Sarah Palin's profile might not be as high as it was a few years ago, but she apparently still serves as a convenient punching bag for the left. On today's Morning Joe, as Joe Scarborough railed against the allegedly "stupid" arguments NRA leader Wayne LaPierre made on Fox News Sunday yesterday, Mika Brzezinski muttered "something Sarah Palin would say." Consider that Palin had been in no way quoted, nor had her position on gun control been discussed. This was nothing more than a gratuitious shot at Palin, obviously still a bogeyman for the MSM. I post this item not to mock Mika Brzezinski. But her comments this morning were so illustrative of the liberal mindset--in ignoring fundamental principles of economics--that they are worth highlighting here. An entire Morning Joe segment had been devoted to discussing the wage dilemma in America. In the context of analyzing the right-to-work law soon to be signed in Michigan, the panel—apparently excepting Mika—agreed that we face hard choices here. On Morning Joe today, DSW managed to maintain a straight face while claiming that if women ruled Washington, they'd be able to fix the fiscal cliff because they "build consensus" and "put aside petty differences." Talk about the law of unintended consequences . . . On today's Morning Joe, Willie Geist interviewed an audience member sporting a T-shirt reading "Mika Made Me A Republican." The good-natured fellow explained that his daughters had made the T-shirt for him, that he was an independent who had voted for Perot, and that he watches Morning Joe daily because he likes to hear what the other side has to say. This morning, as MSNBC's Morning Joe came to an end, co-host Mika Brzezinski had some praise for colleagues and the company she works for. "We've been talking a lot this week about women and equal pay and all these issues," she said. Mika Brzezinski played Dem re-education camp counselor on Morning Joe today. When former Obama "car czar" Steve Rattner wandered off the reservation, expressing support for Scott Brown over Elizabeth Warren in the Massachussetts senate race, Brzezinski tried to herd him back into line, asking him to agree that Warren is a "fantastic" candidate. But Rattner would not obey. While conceding that she was "fantastic," Rattner made clear that he disagrees with her "on about 75% of her views on how the economy and the financial sector should be managed." Come November, there's no way Mika Brzezinski will be pulling the lever for Mitt Romney. But the MSNBC co-host had some sincere praise for the Republican standard-bearer this morning. Expressing frustration with Rudy Giuliani--the latest in a string of Republicans to have offered only a tepid endorsement of Romney--Brzezinski said that when she meets with Mitt and Ann, she comes away "excited," because they're "good people" and a "good family." Those imagining Mika Brzezinski as a straight-down-the-line liberal will be surprised by her comments on today's Morning Joe. Brzezinski didn't demur after Joe Scarborough described her as a Catholic who is "more conservative than many" on social issues. She proceeded to prove Scarborough's point by defending Rick Santorum's stance on contraception. The show had played two clips of Santorum in which he had called contraception "harmful to women" and said that contraception "is not OK." View the video here.

There was a surprisingly positive consensus about Rick Santorum on today's Morning Joe. Most remarkable was the observation by Obama fan Mika Brzezinski, who said "I don't agree with anything he says, but I like the guy." H/t to NewsBusters reader D.B. for audio assistance. Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist were also upbeat on Santorum, Scarborough astutely observing that "90% of Americans don't obsess on social issues," so that what some would cast as controversial past statements by Santorum won't hurt him nearly as much as might be imagined. In a softball interview with Sen. Debbie Stabenow on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough on Tuesday asked the Michigan Democrat if it was difficult for her to grill a friend and colleague, the former New Jersey Senator Jon Corzine, on the MF Global scandal. It wasn't long before the crew on the Morning Joe show good naturedly mocked that commercial. Today Joe Scarborough is no longer mocking that commercial. His show is emulating it in what is perhaps the most bizarre promo ever aired for a supposed news and commentary show.
