  • VANITY - Question from ABC Affiliate Showing Troops in Bunkers Seems Fishy to Me

Has anybody questioned the alleged video from the ABC affiliate itself? What is the date certain? It seems unlikely early in the war that soldiers would be breaking into bunkers, opening barrel lids, handling bottles, etc. without the use of chemical suits. The video does not show any officers (as far as I can tell). This smells very fishy - did they get the video from CBS?

Deep thoughts from Colmes. When shown the Predator photos of trucks at al-Qaqaa that were spiriting away the munitions just a few weeks before the invasion, he said something like "If that's the case, then why didn't the Administration act on it? What incompetence!" Good thinking, Alan! The US military should have obviously ditched all it's pre-invasion plans and schedules to hurry in to one of 10,000 Iraqi munition dumps to daringly interdict the transport of 0.005% of Iraq's total munitions so that John Kerry, the New York Times, CBS (and Alan Colmes following in lock-step) wouldn't say bad things...

Is all this Democratic puff over the "missing" munitions a way for Kerry to reverse what popular consensus assumes: that an attack would help Bush? Does Kerry hope for an attack now so he can say "See, this President's incompetence has caused this butchery -- possibly with the very munitions he failed to guard in Iraq"?

Squadron cleans bomb dump, makes area safeby Senior Master Sgt. Gene LaDoucer506th Air Expeditionary Group Public Affairs 2/12/2004 - KIRKUK AIR BASE, Iraq (AFPN) -- Munitions airmen are generally proud to tell people they work in the “bomb dump,” the endearing term often used to describe a base’s munitions storage area. An exception, however, might be when the dump is, well, a dump. Upon surveying the weapons storage area upon their arrival here in November, airmen of the 355th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron munitions flight quickly saw that a dump is what they had -- an expansive area of land that had become a...

WASHINGTON – A former Army intelligence analyst says a number of Iraqi exiles have reported the deposed regime stashed small missiles, weapons and ammunition at mosques in and around Baghdad. U.S. forces have confiscated large caches of weapons in raids of Iraqi homes, but they are barred from raiding religious sites. Guerrilla fighters continue to attack troops with mortars, grenades, homemade explosives and small arms fire on a daily basis. They are tapping into a huge arsenal left behind by the former regime, one that some military officials in Iraq fear could supply fighters for several years. Iraqi exiles from...

Newsweek reports this week that although the war with Iraq has not begun, "So far the big battles are in Washington, not Baghdad." The magazine notes that "Secretary of State Colin Powell, the only combat veteran among Bush’s senior aides, is said to be determined that if U.S. troops are committed, they go in with overwhelming force. Vice President Dick Cheney (who had student and parent deferments during Vietnam) and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (a Navy pilot in the years between Korea and Vietnam) are eager to finish the job Bush’s father started when he was president." BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP)--The FBI said on Wednesday the bomb that ripped through U.N. headquarters here was made from 1,000 pounds of old munitions including one single 500 pound bomb, all of the materials from Saddam Hussein's prewar arsenal that required no ``great degree of sophistication'' to build. A key member of the U.S.-picked interim government, meanwhile, said the death toll stood at 20 but could go much higher. ``There are 20 dead and there are many who are still trapped in there,'' said Ahmad Chalabi, a member of the Governing Council and leader of the Iraqi National Congress. Chalabi insisted...

AS the conflict in Iraq unfolded this spring, the world watched in amazement at the accuracy of the latest generation of precision-guided missiles. These weapons allowed U.S. and allied air forces to operate unconstrained by the limits of daylight, and they came to “rule the night.” Now, the U.S. armed forces want to further extend this weapon capability by developing armament that will reduce collateral damage—that is, reduce destruction outside the radius of an intended target—while enhancing its destructive force on the target. To achieve this goal, explosives and composites experts at Lawrence Livermore are leading an effort under...

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the eight-vehicle convoy, which was on a resupply mission to a base near the town of Hadithah, about 120 miles north of Baghdad, U.S. Central Command said in a statement. More civilians are being injured or killed in northern Iraq now than during the war, largely due to the breakdown of law and order and the dangers of abandoned caches of Iraqi arms, a human rights group said Sunday. The New York-based group Human Rights Watch said it studied civilian injuries and deaths at five hospitals and morgues in the northern cities of Kirkuk and Mosul. Health workers reported daily weapons-related injuries, both intentional and accidental, and many of the victims were children who played with unexploded ordnance, it said. "In some ways, the peace has proved more lethal than...
