A shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School (CVPA) Monday morning shortly after nine was “quickly stopped” by police inside the school. Fox2Now points out that “an adult female” and a teenager were killed in the shooting. The shooting suspect is deceased as well. Police indicate there were seven active officers on the campus and there was “an exchange of gunfire” between the suspect and police. KMOV reports that the shooting suspect had a long gun and was “a man around 20 years old.”

A Methodist Health System officer shot and injured a gunman in the Methodist Dallas Medical Center Saturday, ending a threat that had already resulted in two deaths. ABC News reported an individual shot and killed two hospital employees around 11 a.m. Saturday, prompting reports of an active shooter in the facility. Methodist Health System-affiliated police responded and an officer found the suspect and shot and injured him.

Former Vice President Joe Biden referred to his youngest son, Hunter, as the “smartest guy I know” during a campaign event on Wednesday. The Democrat nominee reportedly made the remarks during a surprise appearance at a virtual voter mobilization event with Oprah Winfrey, according to the UK Daily Mail. During the event, only a portion of which was made available to the traveling press, Biden opened up on how his children convinced him to accept the number two slot on the Democrat ticket in 2008.
  • Tucker Carlson Induces Cognitive Dissonance in Bill Nye the Science Guy over Climate Change (video)

Here is the best (and weirdest) example of cognitive dissonance you will ever see. The set-up is that Bill Nye, an engineer by training, and a proponent of science, is defending climate science on Tucker's show. The first weird thing is that Bill Nye starts by talking about cognitive dissonance being the only reason that anyone would be skeptical of global warming. But he seems to not understand the concept of cognitive dissonance because he believes only the other side could be experiencing it. The nature of cognitive dissonance is that you don't know you're in it when you're in...

This evening, the Obama campaign sent out its most desperate fundraising email yet. Following in the footsteps of their other emails cursing out Americans (e.g. “Let’s win the damn election”), and tweets deriding Obamacare opponents as “motherf***ers,” now the Obama campaign is spluttering mad over the Paul Ryan pick by the Romney campaign. Here’s their email, titled “What’s behind the Paul Ryan pick?”: Friend -- Congressman Paul Ryan is the poster boy for the extreme Republican leadership in a Congress whose overall approval rating is 12 percent. His plan to dismantle Medicare is deeply unpopular with the general public, and...

CANTON, Ohio -- Rudy is the quintessential average white guy, right down to his last name. "It literally is Guy," he said, laughing at the irony. Born in New Eagle and raised in Charleroi in Pennsylvania's Monongahela Valley, Guy comes from a long line of Democrats. "My grandfather worked at Corning Glass, my father worked in the mines, the steel mill and finally at Corning," he recalled. "The family always had union ties, and that usually meant a tie to the Democratic Party." That's no longer true for him, however: "As my life started to improve financially, I realized that...

From the Morning Jolt for this Tuesday: Biden Apparently Believes Obama Negotiates With Terrorists Now Somewhere along the line, in our modern political discourse, “terrorist” became a synonym for “someone who won’t give me what I want.” After the debt ceiling deal was struck, it took Vice President Joe Biden milliseconds and milliseconds to reinforce the suggestion that the administration and their allies are so morally myopic that they are almost genetically incapable of understanding what actually motivates the Tea Parties and others worried about runaway spending: “Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday,...

Lawrence Guy is smart. You know this because in the spring semester of last year he got a GPA of nearly 3.5 in his classes at Arizona State, which allowed Guy, then a defensive tackle on the football team, to wear a patch on his jersey distinguishing him as one of the school’s “Scholar Ballers.” You know this too because when he grows comfortable with someone and his shyness falls away, the words spill out in torrents and his eyes shine bright. And then you see why his former football position coach, a grizzled-sounding man now working in the NFL,...

When Mark Barrett moved to Guy, Arkansas, he had no idea the tiny town of less than 300 was nearly as rocking as the Southern California community he'd left behind. Six years and hundreds of seismic events later, Barrett says he's feeling it more and more. Since September, seismologists have recorded 700 temblors in the area. The largest in the current swarm, a 4.3-magnitude quake, shook the town at 2:13 a.m. Friday. The tremors appear to be rumbling through town with greater frequency. The Arkansas Geological Survey has recorded 50 quakes in and around Guy since Sunday. That includes Friday...

Last night in front of an audience of hundreds at a presentation at the University of Southern California, TV personality Bill Nye — popularly known as the "Science Guy" — collapsed midsentence as he walked toward a podium. Early indications are that Nye is OK, but what's odd about the incident isn't so much Nye's slight health setback as the crowd's reaction. Or, more precisely, its nonreaction, according to several accounts. It appears that the students in attendance, rather than getting up from their seats to rush to Nye's aid, instead pulled out their mobile devices to post information about...

Sarah Palin's attack on the "Family Guy" TV show and its portrayal of a young woman with Down syndrome has backfired, to a degree. The actress who did the voice-over for the young woman has hit back at Palin. From CNN News: Andrea Fay Friedman, the actress who herself has Down syndrome, said the scene was merely meant to be sarcastic. "I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor," she said in an e-mail to the New York Times. "I thought the line 'I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska' was very funny....

The booths at the Saturday Corvallis Farmers’ Market have a wild mix of fresh produce, tasty food, plants and flowers. But this week, a table just outside the bazaar offered something more bizarre — “Meet a Black Guy.” Those who participated in the free service could chat with 21-year-old Corvallis resident Jeff Oliver, and get pictures taken with him.
