It’s as simple as simple can be — just a man, speaking against a blue background. But, in a cycle of 30-second ads, this one stands out for a different reason: It runs for 28 minutes and 59 seconds. It fits that it comes from Newt Gingrich, who has arguably been most stung by the work of skilled videographers at his rivals’ campaigns. While the Gingrich campaign has run its share of attack ads, too, those quick hits never seem to advance his cause in quite the way he’d like. He’s oscillated between a positive and negative approach to campaigning...

......Deference to leaders who do not necessarily share your background or agree with you on everything is in the fiber of representative government. It is enshrined in the Constitution. In fact, there probably never would have been a Constitution if the Americans of 1787 hadn't been willing to defer to the "assembly of demigods" (as Jefferson described them) that convened in Philadelphia, closed the doors to the press, sealed the windows to eavesdroppers, and privately debated the future of the nation. ....What the Tea Party needs to do is look for allies. There are other people in the country who...

GINGRICH: The President of the United States is patriotic in a worldview that involves the writing of Saul Alinsky, and involves a radical reinterpretation. Clearly, his czars were unconstitutional; clearly, his recess appointments, when there was no recess, is unconstitutional; clearly, the use of the U.S. attorney in North Dakota to selectively prosecute oil companies over eight migratory birds is unconstitutional. Again and again, this is a president who routinely only obeys those laws he personally deems fit. I think that his attack on the Catholic Church is unconstitutional. It's a violation of the First Amendment. Now, I think that's...

The Michigan Republican Primary is just a week away, and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is holding on to a small lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 38% of the vote to Romney’s 34%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 10% support and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at nine percent (9%). Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided. The margin between the top two candidates is little changed from last...

We've already stumbled through the electoral fantasyland inhabited by mainstream media figures and certain GOP elites alike, so let's return to reality, shall we? This week's polling data is fascinating on several fronts. Let's begin with the GOP nominating contest -- you know, the one with actual declared candidates vying for votes. Sen. Rick Santorum holds a ten-point national lead over Gov. Mitt Romney among Republican voters: In the Feb. 15-19 Gallup Daily tracking rolling average, Santorum is ahead of Romney by 36% to 26%, with Newt Gingrich at 13% and Ron Paul at 11%. This marks Santorum's largest...

Poll: Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum Nearly Even In Georgia February 21, 2012 By Larry Peterson A new poll pegs Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum as nearly even in Georgia as its March 6 Republican primary approaches. Gingrich’s double-digit lead has dried up in less than three weeks, and experts say his White House hopes likely are over if he can’t carry his home state. In a Monday InsiderAdvantage Georgia poll of 711 likely primary voters, Gingrich, a former long-time Georgia congressman and House speaker, had 26 percent. Former Massachusetts governor Romney had 24 percent and former...

Citing his record, standing up to Bill Clinton, stopped Hillary Care, cut spending and turned the debt into a surplus, the ad shows Newt Gingrich is the only candidate that has a record of being a proven conservative.

I recently made a private vow not to use the term “Israel Firster” again, for two reasons: it’s derogatory (and it was, initially, my vituperative response to being called “anti-Israel” by assorted neoconservative blowhards) and it’s inaccurate–most of those who are, I believe, unduly aggressive about Israel’s national security believe that the national security of Israel and the U.S. are identical. But how does one describe Sheldon Adelson, who says–tongue slightly in cheek, it seems–that he could spend $100 million to support Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign…and who also is known to have only one public policy issue on his agenda:...

This story is part of a larger profile appearing in the March 12th, 2012 issue of FORBES magazine. Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s...

In an energetic appeal for support, Newt Gingrich stood before 4000 onlookers at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center and proclaimed a message reminiscent of his 1994 “Contract with America” campaign. He progressed through issues including energy, healthcare, the economy, foreign policy, and declared Obama the “most dangerous president in modern American history.” While explaining his plan to rebuild the shattered economy, he announced that, if elected, he would abolish the “death tax.” Meaning, he would offer legislation repealing the estate tax. The logic is that heavily taxing estates, eviscerates family wealth and forces more people into the public welfare...

Top story on Drudge as I write this. And to think, some people accuse him of being pro-Romney. “Satan has his sights on the United States of America!” Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared. “Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.”… “This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good,...

While plenty of Texans have put forward big bucks for presidential candidates and their Super PACs, smaller donations gave each of the four leading Republican candidates several hundred thousand dollars in January, according to the Federal Election Commission. The donations for individuals and PACs – the non-super ones – are capped at $5,000. And while they are drowned out by the donations such as Houston home builder Bob Perry’s million to Mitt Romney, they still play a part in the election. “Candidates still count the small donors,” said Texans for Public Justice Director Craig McDonald. “I think it’s a way...

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Newt Gingrich will not campaign in Michigan in advance of next Tuesday's primary there: Spokesman R.C. Hammond confirmed Monday night that the campaign is scrapping tentative plans to travel to Michigan at the end of the week ahead of the state’s Feb. 28 primary. Gingrich is spending Tuesday and Wednesday in the other Feb. 28 primary — Arizona — but that is mostly for the sake of Wednesday night’s debate, and his public schedule will be light.

BOISE - Another presidential hopeful is coming to Idaho. Newt Gingrich will be in Idaho on Thursday. He is holding a fundraiser in Harrison, Idaho. The cost is $1,000 per person. Thursday night, Gingrich will also hold a town hall in Coeur d'Alene. The exact time and location are still being worked out at this time. Gingrich is the fourth major Republican presidential candidate to visit Idaho in the past week and-a-half.

The Rev. Franklin Graham says presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not a Christian. Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe show, Graham was asked whether Romney is a Christian. Graham said he likes Romney, but added, “He’s a Mormon.” When one of the hosts suggested Romney still is part of the “Judeo-Christian faith,” Graham responded: “Most Christians would not recognize Mormons as part of the Christian faith.” “I’m just saying that most Christians would not recognize Mormonism. Of course they believe in Jesus Christ. They believe in a lot of other things, too, that we don't accept theologically.”(continued)

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will hold a town hall-style forum in Spokane on Thursday, Spokane County Republican Chairman Matthew Pederson confirmed. Details will be released later today, he said. Gingrich is the third GOP presidential hopeful to make a stop in the Inland Northwest. Rick Santorum spoke in Coeur d'Alene last week and Ron Paul held a rally at the Spokane Convention Center on Friday. Mitt Romney's son will visit Spokane Valley this afternoon. Gingrich, despite being from Georgia, has noteworthy ties to Inland Northwest politics that he may or may not dwell on in his visit....

OKLAHOMA CITY—A once-powerful Washington figure himself, Newt Gingrich says he'd shrink the role of the nation's capital if sent back as president. The Republican presidential candidate wrapped two days of Oklahoma campaigning Tuesday by addressing the state Legislature. He asked lawmakers for input on regulations to roll back and other steps to, in his words, "get the federal government out of your hair." The former House speaker says he'd focus most on regulations he thinks are hindering energy development and on giving states greater flexibility

TULSA, Okla. - While discussing the threat of Iran today to a crowd of about 4,000 people at Oral Roberts University, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said that defeating Barack Obama was "in fact, a duty of national security." "Because the fact is, he is incapable of defending the United States," Gingrich said. Gingrich told the crowd, many of them young students, there was a real threat of an American city being wiped out. Gingrich said the Obama administration refuses to acknowledge radical Islamists. "All of you should be very deeply concerned about national security. Barack Obama is the most...
