Washington - Colorado's Rep. Tom Tancredo and 70 other U.S. representatives sent a letter today to a Senate committee, warning that legislation it's considering allowing illegal immigrants to work legally in the country will hit a roadblock if it comes back to the House. The Senate's Judiciary Committee for the last two weeks has been debating an immigration reform bill that includes what's being called a “guest worker” program, something President Bush said he wants. “We are concerned that some of these proposals are fundamentally incompatible with the desire of the American public for real immigration reform and their clear...

A bill that would give millions of illegal aliens in the United States the opportunity to earn citizenship is closer to becoming law today as members of the Senate Judiciary Committee signaled likely passage of a proposal by Sens. Edward Kenney, D-Mass., and John McCain, R-Ariz. Though a committee vote will not be held until after a week-long congressional recess, likely March 27, committee members appeared ready to back the Kennedy-McCain bill. "The votes are there," said Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. Congress is working to pass a reform bill that includes enforcement, a policy on dealing with illegals already in...

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico will begin extraditing drug lords wanted in the United States within weeks and expects a violent backlash from the powerful cartels, President Vicente Fox said on Wednesday. Fox told Reuters the legal process of handing over traffickers on the U.S. government's list had already begun. "I am confident and convinced that very soon, and I am talking about weeks, we will start the first extraditions of these leaders," Fox said. "I am sure that will provoke additional violence. ... They will try to retaliate," he said. "It could be judges, it could be government officials,...

WASHINGTON - A key provision in the Senate's main immigration bill would create a "gold card" for the nation's estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, allowing them to live and work legally in the United States -- but without offering them a clear path to citizenship. The legislation, which calls for dramatic increases in the number of legal immigrants, is meant to placate those who want illegal immigrants sent back to their home countries and those who want them to become legal, permanent residents. The problem is both sides oppose it. "It says, 'We want your labor. Yes we think you're...

CBS's Chicago station took the lead in reporting the large immigrant protest yesterday in Chicago. And once again it looks like CBS is blatently manipulating the news, to support their viewpoints. Case in point are the pictures featured prominantly on their web site. Here is the lead picture: Notice the prominant American flag. If you choose to "view slideshow" here is the front image: Five of the first 10 slides have large obvious flags in the, such as this: The complete library can be viewed HERE (at least until they wise up and pull it like the did the fake...

AP) DENVER Prosecutors said Friday they filed theft, conspiracy and other charges against three people accused of stealing $2,300 in checks from residents of a retirement complex. One of the three also tried to steal Social Security numbers and other personal information, and two were in the country on expired vacation visas from Ghana, Denver district attorney's spokeswoman Lisa Curtis said. The suspects, Leticia Osei Bonsu, George Oppong and Raymond Wayoe, also face charges of forgery and criminal impersonation. Bonsu, also known as Mavis Ofisu-Armaah, and Oppong were in custody on immigration holds because of expired visas, Curtis said. Wayoe,...

PATRICK BUCHANAN, COMMENTATOR AND former presidential candidate, looked over the issues on the political agenda in 2006 and liked what he saw. It was a paleoconservative's delight. There was the Dubai ports deal, rejected by a congressional uprising part nationalistic, part isolationist. There's immigration, soon to be debated on the Senate floor and always high on the paleocon list of concerns. Excessive government spending, a worry of all conservatives but especially paleocons, is a major topic this year. And the intervention in Iraq and President Bush's crusade for democracy face sharp criticism, with paleocons in the lead among the critics....

Hoisting American flags into the air, tens of thousands of immigrants from the Chicago area marched downtown in a display of support for immigrant rights as a bill to stiffen border enforcement awaits action in the U.S. Senate. Many took up enthusiastic chants like "Si, se puede (Yes, it can be done)" and "La raza unida nunca sera vencida (A people united will never be defeated)." The mostly Latino marchers Friday descended upon the plaza across from the federal courthouse, where they listened to speeches backing pro-immigrant legislation. "Raise those American flags!" shouted U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (news, bio, voting...

"Nearly five years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, our borders remain porous. The deportation system remains broken. The government's tracking systems for criminal illegal aliens and visa overstayers remain incomplete. So, what's Washington's latest homeland security solution?" " 'Gold Cards' for illegal aliens." "I kid you not."

WASHINGTON - The Senate’s main immigration bill would enable most illegal immigrants now in the United States to remain indefinitely as long as they stay employed, but it wouldn’t put them on a glide path to U.S. citizenship. The Senate Judiciary Committee will begin debating the measure Wednesday under a three-week timetable aimed at producing a final version for the full Senate by March 27. Sponsored by Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., the committee chairman, the legislation is designed to strike a middle course between a bill passed by the House of Representatives calling for tougher immigration enforcement and pro-immigration advocates...

The committee is to begin debating the measure Wednesday under a three-week timetable aimed at producing a final version for the full Senate by March 27. Sponsored by the committee...
