Denny's has closed its only restaurant in Oakland, California because of concerns about customer and staff safety. The announcement came just over a week after cult West Coast burger chain In-N-Out Burger said that it will close its Oakland restaurant in March. COO Denny Warnick attributed to the "frequency and severity" of crimes experienced by its customers and staff. The company said that these included car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies. This will be the first time In-N-Out has ever had to close a restaurant. The Denny's and In-N-Out restaurants are located just under a mile from each...

America’s diner may always be open, but it’s permanently closing a location that’s fed generations. Denny’s has closed its location in Oakland, California after 54 years due to high crime in the city. The restaurant was located at 601 Hegenberg Road. In a company memo shared with local outlets, Denny’s said the decision was not one taken lightly. “However, the safety and well-being of Denny’s team members and value guests is our top priority,” the company said. “Weighing those factors, the decision has been made to close this location.” The company retains a Bay Area location at 1776 Powell St....

The Democratic debates tonight and tomorrow will likely stick to the familiar script from the first ones, with candidates tripping over each other to see who can promise the biggest tax-spend-and-regulate agenda. This doesn't make for compelling television. President Trump nailed the description of the first round with his one-word tweet, "BORING!" To make the debates more exciting to watch and to provide voters with a glimpse of reality into Democrats' fantasy-world policy proposals, the CNN moderators must press the candidates on the consequences of their proposals. A good place to start is by challenging their uniform support of the...

Small businesses are already struggling to survive the spate of minimum wage increases to $15 per hour in parts of California. Last month, the small Bay Area town of Emeryville, California, (population 10,000) decided to act as flag-bearer for raising the minimum wage in California, hiking its minimum wage to $14.44 per hour. Even though businesses with less than 56 workers are exempt from the $14.44 rate and do not have to raise their wages to $15 until 2018, Vic Gumper, who owns Lanesplitter Pizza, with outlets in Berkeley, Oakland, Albany and Emeryville, decided not only to bite the bullet...

Emeryville, CA top cop Police Chief Ken James expresses his personal attitude toward weapons; oddly enough, it is remarkably similar to that of the criminal mind and to one of the most ruthless homicidal maniacs of history. http://youtu.be/kdqWI8HCNf8Police Chief Ken James, Police Chief Association’s Firearms Committee Chairman revealed his anti-Second Amendment philosophy at a conference with California lawmakers and Police Chiefs. He maintains that the concept of weapons being used for defense is a “myth”. He also expressed concern over the number of weapons owned by American citizens. “One issue that always boggles my mind is that the idea that...
