Any mother who has had to bury her child — one of the most devastating and enduring tragedies of motherhood — can take heart on Mother’s Day. You are not alone. The mother who was the very inspiration for the holiday, Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis, lost seven of her 11 children during the mid-1800s in rural Virginia. The dedication to honoring and supporting mothers displayed by Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis inspired her daughter Anna Jarvis, who never married or had children, to lobby for a holiday to honor “the best mother who ever lived — your mother.” After a few...

Mothers know a simple truth – one Winston Churchill, by chance, put into words: “Kites fly highest against the wind, not with it.” In other words, teaching values is harder than letting go; working to preserve America, keeping values high, requires persistence. As a mother, let me explain why Trump’s reelection is essential – for those who care about America’s past and future, Bill of Rights, and giving our kids the chance to strive, fail, start again, and succeed. We know life is not a straight line but stops and starts. We needed the freedom to explore, live, learn, and...

'After adjustment for demographic and socioeconomic factors, the group most likely to attend selective colleges were students in male breadwinner-female homemaker families.'Teens whose mothers worked part-time or not outside the home were significantly more likely to be admitted to and attend a highly selective college or university than teens whose mothers worked full time, finds a study out today from the Institute for Family Studies. The study controlled for external factors including family income, parental education, the child’s sex, race, and family composition.“Students are more likely to be accepted by and attend highly competitive colleges when their mothers are at...

Revolutions tend to devour their own, but rarely has this happened as swiftly, publicly, and predictably as it did with Portland’s overpraised “Wall of Moms.” The brainchild of a suburban Mexican-American woman named Beverly Barnum, the group was loosely organized among other moms on Facebook who were incensed that President Trump had dispatched federal officers to Portland to protect the federal courthouse that had become the main target of three-months-long protests in the city. Wearing yellow T-shirts and linking arms, the Moms created a “wall” between federal officers and Black Lives Matter protestors in July, chanting “Feds stay clear. Moms...

Donald Trump's federal cops used batons and tear gas to fight off Portland's moms last night as protests entered day 55 in the city amid a growing backlash against the president's troops. Armed with assault rifles, federal cops pushed back against the helmet-wearing 'Wall of Moms' who were protesting their presence in the city and acting as human shields for Black Lives Matter protesters. Footage showed the cops dispersing protesters with their bare hands and shoving some of the women in the chest while using tear gas to break up the crowds on Tuesday night.

As a part of President Trump’s executive order allowing federal officers to patrol cities in the wake of protesting, Portland has been consumed with unrest and violent government overreach. Protesters have been tear-gassed, assaulted, shot, and most recently it was reported that they were being removed from the streets in unmarked vehicles. It seems area moms have had enough and decided to step in to help protect the protesters. The protests began in the city in the days following the murder of George Floyd and, though growing smaller, have not stopped in the past 50 days. And though these demonstrations...

Facebook has banned the group 500 Moms Strong, an organization opposed to Drag Queen Story Hours — events where men dress as women and read stories to small children at local libraries. This was the third time the group has been shuttered by the platform. 500 Moms Strong was started in 2019 by Anna Bohach of Spokane, Washington to combat the political agenda of Drag Queen Story Hour, arguing that the practice creates a degrading caricature of women and sexualizes children. Facebook removed the group earlier this week, citing a violation of their "community standards" and arguing that it is...

I’ve done a lot of Form 990 analysis on this blog over the years, but a change to the tax requirements for non-profits gives us some more insight. Previously, the IRS did not make the Schedule B public, which for most non-profits lists any donor over $5,000, but for 501(c)(3)s lists any donor that goes over 2% of funds raised. Recently the rule was changed so that non-profits could submit their Schedule B without identifying information. This provides some transparency but without allowing the Twitter mobs to target big donors. So Everytown raised a record 67 million dollars in 2018,...

The mother of an 8-year-old boy who was found hanging in a Pennsylvania basement last month alongside his 4-year-old sister told a 911 dispatcher he had been bullied and "had made threats of doing this but didn't want to go alone." The dispatcher further quoted the mother as saying that sadly the boy, Connor Snyder, “may be the aggressor,” Fox 10 Philadelphia reported Thursday. Lisa Snyder, 36, called 911 after reporting finding Connor and her daughter Brinley hanging from the basement rafters of their home in Albany Township with a dog leash on Sept. 23. Connor and his sister died...

Ask any conservative who spends great amounts of time online and they’ll tell you: Trump moms are one of the mightiest forces in the culture war. If ‘Republicans pounce,’ the fallback media phrase for right-wing internet reaction, then Trump moms pull over the minivan to swarm and invade, thumbs a-blazing. If you’re coming for the president or ever wronged one of their favorite personalities, they’ve got you on a list and they’re not forgetting....[snip] one thing I really like about Trumpers. We’re a population saturated with orphans. We’ve been fired from our jobs, abandoned by our friends, ejected from polite...

Missouri lawmakers listened Tuesday as a woman held her infant son and told them not to ban late-term abortions. She was one of several abortion activists and pro-life advocates who testified about a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks during a Missouri House hearing, the Columbia Missourian reports. The legislation, state House Bill 1266, sponsored by state Rep. Donna Lichtenegger, R-Jackson, would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks when unborn babies are capable of feeling intense pain. “If a nervous system is fully functional, it feels pain, so that’s why we are wanting to not have an abortion after 20...

This week marks the first full year of Donald Trump’s presidency. While the media would have you believe he is the worst president in history and his policies are literally destroying the world, the fact is, like him or not, the American people have had some really big wins this first year—and the biggest winners are moms! For those of us who determined it a complete waste of time to try and navigate through the sea of nonsense to find the real news, I, as a mom, thought it prudent to give a true accounting of Trump’s first year—and why...

I love my parents more than I can explain, just as you likely do yours. You can’t quantify that love, or put it in words, but anyone with good parents understands without needing it explained. It’s universally understood by anyone lucky enough to have great parents. My parents met when they were still in high school. They went to the same school in the same town I and my five siblings all graduated from. My mom and her friend were hitchhiking (it was the late 50s and you could still do that), and my dad picked them up. They knew...

NFL mothers have sent an open letter to President Trump, defending their sons and pleading for him to “put a stop to the divisive language” he’s been using against them. “[We] believe in promoting a positive image of professional football players as athletes and young men of character,” reads the letter, which was sent by the Professional Football Players Mothers Association and obtained by BuzzFeed News. “It saddens the organization to know that President Donald Trump would make our sons — as well as their mothers — the target of inflammatory, offensive comments that are intended to promote anger and...

Vladimir Sanchez spent more than four years in prison for a slew of insurance-fraud charges. He was released on Thursday, but his freedom was short-lived. Sanchez, 45, is back behind bars after his ride home ended with a police chase, a shooting and a school lockdown at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Little Havana. Miami police said it all started on Thursday when Sanchez’s 16-year-old son, Alexander, stole his mother’s 2013 Nissan Altima to pick his father up from jail. The next day, police spotted the car on Northwest 27th Avenue and pulled it over.

The Greesnboro, North Carolina-based chain issued a statement saying it wants to "ensure a welcoming environment where our customers and employees feel safe, and treat one another with kindness and respect while shopping and working," . . The grocer said it had engaged in discussions about the policy with a group of activists called Moms Demand Action, who gathered nearly 4,000 signatures across North Carolina to support the "gun sense policy." . . Moms Demand Action has also asked Matthews-based Harris Teeter to implement gun bans in its stores. It delivered petitions to Harris Teeter last year. The activist group...

The presence of a gun rights group at the Texas State Capitol during President Obama’s visit to the SxSW festival elicited members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense to call for gun violence against the group. Among other incitements to violence, “Just shoot them all,” and “Shoot the a**bags,” they said. Moms Demand Action members posted, “Do[n]’t arrest them just shoot them, these people are crazy,” “Time to use an assault weapon on this trash,” “Just shoot them all…,” and “Mow them down.” Another added, “a**hats. no one has taken your guns. you are the ones causing problems. [P]lease...

On my recent business trip to Switzerland, one story dominated the coverage on America—The Baltimore Rioting. I couldn’t understand the Swiss newscasters, but I saw the live-action coverage. A participant question during a break help me realize the impact of such coverage, “Is the treatment of blacks by the police in America getting worse?” I confided that there was a big difference between the peaceful demonstrators and the majority of those taking advantage of the situation to loot and destroy. Bad police officers exist, but the vast majority are good men and women doing a tough job as fairly as...

The girl's hand was stabbed during the fracas and she was taken for treatment to Broward Health North hospital in Deerfield Beach, Carter said. "This could have been much, much worse, because the mother of the bullied child was actually heading back to her vehicle to retrieve her firearm when we arrived on the scene," Carter said. Demps will be charged with felony possession of a firearm and aggravated battery, Carter said. The knife used in the stabbing belonged to Demps, and the other mother was also armed with a blade, according to the Sheriff's Office.
