  • Nevada Early Voting is Starting and Day One Results Are Out

    10/21/2012 5:22:02 AM PDT · by Perdogg · 18 replies
Early voting is a new phenomenon that is has great implications on the final election outcome. Despite this, I don’t much enjoy blogging it. The numbers get updated sporadically, there is an inherent uncertainty in what the requests or submissions actually mean and the sample sizes are really small. This makes drawing conclusions not much better than just plain old guess work until a critical mass of votes have accumulated. And by that time someone else has already done a better job analyzing the data than I could so I just leave it to them. One of the only reasons...

First of all, before anyone gets upset, this thread is not a complaint, not a critique. FR works fine for me. I'm a happy camper. But I am curious as to how others navigate around the site, and what, if any tweaks might be worth considering; and maybe provide some food for thought for the folks in charge.

Good morning and happy June to my gardening FRiends and fellow gardeners! You may have noticed that I titled last week's thread "Keywords", and then totally forgot to write the first word about the topic. That illustrates perfectly how frazzled my mind is these days. As I was getting ready to hit the post button, I kept thinking there was something I was forgetting, but finally convinced myself that it probably wasn't *that* important, and I posted the thread. I apologize. There has been more than once that great information has been posted by one of our members, but I can't...

Have you ever wondered if the government — or more specifically, the Department of Homeland Security — is monitoring your Twitter or Facebook posts? If the answer's "yes," give yourself a pat on the back because you're right and not simply paranoid. There's even a list of keywords for which subcontractors hired by the DHS check social networks. (Snip) Technically this monitoring is not done by the DHS, but subcontractors who are specifically hired to "monitor social networks–use to generate real-time IOI reports," of course. Internal policies demand that those reports are stripped of most personally identifiable information (PII), though

I use this handy feature to quickly get to groups of tagged articles. A reminder of how FR's formating procedure can make your search for numerous posted articles about Herman Cain easier. 1. At the top of the "Forum" page, enter "Cain" in the keyword search function. A list of articles with that keyword appears. 2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the link "Add to My Page" 3. Click the link and "My Page Layout" appears. 4. Chose the position (weight) on the sidebar where articles about Cain are to appear. 5. Chose the number (size) of article titles that will appear in that block. 6. Click "Modify" to...

O.K. I admit it. I'm a big fan of Sarah, especially after her appearance on Hannity last night. Over the past few years, a new technology has sprung up: Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. It is the creation of Internet Marketers, and Spammers, who seek ways to get our attention, to defeat spam blockers, and to zero in on our individual demographic and perhaps more important, psychographic profiles. At its worst, it is an invasion of privacy on an unprecedented scale. It invades e-mail by using spyware to build specialized vocabularies for every customer. It looks over browser inquiries, even private correspondence with commercial entities. Then, SEO techniques are able to help create messages, using key words, or...

I have noticed that a lot of times, certain articles are censored out by internet filters. keywords such as fascism, liberalnazis, stormfront and nambla are censored even though they are articles about nambla or describing fascism. To me it sounds like a good way to block the public from viewing the similarities of Liberal Democrat's and Hitler's Nazis. I think it might be a good idea to remove certain keywords so that there is no confusion between websites advocating fascism and those like this one that refute and expose it. the mods might want to do that and anyone here...

In a large international trial volunteers with "pre-diabetes" taking rosiglitazone, sold under the brand name Avandia, were 60 per cent less likely than those on placebos to develop the full disease. The drug, already prescribed to those with Type 2 diabetes, was also found to help patients return to normal blood sugar...

The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

Use this feature as an ad hoc topic system and replacement for the deprecated bump list register.
