A conservative group which helped organize the famous March on Washington says it was left out of the seminal civil rights event's 50th anniversary celebration held Wednesday. The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) was one of the six big organizing groups who coordinated the 1963 March on Washington 50 years ago. However, CORE says none of the event organizers at this year's remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech invited anyone from the black conservative organization, particularly CORE's chairman and '63 March on Washington alum Roy Innis (pictured), to speak.

Andy Sweeney posted the selfie on Reddit, hoping to find the positive side to the violence that left him with a broken smile on a Northeast Portland street last weekend. In the photo, the 20-year-old bicycle commuter and recent transplant from the Midwest flashed two shattered front teeth. "Some kids threw a traffic cone at me while I was riding my bike down MLK," Sweeney wrote next to the photo of his now-jagged incisors. "Any other (expletive) areas I should avoid?" Portland police, however, are taking Saturday night's unprovoked attack of Sweeney near Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and...

US President Barack Obama will mark the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech by speaking from the same steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The August 28 event in the US capital will take place on the exact spot where King delivered his famous address on the same day in 1963.

Many believe the Zimmerman case has shown how far America is from realising the dream articulated by King in 1963.Plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech are being stepped up in the wake of an angry reaction over the decision to acquit George Zimmerman over the shooting of Trayvon Martin, and a recent decision by the supreme court to strike down key sections of a law that protects black voters. Senior figures in the civil rights movement have told the Guardian that fast-escalating resentment over the treatment of black Americans will result...

Four people reportedly shot along Martin Luther King, Jr. parade route in New Orleans (CBS/AP) NEW ORLEANS - At least four people were shot Monday in New Orleans along the route of the city's Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial March. CBS affiliate WWLTV reports that, according to neighbors, gunshots rang out less than an hour after the parade passed through the neighborhood. New Orleans police responded to the gunfire at about 1 p.m. in the Central City neighborhood, near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and LaSalle Street. Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas was among those who responded to...

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation. Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity. But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the...

WASHINGTON - The Rev. Al Sharpton says Glenn Beck and others have a right to rally in Washington, but they don't have a right to distort Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision. Sharpton told reporters Friday that Beck and his supporters are holding an anti-government rally advocating for states' rights on Saturday. He says that goes against the message in King's famous "I Have a Dream Speech," in which the civil rights leader appealed to the federal government to ensure equality. Beck's Restoring Honor rally will be held at the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his 1963 speech. Sharpton and others...

Glenn Beck hopes to make history. He is convinced his Restoring Honor rally, planned for August 28th, will cause shockwaves unfelt in the country since the mid 1750s, the time of the Great Awakening. As I pointed out in an earlier post, Beck is fond of preacher George Whitefield, though I think a strong case was made that Whitefield’s theology and Beck’s brand of pluralism are as different as black is from white. It is probably no coincidence Beck’s rally was scheduled for the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, also given in front of...

A Texas mother of twins got the shock of her life when doctors revealed that her 11-month-old boys do not have the same father. Mia Washington decided to get some expert advice when she and her partner noticed that twins Justin and Jordan had different facial features. Paternity tests then revealed what had happened — two eggs had been fertilized by two different sperm and there was a 99.99% chance the twins had different dads. Doctors at the DNA lab in Dallas, Texas had never seen such a result. Washington later admitted she had had an affair and got pregnant...

I laughed and thought it was a photoshop job. After all, nobody is this stupid . . . right? It is not so much that they misspelled a word, lots of people have spelling issues. It is they misspelled the key word, misspelled it differently on each sign, happened to be standing right next to each other (without noticing that the other one spelled it "incorrectly"), and somebody just happened to get a photo of it. More . . .

Tomorrow is the anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King's, I Have A Dream, speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Given the design I have seen, the props are going to represent the Lincoln Memorial. My take on the speech tomorrow is that he is going to attempt to make himself appear as the fulfillment of Dr King's speech.

Sometime late this summer, after comprehensive immigration "reform" dies on a 12-9 vote in a House committee, the conservatives and populists who are leading the opposition should toast their champion, the pol who made their victory inevitable: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi is in a big jam right now. Democrats took over Congress in January, riding a wave of voter disgust with Republican rule in Washington D.C. But the public never gave the Dems any sort of honeymoon, and a recent Gallup Poll had a shocking finding: Congress, even under new stewardship, was less popular than the highly unpopular president....

MANATEE - A 6-year-old boy remained in a shocked state Saturday, one day after he was bit by a pit bull while retrieving his backpack from a neighbor's home. Kevin Banks and his cousin were walking to a neighbor's home in Pride Park just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, when Banks was bit twice in the chest and nipped once in the face, according to his mother, Tiffany Jones. The two ran back home, "crying at the top of their lungs," Jones said. Banks, who attends Daughtrey Elementary, hasn't talked much since the attack. "He won't say much more than two...

Here are my predictions for August 22 (actually August 21). I’ve analyzed over 10,000 articles and a list of books since 9/11. Here is my analysis, listed as predictions, as of 1 AM PT 8/21. I don’t reference all my sources in the interest of space. 1. Terrorists will probably attack Israel with WMD on 8/21 or 8/22. Most likely time is on 8/21 between 9 AM and 2 PM US Pacific Time. This time corresponds to the Islamic religious holiday of the night of Rajab 27, which begins at sunset local time (ie around 9 AM PT US). The...

In the news: The National Endowment for the Arts has granted $100,000 to an artist to create an art work to be called "Piss Mohammed." * * * The Brooklyn Museum will sponsor an exhibit in which the Prophet Mohammed is covered in dung and cut-outs of male genitalia. * * * Playwright Terence McNally’s new show will soon appear on Broadway. In Brokeback Mohammed, Mohammed and his early followers are depicted as homosexuals who whose idea of prayer was to form “daisy chains” facing Mecca. The play could not have been produced without the support of fellow playwright Tony...

I have been a student of war since 1968 and became a Marine in the 1970s as a teenager. In part because of my unusual, enhanced career path as a Marine infantry unit leader with extensive special operations and counterterrorism experience, and because of my access to some of the foremost asymmetric warfare and terrorism experts alive today, I have been able to formulate an 10-point plan that, if strictly adhered to, will allow the United States and its allies to win the war on terror sooner than expected. Points 1 through 9 are mandatory in that failure to accomplish...

On a day meant to celebrate a great man and his legacy, all Americans should be grateful. We should all be grateful for our freedom, for our quality of life, for our neighbors, and for this entire country we call home. Yet every year new outcries of inequality and hatred arise on this day. What a shame for Dr. King’s legacy.
