  • Mika: Wayne LaPierre's 'Stupid' Arguments 'Something Sarah Palin Would Say'

Sarah Palin's profile might not be as high as it was a few years ago, but she apparently still serves as a convenient punching bag for the left. On today's Morning Joe, as Joe Scarborough railed against the allegedly "stupid" arguments NRA leader Wayne LaPierre made on Fox News Sunday yesterday, Mika Brzezinski muttered "something Sarah Palin would say." Consider that Palin had been in no way quoted, nor had her position on gun control been discussed. This was nothing more than a gratuitious shot at Palin, obviously still a bogeyman for the MSM. • How Liberals Think: Mika Says 'It's Kind Of Simple'—Just Pay Workers More

I post this item not to mock Mika Brzezinski. But her comments this morning were so illustrative of the liberal mindset--in ignoring fundamental principles of economics--that they are worth highlighting here. An entire Morning Joe segment had been devoted to discussing the wage dilemma in America. In the context of analyzing the right-to-work law soon to be signed in Michigan, the panel—apparently excepting Mika—agreed that we face hard choices here. We can artificially preserve high wages for a relative few, or let wages seek their natural level, providing more jobs at lower pay. As Joe Scarborough put it, we have...
  • Wasserman Schultz: Women Politicians 'Build Consensus, Put Aside Petty Differences'

Should Debbie Wasserman Schultz lose her DNC job, there's always a stand-up gig at the Laff Shack . . . On Morning Joe today, DSW managed to maintain a straight face while claiming that if women ruled Washington, they'd be able to fix the fiscal cliff because they "build consensus" and "put aside petty differences." The litany of Wasserman Schultz's hyper-partisanship is long, exemplified by her allegation back in March that by adopting voter ID laws, Republicans want to "literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws." Oh, then claiming not to have said it. View the...

Talk about the law of unintended consequences . . . On today's Morning Joe, Willie Geist interviewed an audience member sporting a T-shirt reading "Mika Made Me A Republican." The good-natured fellow explained that his daughters had made the T-shirt for him, that he was an independent who had voted for Perot, and that he watches Morning Joe daily because he likes to hear what the other side has to say. Whatever it was that Mika has been saying, it has apparently driven him into the Romney camp. View the video here.
  • MSNBC Host 'Lucky' to Get Paid Half as Much as Her Male Co-Host

This morning, as MSNBC's Morning Joe came to an end, co-host Mika Brzezinski had some praise for colleagues and the company she works for. "We've been talking a lot this week about women and equal pay and all these issues," she said. "I have to say, in all seriousness, I'm very lucky to be working with you [co-host Joe Scarborough] and for a company [MSNBC] who has actually dealt with this problem transparently." Which basically amounts to Brzezinski saying that she is "lucky" to get paid half as much as Joe Scarborough. After all, according to the Daily Beast (whose...
  • Mika's Latest Benghazi Excuse: There Are Some Things Obama Admin Can't Talk About

So THAT'S why President Obama and his spox have seemed so shifty on the Benghazi attack that killed four Americans including the US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. There really is a perfectly good explanation for everything. It's just that--darn it!--state secrecy prevents the prez from telling us. Yeah, that's the ticket! Such was the sorry excuse that Mika Brzezinski suggested on today's Morning Jones. When Josh Green of Bloomberg recommended that President Obama get his story in order before Monday's debate, Mika mysteriously said: "there may be some parts of this which they can't talk about, which makes it...
  • Poll-Panicky Mika Fights With Producer To Lead With 'Binder-Gate'

Has the latest Gallup poll, showing Mitt Romney with a six-point national lead, panicked the Obama campaign and its MSM cohorts like Mika Brzezinski? Morning Joe's producer apparently wanted to lead today's show with a discussion of the latest bummer-for-Obama polls. But Brzezinski admitted to "fighting" with her producer, insisting instead on opening with a discussion of the "binder-gate" issue that President Obama was pushing out on the campaign trail yesterday. Joe Scarborough laughed off Mika's binder obsession as "ridiculous," saying continued Dem focus on it would lead to a Romney landslide. Even Mark Halperin, whom no one would accuse...

Did Frank Rich, back in his drama-critic days, ever pan an actor's performance this profoundly? Making it much worse is that Mika Brzezinski knows and avidly supports the actor in question: Barack Obama. On today's Morning Joe, Brzezinski exclaimed that Obama's disastrous debate performance "makes me sick to my stomach." Hat tip reader cobokat. View the video after the jump.
  • Mika Dismayed As Obama Czar Rattner Roots For Scott Brown

Mika Brzezinski played Dem re-education camp counselor on Morning Joe today. When former Obama "car czar" Steve Rattner wandered off the reservation, expressing support for Scott Brown over Elizabeth Warren in the Massachussetts senate race, Brzezinski tried to herd him back into line, asking him to agree that Warren is a "fantastic" candidate. But Rattner would not obey. While conceding that she was "fantastic," Rattner made clear that he disagrees with her "on about 75% of her views on how the economy and the financial sector should be managed." The way to Mika Brzezinski's heart is through her stomach. Or better put, through using the power of the state to limit what we can put into our stomachs. On Morning Joe today, Brzezinski declared her love for NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Why? Because of the Nanny-in-Chief's various food prohibitions, the latest being his limit on the size of soft drinks. Mika's view of those who support a "live free or die" libertarian view? "Idiots", she declared them. View the video here.

We've gone from "hope and change" to hoping blaming Bush will work. As Joe Scarborough said: at least Mika Brzezinski's honest about it. Asked whether she believed that President Obama's attempt to continue to blame George W. Bush for the country's economic woes will work as a campaign strategy, a seemingly dispirited Mika Brzezinski replied: "well, I'm hopin'". Scarborough burst into laughter. The Morning Joe panel was responding to a clip of President Obama from yesterday in which he analogized Republicans to people who had ordered an expensive restaurant meal, left just as Obama was sitting down to dinner, and...

Scott Walker scored an historic victory last night. The first governor ever to fend off a recall election. Winning in the face of a furious big labor effort against him. And so, to comment on this resounding Republican victory, Morning Joe . . . assembled a lefty panel and excluded any Republicans until the second hour, when Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell was finally allowed to put in an appearance. With Joe Scarborough off for the day, the panel consisted of Mika Brzezinski, former Dem congressman Harold Ford, Jr., former Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, Mike Allen of Politico, and just to...

Come November, there's no way Mika Brzezinski will be pulling the lever for Mitt Romney. But the MSNBC co-host had some sincere praise for the Republican standard-bearer this morning. Expressing frustration with Rudy Giuliani--the latest in a string of Republicans to have offered only a tepid endorsement of Romney--Brzezinski said that when she meets with Mitt and Ann, she comes away "excited," because they're "good people" and a "good family." "What's wrong with these people? It's just ridiculous," a palpably peeved Mika said of Giuliani and others who have emitted only mild praise of Mitt. View the video here.

Those imagining Mika Brzezinski as a straight-down-the-line liberal will be surprised by her comments on today's Morning Joe. Brzezinski didn't demur after Joe Scarborough described her as a Catholic who is "more conservative than many" on social issues. She proceeded to prove Scarborough's point by defending Rick Santorum's stance on contraception. The show had played two clips of Santorum in which he had called contraception "harmful to women" and said that contraception "is not OK." View the video here.

There was a surprisingly positive consensus about Rick Santorum on today's Morning Joe. Most remarkable was the observation by Obama fan Mika Brzezinski, who said "I don't agree with anything he says, but I like the guy." H/t to NewsBusters reader D.B. for audio assistance. Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist were also upbeat on Santorum, Scarborough astutely observing that "90% of Americans don't obsess on social issues," so that what some would cast as controversial past statements by Santorum won't hurt him nearly as much as might be imagined. Welcoming Chris Christie onto the set of Morning Joe today, Joe Scarborough warned Mika Brzezinski that the New Jersey governor "has come to straighten you out." In a softball interview with Sen. Debbie Stabenow on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough on Tuesday asked the Michigan Democrat if it was difficult for her to grill a friend and colleague, the former New Jersey Senator Jon Corzine, on the MF Global scandal. At one point, Scarborough enthused, "Senator Corzine. I like him a lot. We like him." Co-host Mika Brzezinski started out the interview by asking Stabenow on how they would be taking on the MF Global investigation. The Michigan senator essentially rattled off the hearing's witness list. Scarborough then interrupted, not to press Stabenow about what...
  • Bizarre Morning Joe Promo Emulates Mocked Cain Campaign Smoking Commercial

Remember the notorious Herman Cain commercial in which his campaign chief of staff concludes his talk by taking a puff on a cigarette? It wasn't long before the crew on the Morning Joe show good naturedly mocked that commercial. Today Joe Scarborough is no longer mocking that commercial. His show is emulating it in what is perhaps the most bizarre promo ever aired for a supposed news and commentary show.
