Has anyone purchased an "Education version" of Corel Draw Graphics Suite? (Not the "Home and Student" version, which is a separate product.) I'm trying to find out if activating and using it is as simple as having a valid .EDU email address, or if there are more steps involved. I looked in various FAQs on the Corel site, but I couldn't find this question explicitly answered. Kind of a longshot asking here, but I know FReepers are knowledgeable about a wide spectrum of things. Thanks.

Hello From Montana- You may have noticed that our site, www.grrrgraphics.com was suspended for over eight hours last night. Our site is back up now, but is very slow to load. This happened Monday morning, right after Ben's McCain Cartoon was published late Sunday afternoon. We were attacked. And silenced. We were censored. Fortunately, we are back online now. Because of this, so many people contacted us with messages of support in this censorship crisis- we want to thank you and everyone for the YUGE out pouring of kindness and offers of help. We are truly thankful we have you....

In 2015, a blockbuster study came to a surprising conclusion: Middle-aged white Americans are dying younger for the first time in decades, despite positive life expectancy trends in other wealthy countries and other segments of the US population. The research, by Princeton University’s Anne Case and Angus Deaton, highlighted the links between economic struggles, suicides, and alcohol and drug overdoses.Since then, Case and Deaton have been working to more fully explain their findings. They’ve now come to a compelling conclusion: It’s complicated. There’s no single reason for this disturbing increase in the mortality rate, but a toxic cocktail of factors. In a...

I am a pretty new graduate of a graphics design school. I hope to work part-time in this field, which I really enjoy, when I leave teaching. My first paid client (sort of a friend) recently had me make a political flyer for his current campaign. I used InDesign to make the flyer, as well as Photoshop to tweak the photos he provided me and Illustrator to make some little graphic flourishes. It was a lot of work and took me a lot of time, since I'm new at this and don't have the extreme facility with the myriad of...

At the source is a link to a project from 1996 used by SONY at an awards presentation. I am working with the man who had that video of Virtual Marilyn created. I have acquired the licensing rights to develop animated 3D stickers (emoticons) of the 3D "persona" of the late Marilyn Monroe. The person from whom I have the rights recorded the idea and copyright in the Library of Congress. No, the estate of Marilyn Monroe cannot do anything about it. Court cases have determined that her domicile at the time of death was New York. If it were...

The Tech Report crew seems to think that SteamOS and Mantle could ruin PC gaming. I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion but I'm sure you guys will have plenty to say on the topic. Now, all of a sudden, next year's gaming landscape looks to be shaping up very differently. Instead of three major platforms based on a common hardware architecture, game developers will face two monolithic platforms and a fragmented one—the PC—that will have two starkly different operating systems and three different APIs—Direct3D, OpenGL, and Mantle.

But my eyes!!! It felt like someone had dragged a cheese grater across my eyeballs when I saw the iOS 7 home screen, with its horrendous icons that looked like they were designed by Lisa Frank! Yes, the iOS 7 beta comes perilously close to looking like Lisa Frank’s “Stuff Girls Love” site.

I know the first three say the same thing, but I couldn't ignore them because they all had different angles to them that are important to recognize.Happy Memorial Day.

There is far more to multi-media production on Linux than GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), the beloved drawing and painting program, though it seems that is all there is because it gets all the attention. GIMP is wonderful, but there is an entire universe of profession-level multi-media creation applications in all creative arenas: drawing and illustration, photography, desktop publishing, music, and movies and videos. Today we'll look at my recommend Linux distributions for multi-media production, graphics creation applications. Then in future installments in this series we'll dive into audio production, video production, CAD, 3D printing, and other industrial programs.Dream Studio...

At the tail end of the GPU Technology Conference in San Jose this week, graphics chip juggernaut and compute wannabe Nvidia divulged the salient characteristics of the high-end "Kepler2" GK110 GPU chips that are going to be the foundation of the two largest supercomputers in the world and that are no doubt going to make their way into plenty of workstations and clusters in the next several years. If you just want awesome graphics, then the dual-chip GTX 690 graphics card, which is based on the smaller "Kepler1" GK104 GPU chip, which Nvidia previewed back in March, is what you...

Need a little help with a graphics card problem. I purchased a graphics card, JATON. It is PCI (not PCI-E). It has a DMS-59 connector on it. Just found out that this card is used to support 2 monitors. I can get an adapter cable on line, DMS-59 to VGA. The cable would be a "Y" set up with 2 VGA connectors on it. Question is, can I run just one monitor, or do I have to run 2? My machine is an older Dell; Dimention 2350, Pentium 4, 1.5 ghz. I got this card cheap, real cheap. It is...

I'm in want of a new bumpersticker and multi-purpose graphic that sums it all up for me. I don't have a candidate that I am "all-in" for (yet) and I'm not about to let Obama's "Bitter Clingers" label of the great unwashed be forgotten. Are there any creative photoshop/graphics wizards out there that could generate an image that I could turn into a sticker? I am imagining "Bitter Clinger" with a cross for a "T" and the Glock logo for the "G". Anyone want to give it a shot? Thank you!
