OK, we keep hearing the Governor's race is neck and neck, with Tim Kaine possibly ahead. Heck, I live in NoVa, and have YET to hear one Jerry Kilgore ad, and yet hear 4-5 Tim Kaine ads on the drive in and the drive home. So I'm getting a bit worried. Any GOOD, RELIABLE sources of how not just the Governor's race, but Lt. Governor (I **hate** Lesbian, excuse me, Leslie Byrne with a passion), Attorney General, and the General Assembly as well ? I'm actually worried that with Warner in the Governor's office, and the current crop of RINOs...

For most of the past year, Virginia governor's race has been focused on issues like taxes, transportation and immigration. But Republican candidate Jerry W. Kilgore has in the last few weeks based his appeal to voters on one specific charge: that his opponent, Democratic Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine, won't enforce the death penalty. Kilgore recently launched televised ads which have captured attention - and heated controversy - by arguing that Kaine cannot be trusted as governor to enforce the death penalty, a charge that Kaine has repeatedly denied. The charge has dominated headlines three weeks before Election Day, but the...

Three weeks from Election Day and a turn in the polls as Democrat Tim Kaine for the first time takes the lead in our exclusive SurveyUSA tracking poll. The statewide poll, taken of 750 Virginians over the weekend, shows Kaine leading with 47% of the vote. Republican Jerry Kilgore has 45%. Trailing far behind is independent candidate Russ Potts with 4%. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%, meaning the race is a statistical dead heat. But our tracking does show a steady climb for Kaine. In March and June Kilgore was ahead by 10 points. By...

Richmond HISTORY IS NOT on Jerry Kilgore's side. The Virginia governor's election comes one year after a presidential election. And in the last seven races in Virginia, going back to 1977, the candidate of the party in the White House has lost. Kilgore, the former state attorney general, is, like Bush, a Republican. Still, Virginia is a Republican state (both U.S. senators, 8 of 11 House members, solid majorities in the state senate and house). But the governor's race is different. It's partly a referendum on the president.Popular presidents don't help much. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton saw governors in...

Republican Jerry Kilgore is a candidate for the governorship of Virginia. He wants to represent you next year in Richmond, and yet he has refused to answer Gun Owners of America's candidate survey. You have the right to insist that he answer his survey. GOA's survey contains a written pledge for candidates to make. Candidates promise to support, or not support all kinds of gun control -- from opposing gun show bans to supporting Vermont-style concealed carry. GOA's survey asks candidates to take specific, on-record positions on all kinds of gun-related issues. But Jerry Kilgore is refusing to take a position...

There's always a dispute over whether the elections held one year after a presidential election are politically significant. You can argue it both ways, and once you know the results, you can pretty well guess which way each party will argue. Still, it's worth taking a look at them, for voters will be choosing the mayor of the nation's largest city, the governor with the greatest institutional power (in New Jersey), and the governor whose jurisdiction includes Washington, D.C.'s Northern Virginia suburbs. Also, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger put several propositions on the California ballot. If passed, they will significantly reduce...

"The National Rifle Association yesterday endorsed Republican Jerry W. Kilgore to be Virginia's next governor, while members of a key gun-rights lobby fumed over remarks about their leadership made by the Kilgore campaign.... But some grass-roots members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) say they will not vote for Mr. Kilgore Nov. 8 because one of his staffers said the VCDL's president has "no credibility" on Second Amendment issues. "I am pro-life, reeling from the great tax hike of 2004, a staunch Second Amendment defender and wild horses could not drag me to vote for Kilgore," said Mike Downey,...

Kilgore Endorsed by National Rifle Association NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre Joins Kilgore in Tour of Virginia October 6, 2005 Contact: Tim Murtaugh or Tucker Martin - (804) 421-9966 WINCHESTER - Former Attorney General and Republican nominee for Governor Jerry Kilgore today received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association. Kilgore welcomed the announcement during a tour of Virginia with NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre, who made campaign stops with Kilgore at rallies in Winchester, Weyers Cave, Roanoke, Abingdon and Danville. Jerry Kilgore is a lifelong supporter of the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. Some of his...

The Virginia Citizens Defense League is non-partisan. We are only asking all the candidates to take a position on specific issues of concern to Virginia's gun owners, so that gun owners might make an informed choice. We believe this to be a reasonable request, and remain perplexed by the hostility that this has generated from the Kilgore campaign. The emails on which I have been cc'ed from gun owners across the state run the gamut from *pleading* with Mr. Kilgore to answer the VCDL survey and take a stand on gun rights, to furious gun owners saying that they have...

A key Virginia gun rights lobby said yesterday that it will not endorse a candidate in the gubernatorial race but is urging its members not to sit out the election, as many did in 2001... Mr. Kilgore will not be seeking the group's [VCDL's] endorsement, campaign spokesman Tucker Martin said. "While we have great respect for the members of the VCDL, their President Phillip Van Cleave unfortunately has no credibility on Second Amendment issues and that is why we did not participate," Mr. Martin said, declining to elaborate.

September 30, 2005--The race to be Virginia's next Governor is dead even with Republican Jerry Kilgore and Democrat Tim Kaine each earning 45% of the statewide vote. Two weeks ago, Kilgore had a three point advantage over Kaine. In August, Kilgore held a six-point lead. Independent candidate Russell Potts continues to attract five percent (5%) of the statewide vote. Barring a major surprise, he will not be included in the televised debate scheduled for October 9. Only candidates who have at least 15% support in the polls will be included. Both major party candidates have added supporters in the past...
