A South Texas farmer has died after being stung by hundreds of bees while using a tractor on a field near Rio Hondo. The San Benito Fire Department on Monday identified the victim as 53-year-old Rogelio Zuniga. Fire Chief Raul Zuniga Jr., who's a cousin of the victim, says the attack happened Sunday afternoon. Rogelio Zuniga was using a disk on the field when the tractor hit an old concrete pipe meant for irrigation. The fire chief says the bees came from an opening in the pipe. The Entomology Research Museum at the University of California, Riverside today announced the discovery of a new species of firefly from Southern California, collected by an undergraduate student as part of his semester's insect collection. Doug Yanega, senior museum scientist, said the student, Joshua Oliva, obtained one specimen of the new species while collecting near Topanga, Calif. KARST, Germany, - A German gardener broke his own Guinness World Record by growing a sunflower plant measuring 30 feet and 1 inch high. Hans-Peter Schiffer of Karst first held the record for tallest sunflower plant in 2009 with a 26-foot, 4-inch sunflower and he broke his own record in 2012 with a 27-foot plant. A 15-foot-tall Agave plant is blooming and drawing crowds to the Dallas Arboretum. The Arboretum says the Agave victoriae-reginae is 20 years old and this will be the only time it blooms in its lifetime. Once it finishes blooming, the plant will die, but not before sowing seeds for the next generation. The plant just started opening up and will bloom in the Garden's Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden for two to four weeks. Agave victoriae-reginae plant is endangered in its native Sierra Madre mountain range of Chihuahua, Mexico.
