that his mom voted for Obama in 2008 but doesn't know what she was thinking and will NOT vote for him this...

The Obamas have a well-documented relationship with Oprah, but now Mitt and Ann Romney have opened up to the chat show host for the first time. The Republican power couple welcomed the media mogul into their roomy New Hampshire holiday home on Lake Winnipesaukee, to talk about family, religion, food and, of course, politics. Casually dressed in jeans, with the top button of his shirt undone, the presidential nominee even took it upon himself to pack Ms Winfrey a doggie bag for the road, as they finished off in the kitchen.
