• Suggestions to possibly make your FR pages load faster [thread II]

    10/31/2012 6:35:41 PM PDT · by Jim Robinson · 96 replies
Very sorry about the problems with our servers causing FR to get bogged down under peak traffic loads. Praying that John finds a solution or workaround soon. In the meantime, here are some suggestion you can use to possibly make your FR pages load faster: Configure your sidebars to display fewer items. I've temporarily disabled all sidebars but breaking news on mine. Select "Disabled" in the "Region" pulldown for each sidebar block you wish to temporarily disable then click "Modify": http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/manage-blocks Reduce the number of threads and replies downloaded on each click. Go to personal preferences and reduce the "Thread...

Has there been some change to Free Republic that I am not aware? Is everyone subject to these new rules? All of my post are now "subject to review." Is this a new feature for all posts or just mine? I notice I am not allowed to send mail. The message is my account is too "new" for this feature. I have been a member since August 29, 2010. I have posted 514 articles. I have made 390 comments. I have used the private mail since the day I started here. So. The question is: Is this new to everyone...

It is a credit to the success of FR that we run into traffic issues and slow downs on debates. I will continue to come here for updates. However a back up plan may be to use twitter and end with #FR so tha twe can search by Free Republic tweeters. Just a thought. Jim thanks for all your work on this site!

It started early this morning. Every thread I clicked on had a banter of double entendres, puns, jokes, and general silliness and cleverness. Many were laugh out loud funny. Is it the hurricane? Is everyone half looped? Are people juiced up for the RNC Convention? Have your kids finally driven you crazy while they were home for the summer? Whatever it is, keep it up. It's hilarious.

I,like some but unlike many, make many eoors when posting.Spelling (yes,I use spell check...usually),punctuation and other errors are often made by me.Is there a way that FR can set up something like what I've seen on other forums (car forums, for example) that allow the poster to delete of edit a post after "post" has been hit? I know nothing about computers and, therefore, don't know how difficult and/or expensive it be,if it's possible at all. Thanks!

It is within the bounds of “open” Religion Forum town square style debate for a Freeper to express his hatred of a belief. But such posts are never allowed on RF threads labeled “prayer” “devotional” “caucus” or “ecumenical.” It is never within the bounds on the Religion Forum for a Freeper to express his hatred of people who hold a particular belief when any Freeper is part of the belief group. For example: It is ok to express hatred towards MormonISM on “open” Religion Forum threads. It is never ok to express hatred towards Mormons because some Freepers are Mormon....

I am new to Free Republic. I look forward to being a small part of this community. I see by many of the postings that most of the posters on this website are ANTI-Romney. That is good because I am too. I am a conservative from Tallahassee, Florida. I am torn between Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. Reading some of the postings I see there are passionate folks on the Newt side as well as on the Rick side. I am leaning toward Rick Santorum because I think he can best beat Romney in the Primary and frankly I think...

The Fall of Jim Robinson’s Free Republic Website I want to report and expose a devious and vicious campaign that is currently underway on the so-called “premier” site on the Internet for conservatives, Free Republic. Ironically, the target of this campaign is fellow…conservatives, especially conservative bloggers, completely removing any justification from Free Republic for promoting this kind of action. I moonlight as a conservative blogger, though I write for Examiner, which is a news website run by the Clarity Media Group. I have been familiar with Free Republic for several years, and I had been lurking there since about 2003...
  • Who reads FR? How many accounts on FR? What does FR stand for? Where is FR going?

I'm placing this in breaking news, because there have been several breaking news complaint threads recently. Guess there are a lot of people not understanding the facts about FR, or what we stand for, where we're going, etc.

First of all, who reads FR and how many accounts do we have? I honestly have no idea and the exact number does not concern me. We currently have over 369,000 registered accounts on FR, but as someone pointed out yesterday, not all of them are active and I have no idea how many are active.

At www.freerepublic.com, we find the question Who reads FR? to be answered in the following way:Over 300,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic since inception in 1996 and our forum is read daily by over one hundred thousand freedom loving citizens and patriots from all around the country, and all around the world. We're currently delivering over thirty million pageviews per month to over one million visitors. This number of 300,000 users is sometimes quoted (i.e., "On one conservative Web site, Freerepublic.com, some of the site's 300,000 registered users have recently used discussion threads to encourage votes...

Since my registration on this site, January 15, 2004, I look forward to the New Year and my sixth anniversary with the finest "Red Staters" across the globe. It is this place that exhibits more generosity than every country combined. There is no finer place on the Internet. Over the course of 2010, there has been no better display of patriotism and Americanism than this beloved Red, White and Blue forum. Despite the claims of the world, FReepers celebrate the New Year, giving more than they receive. With the never-ending support of this web site, Free Republic will continue to...
