Sometimes the problem is that votes were miscounted. That's what happened, officials say, with precinct-by-precinct results posted on the Orange County elections office Web site showing that Democrat John Kerry beat Republican President Bush by 9,227 votes in Orange. That was off by 8,400 votes. Officials working for Bill Cowles, the Orange elections supervisor, said the correct totals, available elsewhere on the site, showed that Kerry bested Bush in the county by only 827 votes.

U.S. space agency scientists received about 20 minutes of communications from their Mars rover spacecraft Spirit Friday, as they tried to diagnose the problem causing its breakdown. They gave no details, but said it responded properly to a command from earth and that they hope to get enough more information from it to restore its scientific functions. Since Wednesday, Spirit has responded to transmissions from earth, but has sent no new data about Mars. Is it cool to just seal this thing off with Duct Tape or would black electrical tape be more hip? How about hitting it with a hammer, just a tap... will that help? The CD/CDR drive is continually opening and closing by itself. I tried running a maintenance program on it but it's freezing up and ridiculously slow. I've checked to see if the manual button for the CD/CDR drive is stuck and it's okay. I also checked the eject button on the keyboard. Any chance that this is a virus? My "new posts" is highlighted, but new posts are not showing. The posts get posted to the thread, but something is odd about the my comments/new posts function. Anybody else?
