Two former executives at a government-funded youth organization whose finances were scrutinized after it diverted money to the liberal radio network Air America were charged Thursday with misappropriating $1.2 million of the non-profit's funds. Charles Rosen, a former executive director at the Gloria Wise Community Center, and his former assistant director, Jeffrey Aulenbach, face charges of grand larceny and obstructing governmental administration. Rosen was also charged with forgery. New York City's Department of Investigation, which investigated the nonprofit for two years, said the men improperly took more than $290,000 from the organization for their personal use, on top of their...

August 22, 2005 -- AIR America, the much-hyped liberal media ven ture that was supposed to revolutionize talk radio, is "solvent and apparently stable": So claim the gullible cheerleaders at The New York Times, who made that unsubstantiated assertion in a recent glowing profile of Air America host Janeane Garofalo. But behind the fawning headlines and celebrity kiss-ups is a tale of astounding financial and legal chaos. The city Department of Investigation and state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer continue to conduct separate probes into a dubious loan scheme involving Air America and the Bronx-based Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club....

(CNSNews.com) - National Public Radio has decided to use a philanthropist's generous donation for a "major expansion" of its news operation. NPR announced on Tuesday that it would spend $15 million over the next three years on additional reporters, editors, producers and managers; as well as new domestic and international bureaus. The 2004-2007 expansion will be funded in part by interest from the $225 million in bequests that NPR received from the late philanthropist Joan Kroc, the widow of the man who founded McDonald's. Joan Kroc died in October 2003. NPR has described her bequest as "the largest monetary gift...

Feeling sad and having just heard the news that President Ronald Reagan had just passed this past Saturday June 5, 2004 at 5:00 PM I switched my car radio from my local news radio to my local NPR, PRI affiliate to get my fill of the left by listening to A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. I can normally make it through the live shows but this last show I had to turn off. The show began with ridicule and cheers from the audience when the Host (Mr. Garrison Keillor) announced that the former President had past away within...

IF THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF BLACKSMITHS AND BUGGYWHIP MANUFACTURERS had held a convention in 1910, in those last sullen moments before the Horseless Carriage put them all out of business, then this is what it must have felt like--the same forced cheerfulness laid over the same defeated air, the same stiff upper lip at the prospect of the inescapable end. Outside the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort, on the Florida coast near Tampa Bay, the beach was streaked with wind and black thunderheads stacked up along the horizon. Inside the hotel, members of the Association of Music Personnel in Public Radio...

A response to a letter sent to HP investor relations: I apologize to your offense to the radio commercial airing on an Air America affiliate. It is not the view of HP to use mediums like TV or radio to support or disagree with any type of political agendas, and the overriding consideration in buying media is to reflect HP as a responsible and global corporate citizen of good standing. When purchasing media for use in communicating HP messages, we generally look for where are core target is and where we will garner the highest response rates. We do not...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Air America has shut its sales offices in Los Angeles and Chicago and is recasting its business plan, the network's president said on Wednesday as troubles beset the liberal talk show network. With Air America not broadcasting in those two cities after a financial dispute in April, network president Jon Sinton said, "There's not much sense in having sales offices in cities where you don't control a station." About 15 to 20 people were laid off in the closing of the sales offices, the latest sign of problems for Air America, launched on March 31...

Liberal radio is airing bad jokes and worst taste The United States "is on the slippery slope to theocratic fascism." "The Catholic Church has been secretly encouraging oral sex for years." Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld "ought to be tortured." President Bush should be taken out and shot. Those are a few nutso nuggets from the hosts of Air America Radio, which calls itself the new liberal voice.

In June, Pacifica Radio's Los Angeles station, KPFK-FM, hosted a thirty-hour marathon of Dr. Kwaku Person-Lynn's anti-Semitic "Afrikan Mental Liberation Weekend." It was the first time this once-annual program appeared for almost a decade. It had been banned by station management in 1993, after a long, hard-fought pressure campaign to remove it. Afrikan Mental Liberation Weekend typically includes claims that the Jews disproportionately participated in the slave trade and persecuted blacks; in the past, he responded to criticism by calling the regional director of the Anti-Defamation League a "psychotic, idiotic, European Jew." He has regularly played tapes by Nation of...

I live in South Florida and there is a VERY liberal radio talk show called The Randi Rhodes Show on WJNO 1290 AM. Today she is telling her audience about the Freepers! She keeps going on and on about how organized we are and how we skew polls and such. How we are all liars and scum because we are organized unlike those democrat sites/groups I won't mention. This bleeding heart liberal constantly talks about our President as a piece of filth. She calls him a liar, a thief and a murderer daily. She tells how the war in Iraq was a scam and how he is just plain stupid. I can't take it anymore!

"Media ombudsman." Now there's a job with real growth potential. With mainstream news organizations all getting tarred by the New York Times' ethical lapses, and commercial talk radio flagellating actual journalists as often as they hype their sponsors, there's no end of readers, viewers and listeners venting opinions on media inaccuracy, sloth and, of course, bias. Jeffrey Dworkin, ombudsman for National Public Radio, says he got 45,000 listener e-mails in 2002, "and that's not counting e-mails for Viagra, pornography and toner cartridges." Dworkin was a guest on Minnesota Public Radio recently, explaining NPR's standards for reporting and fairness. He amplified...

Right-wing crazies rule talk radio in America. So can a $10m plan to put liberal shock jocks on air ever work? Andrew Gumbel reports from Los Angeles Wanted: a mould-breaking, iconoclastic American talk-radio host who, unlike just about every other mould-breaking, iconoclastic talk-radio host on the US airwaves, also happens to be left-wing. This host should have the charisma and audience-pulling power to be as popular as the Rush Limbaughs, the Howard Sterns and the other tub-thumping right-wing crazies. Oh, and a sense of humour wouldn't do any harm, either. That's the challenge an increasingly despairing American left is setting...

Below is a list of 95 liberal talk hosts, liberal talk networks, liberal talk stations or syndicated liberal programs that are in the marketplace ALREADY. None garners an audience anywhere near the top conservative hosts. So what makes the liberals believe that they have been "shut out" of the marketplace o ideas? Could it be that ad $$$$ are an indicator of merit that decides who gets on? Could it be that when it comes to the marketplace of ideas, liberal shelves are either bare or hold stale goods? Any additions, deletions, comments or even your opinions are welcome on...

Oh dear, when will this awful war coverage stop - it's simply too much to bear for all those elitist snobs who depend on National Public Radio (NPR) to protect them from having to listen to ...gasp ... commercial radio broadcasts as the common people do. They want "thoughtful intelligence, that allows [NPR] listeners to live our lives from a reasonably aware perspective," as one unhappy listener wrote the public broadcasting network which is thoughtfully provided by U.S. taxpayers for those who need to be fed a diet of news slanted to satisfy its liberal and oh-so-superior audience. "We seem...
