Maybe he should have gone to the debate after all. Instead of joining his two main opponents for the U.S. Senate - Democrat Ned Lamont and Republican Alan Schlesinger - at Quinnipiac University, Joe Lieberman opted for a relaxing night of campaigning, beer in hand, at Mayor Mike's in downtown Hartford. It was a short stop. It was also not very relaxing. Lieberman lasted maybe 15 minutes before he was heckled from the restaurant by young Lyndon LaRouche supporters, who kept popping up along the bar like gophers coming out of their holes.

(Hartford-AP, Nov. 3, 2006 5:05 PM) _ Senator Joe Lieberman says his independent re-election bid has created some bruised feelings with his colleague and friend, Senator Christopher Dodd. Dodd is backing Lieberman's rival, Ned Lamont. Lieberman says he understands that people are playing by a partisan political playbook, but he's disappointed because he and Dodd are friends. But he says life will go on and the two will work together because that's their job. Lieberman is running as an independent after losing a Democratic primary to Lamont. Lieberman is ahead in the polls by double digits. Many Democrats like Dodd...
  • Lieberman bid could boost GOP in House races

STAMFORD, Connecticut (AP) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman alienated plenty of Democrats with his independent bid. Just imagine their anger if he costs them control of the House. The three-term Connecticut senator is aggressively pursuing Republican and independent voters in his race against Democratic nominee Ned Lamont and little-known Republican Alan Schlesinger. That targeted appeal -- and the potential for a strong GOP turnout -- could save three GOP House incumbents struggling to return to Washington.SnipLieberman's coattails could carry the GOP incumbents to re-election and undercut Democratic hopes of majority control of the House.

Fox & Friends this morning are reporting that Lieberman may caucus with the GOP if he wins re-election to the Senate from Connecticut as an Independent. This may be the reason why Bush and many prominent Republicans are singing the praises of Senator Joe Lieberman.

Paul Newman weighs in for Lamont By ANDREW MIGA, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 1 minute ago Ned Lamont may be trailing in the polls, but he's got one of America's biggest celebrities going to bat for him: Paul Newman. The actor appears in a new 30-second TV spot for Lamont, who is running for a Senate seat, the campaign announced Thursday. "It's tough times out there, and Connecticut needs someone who is young, fresh and spunky," Newman, a longtime resident of Westport, Conn. urges voters. Lamont is 52. Incumbent Sen. Joseph Lieberman (news, bio, voting record) is 64. Newman also...

Those who claim they can read the national tea leaves for the upcoming election, are going to have to take a moment to explain Joe Lieberman. And go slow, because I'm obviously not getting this. You remember a few months ago when Joe-mentum was stopped dead. AP Box o' Joe? OK, we said he was a pretty decent guy. We didn't say he was cool. Up and coming challenger Ned Lamont channeled all that anti-Iraq frustration we've been hearing about and booted Lieberman off the Democratic ticket in the race for the Senate seat Lieberman held for three terms. Quite...
