'Million Muslim march' idea falls by wayside By News-Sentinel Staff Last updated: Friday, Aug 19, 2005 - 06:58:44 am PDT The idea of a "million Muslim march" event in Lodi by Muslims to publicly denounce terrorism has officially died, say those involved. Envisioned in late June as a response to the allegations of terrorists in Lodi's Muslim community, the idea drew the interest of Mayor John Beckman, conservative radio host Mark Williams, the Sacramento chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations and local Muslims. Interest waned, however, when it became apparent the deep division in Lodi's Muslim community would...

On its website, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) proudly proclaims its mission -- "To stop the defamation of the Jewish people … to secure justice and fair treatment for all." But when a Democratic ex-president supports a march by the most notorious anti-Semite and hatemonger in America, the ADL runs for cover. Bill Clinton has endorsed Minister Louis Farrakhan’s Million More March (scheduled for October 14-15, 2005, in Washington, D.C.). The event will mark the 10th anniversary of Farrakhan’s so-called Million Man March of 1995. (The 100,000-man march probably would be more accurate.) In an exclusive interview with the Amsterdam News,...

Ex-president Bill Clinton is endorsing Nation of Islam chief Minister Louis Farrakahan's "Million More March" over the objections of the Anti-Defamation League, which is urging top politicians to avoid the October event because they say that both Farrakhan and march organizer Malik Zulu Shabazz are anti-Semitic. "I think this is a very positive idea,” Clinton told the Amsterdam News this week in an interview from his Harlem office. "I like the idea of a march," he continued. "It’s fine to be concerned about [homeland] security, but we also have to keep trying to make America strong and better here at...

Million Mom March comes up a bit short Nick Coleman, Star Tribune March 16, 2005 NICK0316 There were a million moms at the Cathedral of St. Paul Tuesday. Minus 999,979. Five years ago, the moms could have taken a run at a million. But five years ago is a long time, when you are talking about politics. Five years ago, the Million Mom March turned out thousands against guns in St. Paul and then, on a beautiful Mother's Day in May of 2000, assembled three-quarters of a million strong in Washington, D.C., to demand that the nation's lawmakers put an...

This is a breaking news situation. A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased. The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large. I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

A Springfield woman who began lobbying against gun violence after her son was shot to death in 2002 was arrested last week when police allegedly found an illegal gun and drugs in her home. Annette "Flirty" Stevens, however, said Monday she's innocent, and the arrest is an attempt by police to get her to give up information about unsolved crime in the city. The handgun, which had a scratched-off serial number, and drugs allegedly were discovered Friday morning inside Stevens' home in the 2500 block of South 15th Street. Authorities said they obtained a search warrant for the residence as...

The goal of gun control is not to actually control guns and make the world a safer place, but to control people. It is not as important for you can pass a criminal background check so much as it is that you feel obligated to ask the state for permission to buy a gun. Liberals know gun control laws will not stop criminals, but it will erode the sense of independence and self reliance of regular people until they feel that they can do nothing that does not meet government approval.

Touring the country in an effort to renew the 10-year-old ban on so-called assault weapons, the numerically challenged Million Mom March has been conducting a campaign built largely on fiction. As far back as 1988, gun prohibitionists figured they could fool the public into supporting a ban that, as history has shown, has been essentially symbolic. Sixteen years ago, Josh Sugarman with the Violence Policy Center put the campaign in its proper perspective, admitting, "The weapons' menacing looks coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semiautomatic assault weapons -- anything that looks like a machine gun...
