U.S. Army warns of potential 'airborne' Ebola Virus could be transmitted by means other than contact NEW YORK – While Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization officials continue to insist Ebola cannot be transmitted by air from one person to another, an Army manual clearly warns the virus could be an airborne threat in certain circumstances. The handbook published by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, USAMRID, titled “USAMRID’s Medical Management of Biological Casualties Handbook,” is now in its seventh edition. The most recent edition was published in 2011, with more than 100,000 copies distributed...

Kevin LoriaOctober 6, 2014 The idea that Ebola could go airborne is terrifying. Once you are infected, few diseases are more likely to kill you — and death by hemorrhagic fever, diarrhea and vomiting often accompanied by bleeding and organ failure, sounds particularly awful. At present it's hard to get infected — healthcare workers and family members caring for victims are at highest risk — but that would change if the virus were to mutate so that it could be transmitted through the air while keeping its present lethality. That's a nightmare scenario. But it's more the stuff of bad...

(CNSNews.com) - The Virginia Hospital Center—which is less than seven miles from the White House and is rated one of the nation’s Top 100 hospitals—turned away a suspected Ebola patient on Friday without examining her and without explaining to the fire department that brought her to the hospital in an ambulance why they would not admit her, according to the Arlington County Fire Department. The department estimates that its ambulance waited outside the Virginia Hospital Center for 20 minutes before being directed to Inova Fairfax Hospital, Lt. Sarah-Maria Marchegiani, a spokesperson for the Arlington County Fire Department told CNSNews.com. The...

On Saturday October 4 at around 12.30pm, I found myself sitting in an isolation room in Texas Presbyterian Hospital ER. A few moments earlier the doctor on duty had waved from his desk outside my glass box, identifying himself as the medic speaking to me over the phone. He had placed a call to the Center for Disease Control, he explained, and was just waiting to hear back from them before deciding how to proceed. I thanked him and told him I sincerely hoped I was wasting his time. Certainly under normal circumstances the symptoms I was experiencing would not...

Dr. Betsy McCaughey appeared on Fox just after she had attend a CDC conference call with hospitals this afternoon. Host Stuart Varney asked her what it would take to set up 50 hospitals to be ready for Ebola. McCaughey’s answer is stunning. According to her, after the CDC outlined its preparation strategy, one hospital administrator responded, “What you’re telling us would bankrupt my hospital!” She said that that administrator represents a Southern California hospital. McCaughey noted that there was no word on the call of who would pay for hospitals to get themselves ready for Ebola patients. And then she...

A Brooklyn teenager was rushed to the hospital yesterday after showing symptoms consistent with Ebola. The 14-year-old boy had a fever and was feeling fluish according to officials who spoke to the Daily News. He was brought to Brookdale Hospital where tests are being run to see if he has the disease. He is currently in isolation. The boy was apparently in Sudan for two weeks and hospitalized there as well, but lied to officials about being sick so he could fly home. Now, NYPD is working with officials to see if any of his family members should also be...

--snip-- Texas Health contracts with Epic Systems for its electronic-medical-records (EMR) system. Epic was founded by billionaire Judy Faulkner, a top Obama donor---the dominant EMR player in the US health-care market. The firm’s Top 10 PAC recipients are all Dem/lefty outfits: DCCC got nearly $230,000; DNC Services Corp. nearly $175,000.......Obama campaign-finance bundler, Faulkner, served as an adviser to WH health-information-tech guru David Blumenthal--in charge of dispensing EMR subsidies. Faulkner also served on the same committee Blumenthal chaired. Epic and other large firms lobbied aggressively for nearly $30 billion in 2009 stimulus subsidies. Epic has been the subject of rising industry...

Veterans at the Shreveport, La., Veterans Affairs hospital have been going without toothbrushes, toothpaste, pajamas, sheets and blankets while department officials spend money on new Canadian-made furniture, televisions to run public service announcements and solar panels, a Watchdog investigation has revealed. Sources inside the hospital told Watchdog.org that patients also have had to contend with substandard care, as many nurses spend less time on work than on cell phones, iPods or accessing personal data on hospital computers.

He ran into considerable opposition, but over the course of time, he has converted many. He says that he has obtained over 400 signatures from coworkers on a petition for the Hospital to change its policy.</p>

The next time you visit a hospital, it is your wallet that may end up hurting the most. All over the United States, it has become common practice for hospitals to wildly inflate medical bills. For example, it has been reported that some hospitals are charging up to 30 dollars for a single aspirin pill. And as you will see below, some victims report being billed tens of thousands of dollars for a non-surgical hospital visit that lasts only a few hours. When something is seriously wrong with us, most of us never stop to ask our health professionals how...

CHICAGO (AP) — The patient had been shot on the streets of Chicago, but when Dr. Jared Bernard stood over his open body in the operating room, he could see that the single bullet had unleashed the same kind of massive infection inflicted by roadside bombs in Afghanistan. Although the wounded man lay in a modern American hospital, saving his life would be no different than caring for a soldier wounded by a bomb exploding under a Humvee. That's why the Navy is sending its doctors, nurses and medics to Stroger Hospital, a Cook County facility that, in its own...

"A West Point man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after he and a friend were attacked by a group of around 20 people in a Huddle House parking lot, police said, potentially as retaliation for Michael Brown's killing. Ralph Weems IV, who is white, was injured early Saturday but is now in fair condition at North Mississippi Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Genie Causey said. A relative, Bradley Barnes of Madison, told The Associated Press by telephone on Sunday that his brother-in-law was in a medically induced coma following brain surgery. 'They're going to try and wake him up...

The Israel Security Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet) has published a report on Hamas’s use of public buildings as cover for operational activity. The ISA said that interrogation of captives taken in Operation Protective Edge gave a “somewhat disturbing” picture of Hamas’s use of civilians and public buildings to carry out military activity, “out of an assumption that Israel will avoid hitting them.” …
