Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one step closer to beginning her new role as congresswoman. And she’s letting followers know that despite her political clout, she won’t forget where she came from. The 29-year-old took to social media on Thursday to celebrate a new office plaque that includes her soon-to-be official title of representative. However, not everyone was ready to celebrate the moment with the representative-elect and her reference to J.Lo. “Don’t be fooled by the plaques that we got, I’m still/I’m still Alex from the Bronx,” Ocasio-Cortez riffed on J.Lo’s lyrics from her song “Jenny From the Block.” But as for...

‘‘Liberal’’ has long been a dirty word to the American political right. It may be shortened, in the parlance of the Limbaugh Belt, to ‘‘libs,’’ or expanded to the offensive portmanteau ‘‘libtards.’’ But its target is always clear. For the people who use these epithets, liberals are, basically, everyone who leans to the left: big-spending Democrats with their unisex bathrooms and elaborate coffee. This is still how polls classify people, placing them on a neat spectrum from ‘‘extremely conservative’’ to ‘‘extremely liberal.’’ Over the last few years, though — and especially 2016 — there has been a surge of the...

"The foundation of every state is the education of its youth."(Diogenes, Greek Philosopher, 412 323 BC) "All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth." (Aristotle, Greek Philosopher, 384 322 BC) "What is being taught in the classroom today to the children will determine the course of the nation 25 years from now."(Lincoln) I'm betting this MORON came out of the government schools! I'm also betting that this nation is closer to the drain than at any time in my lifetime. "YOU'RE FIRED!" Thus sayeth...

The National Security Agency, the secretive federal department under fire for spying on U.S. citizens, is now accused of crushing the free-speech rights of a businessman clowning around about the NSA. LibertyManiacs.com, a company that markets “freedom products for liberty lovers,” says the NSA is using a claim of copyright infringement to stop it from selling T-shirts and other products making fun of the Big Brother agency. “Two months ago the NSA’s lawyers came after our parodies of the rogue agency and forced our host to take them down,” the company said Friday on its Facebook page. At issue is...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Upon watching footage of Hillary Clinton mocking Herman Cain in Afghan president Hamid Karzai’s presence, one could wonder: would she really want to stack her accomplishments up against Cain’s? I mean real accomplishment – not being the poster girl for nepotism and cultural affirmative action. But before outlining the distinguished career of the esteemed erstwhile Mizz Rodham, let’s review what was said to Mr. Karzai (another individual, incidentally, who owes his position to an American president).

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration's repeated low estimates of the BP oil spill undermined public confidence in the government's entire cleanup effort, leaders of a White House-appointed commission declared at an investigatory hearing yesterday. One likened the mistakes to Custer's disastrous decisions at Little Big Horn. Federal officials botched the government's response, a local official and government and university scientists contended as the commission focused on the questions of who was in charge and how much oil spewed out of the well. Eventually, U.S. officials said the spill was about 60times bigger than originally estimated. Instead of 42,000 gallons a...
