<p>Sen. Chris Coons wrote in The News Journal last year that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was unprovoked. Surprisingly, the Senator either did not see or did not understand the multiple ways that actions by the U.S., NATO and the current government of Ukraine threatened Russia’s security and provoked the invasion. By moving NATO missile bases (which can instantaneously switched into offensive mode) right up to the Russian border in Poland and Romania, and stating repeatedly that Ukraine would join NATO, which could bring NATO missiles within 6 minutes of Moscow, the U.S. and NATO created severe threats to Russia’s national security.</p>

<p>At a public board meeting in May, Shasta County Supervisor Patrick Jones declared that he is convinced there was voter fraud in his election victory in November 2020.</p><p>Jones beat incumbent Steve Morgan by nearly 11 percentage points.</p><p>Jones explained at the meeting that the Mesa, Colorado, “pattern of fraud” played out in his race, referring to claims made by Jeffrey O’Donnell, who — like former President Donald Trump and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell — has pushed debunked theories about voting machines manipulating election results.</p>

<p>Days after helping ban gay pride and other flags from Hamtramck property in a move he said aims to keep the city neutral, Mayor Amer Ghalib is being accused of selective enforcement for allowing a Black pride flag to fly at a city park.</p>

<p>A statewide bus voter registration and community advocating initiative, dubbed the 'Stay Woke' Votercade, is scheduled to stop in Sarasota's Newtown community at Bethlehem Baptist Church on June 21 from 9-11 a.m.as part of a 15-city Florida NAACP tour.</p><p>Manasota NAACP organizers and president Trevor Harvey will welcome residents and visitors to visit the bus on its fourth day of the week-long tour, which began in Jacksonville on June 18. Harvey said locally the tour is an opportunity to educate residents about recently passed Florida laws that affect not only Black residents but many other marginalized residents in the region and state as well.</p>

<p>"Florida is where woke goes to die," the governor has touted repeatedly.</p><p>The word's been used in recent years by conservatives to refer to values and initiatives they deem progressive. It's been a staple for DeSantis, even appearing in legislation he signed last year: the "Stop WOKE Act," which restricts how race is discussed in schools, colleges and workplaces.</p>
