Only in Chicago: How the Rod Blagojevich Scandal Engulfed Illinois; Embroiled Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and Jesse Jackson, Jr.; and Enthralled the Nation. Natasha Korecki's book raises the question of whether Jesse Jackson Jr., the congressman son of the famed civil rights leader, plotted to arrange a pardon for Blagojevich from President Barack Obama. It was the fall of 2008 and the highest law enforcement agent in the country headed to the Windy City. Sensitive wiretaps were up and FBI agents were covertly recording what could turn out to be a spectacular public corruption case. Chicago agents were working lengthy...

Detroit - Remember “sticker shock”? After several years of heavily discounting their products in a desperate bid to keep assembly lines rolling, automakers are finding themselves back in the driver’s seat again – pushing prices to record levels. And it’s “not a blip,” warns one senior analyst, who expects the trend to continue for several years. The good news for shoppers is that trade-ins are also yielding better prices – and while that new car, truck or crossover may command more money than ever before it’s also likely to include significantly more features and markedly better fuel economy than

WASHINGTON – New government data shows the Obama administration has sharply increased immigration prosecutions and has stepped up cases against white-collar crimes, drug violations, organized crime and official corruption. An analysis compiled by a private group using government data also found that there has been a decline in the Justice Department's felony prosecutions aside from immigration cases, particularly outside the Southwest. The study was released Tuesday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a private, nonpartisan group based at Syracuse University that compiled the data from the first two years of the Obama administration and the last two years of the...

The number of filings rose to 770,117 from 675,351 a year earlier, the group said, citing data from the National Bankruptcy Research Center. Sam Gerdano, the ABI's executive director, said the increase stemmed from years of rising consumer debt levels and low savings rates, together with high unemployment and the nation's housing difficulties. Though consumer filings dropped 8 percent in June from May to 126,270, Gerdano projected there will be more than 1.6 million new bankruptcy filings in all of 2010. Moreover, Democratic enthusiasm for voting this fall fell a point, while enthusiasm among Republicans stayed about fifteen points higher. For those whose shark metaphors stalled on "Jaws," "jumping the shark" refers to the moment when something, usually a dramatic production, runs - or strays from - its course. Coined by Jon Hein (jumptheshark.com), the phrase evolved from the episode of "Happy Days" where the show's writers, apparently out of ideas, had Fonzie literally jump a shark while water skiing. Fri Jul 8, 9:30 AM ET ISTANBUL, Turkey - First one sheep jumped to its death. Then stunned Turkish shepherds, who had left the herd to graze while they had breakfast, watched as nearly 1,500 others followed, each leaping off the same cliff, Turkish media reported. In the end, 450 dead animals lay on top of one another in a billowy white pile, the Aksam newspaper said. Those who jumped later were saved as the pile got higher and the fall more cushioned, Aksam reported. "There's nothing we can do. They're all wasted," Nevzat Bayhan, a member of one of...

GET OUT OF GOLD! Head for the exits!Commentary: Gold has likely topped By Tim W. Wood, Cycles News & Views Last Update: 1:19 PM ET Dec. 9, 2004 GULF SHORES, Ala. (Cycles) -- It's truly amazing to watch the sentiment pendulum as it swings from one extreme to the other. At the 2001 bottom, everyone everywhere was totally disgusted with gold. When I suggested buying gold I was met with rejection, "Gold is dead" to quote my critics. Here we are some four years later, gold topped $458 last week - a three year high. On Wednesday, gold fell more...

Which stocks will jump next? This jumpstart has the electrifying feel of autumn 2002, when stocks that had been designated for disaster by the bear market suddenly sprang to attention and ran for 15 months. How can you identify more names that should rock before they get away? If the market continues to move up, one class of stocks that tends to do well in this environment are major-index constituents that have the lowest absolute price, the highest short interest and the worst record year to date. I have shown this effect several times -- most recently in early spring...

It's Friday and I'm feeling great! I want to get Freeper's opinion on something that I've noticed as of late. Has the Drudge Report jumped the shark? The content of his site has been very lame and late in posting. With the political "spit balls" firing back and forth, it seems that his coverage has not been good. It appears to me as a trend. Just my opinion but I would like to hear yours.
